They have barbers as well as hairstylists so anyone can stop here. I wanted something with some volume and curls. my stylist was friendly and listened to what I want. She did curl my hair with a straightener at the end to get some of those curls, but I was hoping to just get some volume from the round brush itself and maybe some rollers. So not exactly what I asked for, but it still looked very nice and she did a great job. For the service I was charged $50 which I thought was very fair considering I have very long hair. The vibe in here is great and there is music playing on a lot of people talking. So if you are easily overwhelmed, this might not be the spot for you. I also needed to do something about the bushy caterpillars above my eyes, so I stopped in to New Reflections thinking that although I'd never been to this salon, Aveda salons are generally legit and a brow wax is not that difficult of a thing. I didn't want them reshaped, just cleaned up a little. I've been getting my brows waxed, on average, 4-6 times per year for the past 20 years, without incident. Nbd, right? Wrong. When I was introduced to the esthetician, my gut instinct said "run!!!". She had HORRIBLE eyebrows. But I didn't run, because I'm an idiot, and figured that maybe her brows were so jacked because it's harder to do your own than another person's or something. She asked what I wanted done, and I told her to just clean them up around the edges and trim a little where needed. She then became completely silent, as though she was concentrating hard, which made me feel more uneasy. As I felt tiny bits of wax being applied here and there, and felt hairs being plucked from spots I'd never felt hairs be plucked from before, my feeling of unease began to grow stronger. I began to suspect, in horror, that this person had no idea what the eff they are doing. When she held up the mirror to my face, my suspicions were confirmed: the ends of my eyebrows were totally gone, there were patches of hair missing from each brow, and they were two completely different shapes. One of them looked like a deformed sperm. My full, beautiful brows had been reduced to what I refer to as "meth brows." I started to cry. She asked what was wrong, and I said, "um, my brows are gone...they're like, gone. They are supposed to extend to here, and you took the ends completely off." She tried to say that those hairs weren't actually part of my eyebrows, but were just "stray hairs." I was then whisked up front to speak with the manager, as I tried to pull myself together and not make a huge scene. The manager was very nice, and said of course I would not be charged for the visit. She offered to have another esthetician show me how to fill my brows in with pencil, but I declined. I KNOW how to fill them in, but drawing them on, where there is no hair at all? Like a chola? That is NOT THE LOOK. Now whenever I look in the mirror, I just feel pissed. I wonder if the ends of my brows, and the bare patches throughout, will ever grow back. Waxing damages the hair follicle, so there's definitely the possibility that they won't. And that makes me sad all day.

I scheduled with Hasaan. Showed him two videos and a photo, he only asked me "you want to keep it full in the back?" I said yes, because it's like that in the photos. I felt like he barely looked but I didn't question because sometimes people are just that good, they already know what's up by a glance. He asked me if I liked the perm, I talk about how I grew my hair out for a year and how I didn't want to keep getting fades because it was too much maintenance to go every 1-2 weeks. Other than that he doesn't talk to me which is fine because I only really want to be communicated with about my hair and haircut. Basically no consultation about my hair and goals, especially as a new client. He busted out the clippers and before I could protest all my hair is gone. He asks if the length is good afterwards, all I can say is yes? What am I supposed to say, hey can you glue my hair back on my head? I obviously didn't want it any shorter. Look, I don't tell people what to do in their own profession as I am not a hairstylist but it really should've just been some scissor work. Even with the longest guard it would've still been shorter than what I had asked for. I was just asking for layers and a trim - if that was not communicated through the photo and videos I shared then why wasn't I asked. The back isn't even "full" like he confirmed with me, it seems like he just wanted me in and out and gave me a generic short haircut I didn't ask for. It's uneven, I have long stray hairs. My hair is sticking out because he cut it short, which I didn't ask for, and when it's short it sticks out. I know my hair, that's why I didn't want it. Paid $45 for the haircut (plus tip because I'm not a jerk and I know people need to live). Could've gotten this haircut somewhere else for less. I was and still am irritated as hell because I just don't understand how it went from what I wanted to what I got. He didn't even try. And I effectively lost time spent growing my hair out and money I spent on the perm that he just cut off. This was by hair the most messed up haircut.
