I waited twenty minutes when I had an appointment. You can barely even tell my hair was highlighted and the kicker was that it was over $300 for a haircut (straight across that took about two minutes) and highlights you can't tell we're done. It somehow took hours and I was left to sit in the chair by myself. I got a full foilayge from Meagan and am the type of person who goes to a salon once a year. I never went to beauty school but I know lightening your hair can really kill it. I have naturally dark asian hair with a previous grown out bayalage that has grown brassy. The best about this salon is their hair strand test and the stylists' ability to read hair. Before doing the whole thing they tested a strand and then examined if my hair could handle it. I have never had this experience before and think every salon should do this! It's not right to pay $$$ and gamble the results so I thank them for offering that. Megan took her time and was not rushed. She double checked with other stylists what she was mixing. She blended my roots well with a teasing method. She was very personable and made sure I was comfortable throughout the long process. This gal is on her way towards making more magic happen. I always ask to see a photo before they curls because I've seen salons do lazy job blending and hide it in the result photos by curling it. She did a fantastic job. I opted in for the Olaplex 1 and 2 for $40 because I wanted my hair to look very lush and soft. Tip: The warm lighting in the salon may make your hair look brassy when it is not. The more realistic lighting is near the window which Meagan took the photos for me to see. I am very pleased with the level of honesty. These ladies are amazing! I have been coming here since I moved to Oak Harbor. They almost always have availability the day of or the next day. I made the mistake of going to another salon for a "trim" and ended with one of the worst cuts of my life and most of my hair chopped off. Luckily the ladies here were able to fix me up. Wow! This is a long one people so bare with me but I promise you might think twice before going here after reading this. I'm not one to complain. Every review I have ever written has been about a great experience with a company. Don't get me wrong, I've had my fair share of not so great experiences but I've never taken to writing a bad review. I'm in complete shock at your response to my husband's review Jessica (part owner). Clearly lying is a pattern for you and anyone who takes the time to read your response to other bad reviews left will see that you have lied before, you're lying now and I'm certain you will again with future bad reviews. God forbid you guys take fault for any mistakes made. Every response you have is defensive and quite clearly a lie. Not once do you guys take fault and say "you know what, you are right we are so sorry let us fix this for you." NOT ONCE!! Let me just begin in the oder your lies appear in your response to my husband's review. You state your before and after photos are not the best because "she would not let us take photos"  Lie number 1,  I never said they could not take photos and in fact she did take a photo and didn't even show me the picture because she said she couldn't get the lighting right on it but in reality I'm sure its because she saw in that photo that I ALLOWED her to take, that what I was unhappy about was clearly evident in the photo. Moving on yo lie number 2. I never asked for ashy blonde with black. I gave her a photo of a picture and I wanted EXACTLY that photo. I didn't go to school for hair, this is not my profession as it is theirs and I don't know the correct verbiage and words to say on what colors I want but I did go in with a photo and say I wanted EXACTLY THIS!!!!!! Only thing I wanted different was for the frame around my face where my gray hairs grow to be lighter so my gray will blend well. The only reason I wanted my hair done was so my gray would blend well when it grows. My entire frame of my face was black and even as she was applying the black in my gray spot I stopped her and said "whoa we are doing light there remember?" She said "yes I will get there." I said "ok, I'll let you do your thing". Because you know she's the professional right!?!?! Never went back and attempted to make my frame light like I had asked from the very beginning. (Remember, the only reason I wanted my hair done). Moving on to lie number 3. I was quoted $370 for my hair plus any overages. The stylist asked if I wanted to keep my roots natural or if I wanted to do the black like the photo. I asked what the price difference was and it was only a $40 difference so I said yes let's go for the black, it's not my credit card anyway (making a joke, not bragging, but that's a whole other lie in itself) and again said EXACTLY like this photo!!! She said ok "let's do it". Obviously I know that my hair would not be exactly like the photo but if this was something that could not have been accomplished the "professional" should have mentioned that it won't look like this, it might come out looking more like this, instead of saying "yeah lets go for it". My end product was no where close to the picture and again my frame was black. I expressed my dissatisfaction that night and she attempted to fix it that night and still the end result was nowhere close to what I wanted. So we made an appointment for me to go in the following Tuesday so she could add a toner to hopefully get the PURPLE out of my hair. When I went to the counter to pay it was $374 I left a $50 tip and was NOT aware of any $99 discount that I supposedly was given. At this point I was not to upset because I was hopeful that it could be fixed. Moving on to lie number 4. I called Monday and my exact words were " hi, is there by chance a manager or owner I can speak with?" I did NOT demand to speak with them. Lie number 5 people. She asked if I could come in that day(Monday) so she can look at it before coming in to get a toner done on Tuesday. I went in and they decided the toner was not the way to go about fixing my hair (can only imagine what it would look like had I not called Monday and just went in for a toner on Tuesday) that they wanted to add more blonde throughout the bottom (because remember that picture of EXACTLY what I wanted had waaayyy more blonde then the almost all black/purple hair I ended up with) we all agreed on what needed to be done to fix this. Everything still totally fine and cool. Im not to upset just want what I asked for and still pretty hopeful they can fix it. Why would I be rude to someone who is going to be working on my hair not to mention that's just not me.... Anyway, lie number 6. I never changed the color of the hair I asked for, i can't change the photo and AGAIN WANTED EXACTLY THE PHOTO(yes as close to as possible) also I didn't then decide I wanted to add more light around my frame because hello.... only reason i went in the first place!!!! I filed a complaint with the BBB -Better Business Bureau- on August 28th to complain about how terribly I was treated as a customer & to demand a full refund for 2 disastrous visits. The BBB sent my complaint to this business the same day. As of today neither Jessica or Wendi, the owners, have replied. But I did get credited back to my account the first of the 2 refunds I requested. I received a $60. refund for 1 toner. Yes you read that right $60.00 for 1 toner. On August 28th I left a message for Jessica or Wendi to call me ( which they ignored) & also to request a full refund for the first visit where if Megan had done what I asked for, this would not be happening. Two days before my sons wedding, another salon reached out to me to help fix my hair. They are aware of Allure's reputation & graciously offered to help me. Reminder: We're on a Island & word gets They don't need my 5 star review but that's the least I can do. Today, due to too much processing from this nightmare, I decided to cut my long hair. It was fried and I'm upset. This salon has caused me not only over $200.00 but also emotional distress. Ladies if you need help to settle a complaint, please contact bbb.org. You have power. Use it. Don't let anyone treat you like a 2nd class citizen. More updates to come. As of today, Friday September 6th, neither Jessica nor Wendi have replied to the Better Business Bureau. First of all -- I loved Carissa. Making small talk at hair salons isn't my favorite thing in the world and she didn't talk much at all which is actually SUPER nice for me haha. I talked to her about what I wanted and she did it perfectly, the color isn't exactly what I wanted, it's even better!! The only reason I'm giving four stars is because for just a cut and color my total came out to 300 dollars after the tip -- that's outrageous to me. I've been to other places in the area that I've gotten almost the same treatment and paid half as much for the same results. I like how there are so many time slots available since the majority of the time I choose to Palmer myself at the last minute. But like any place that has multiple different staff members, the style of each person can vary. The first time I went here, I saw Bobbi (I think). I got a wash/cut/style for my husband's Xmas party. She made my hair look on point! She wasn't available the next time I wanted to treat myself so I tired another lady (don't remember her name) for a wash/deep condition/cut. I went all out and decided to cut off a good 6-8 inches of hair length. The lady listened to what I wanted and was attentive to my needs. My hair is pretty curly and she shaped the front of my hair around my face but left the back flat. So when I washed my hair out the next day the shape was a bit awkward for my liking. I think next time I'll request someone who's more knowledgeable about cutting curly hair. I got a pedicure here as well. It was ok. Not the best but not horrible. I got a little jealous that the lady next to me who was getting a pedicure had a much longer massage than me even though we started at the same time LOL! Also, the lovely lady who was doing my pedicure had really long nails which made me feel awkward. And I wasn't familiar with the brands of nail stuff she was using, so my nails ended up being very brittle and soft when the nail polish came off. read more

This was my second time going to Carissa and to this salon. On Friday I came in for a balayage/cut. Before she started I wanted to make sure we were on the same page and reiterated how I'd like to continue the bleaching process to an ash blonde/asked her questions about what I didn't like/how to correct the "brassy" blonde my hair had turned into and that if she feels like I'd get a better effect with something more than a balayage then I'd totally be open because she's the expert. She told me she'd do more highlights vs low lights then the previous time and then I also told her that the previous balayage she had done (after 2 months of growth) I'd like to move it up towards my scalp a little more. I then asked her the cost for this and she stated it would be $180-$200 (I could not recall the exact at that moment). After she blow dried my hair I realized there were areas that weren't blended/brassy which I wasn't expecting. She immediately said she was looking at the same thing and agreed it didn't look right; Told me that she could fix it. Unfortunately I was pressed for time and couldn't do it that day but she told me I could come back to have it taken care of. I was perfectly fine with that. Jessica the owner checked me out - she told me the price was $232 which I was a little surprised by from the original quote but it was due to the price of the haircut; understood - with my 20% discount it brought it down to $186. I paid leaving her my regular tip and then asked about setting up the next appt. I asked if the next appt would be covered due to my concerns and I was told it would be an extra $45 to have it "blended." Jessica told me that with a foliage that extra service was needed. At that point I was taken back/confused because even though I had told Carissa to do what she felt would look best - we also discussed a certain price. I was confused as to why she wouldn't have told me this from the beginning if that was also needed? I voiced my concerns once again that I wasn't satisfied paying the extra amount for something I wasn't happy with nor did I know about and there was absolutely no regard to any of it. I am not one to complain about hair. I understand things can be a process. My concern was the application - one side of my hair was lighter than the other and it just didn't look right. I wasn't asking for a refund just for it to look decent enough for a very special event coming up. This is why the initial consult is so important to discuss what your expectation is/outcome will be and what the price will be to get there. I was really displeased at not only my hair but how disregarded as a customer I felt. As a business, customer satisfaction is everything and I truly feel the ball was dropped. read more

I went in on October 15 to have my hair and cut for my son's wedding. She didn't listen to what I said about layers and part of the time cit my hair with it parted wrong. I thought I'd give it a try since I had only a few days before leaving for the wedding. I fought with my hair to get the natural curl to look good. When I got home I called Allure. I don't know who answered the phone. I explained that I wasn't happy with my cut. She said Wendy would want me to be happy and she made an appointment within a couple days. This salon is amazing! Such a breath of fresh air. Super professional and top of the line stylists. Patty Chambers is a miracle worker with hair. She undid years of damage and gave me a look that was truly out of this world. Patty is master in her field and I can't believe she took me last minute on a Saturday. Also, I was so over the moon when I first brought in my son to Christina, I showed her a few pictures and this was truly the first time I've been so happy with my sons hair. I was so excited to get my hair colored professionally for the first time so I did quite a bit of research and finally settled on giving Allure a shot. I have dark brown hair (with some grey mixed in) and when I made my appointment I let them know that I wanted a chocolate brown balayage with subtle hints of lighter brown. I was also very specific about not wanting any red/or blonde. When I got to the salon I also showed the lady several pictures of what I wanted. The result was horrible. My hair was brown/red at the top and orange/blonde at the bottom. I quickly called back the next day and asked to talk to one of the two managers/master colorists to see if they were willing to fix it. I was hoping one of the two managers would be willing to fix my hair since the other girl messed up so much but they scheduled me with her again anyways. They got me an appointment right away. I will say that the staff is very very friendly and accommodating. When I went in to get my hair fixed the lady took some toner and let it sit in my hair for a few minutes, then washed it out and styled my hair. When you get your hair colored you get a free cut with it and she did wonderful with that. She made sure to ask if I was happy with it, and from what I could tell it looked a lot better. I said thank you and went on my way. Fast forward to a few days later and whatever toner she put in my hair was completely washed out and I was right back to having brown/red/orange/blonde hair. So unhappy. I spent what I feel like it a very large amount of money to make sure I got a quality outcome, and it turned out to be absolutely horrible....to the point where it's embarrassing. Shouldn't you be proud to show off your awesome new look after spending $120 plus a very generous tip?!?!   If all your looking for is a hair cut this place will do the trick, but if your wanting color I would NOT recommend it. read more

Well for starters I called ahead of time being new to the area asking if they knew how to do a proper undercut, the response I got was "yes, I do them all them time" I went in for my appointment which happened 20 min after scheduled, and the girl was not very personable (I think her name was cierra she had dreads) anyhow I showed her the photo of the undercut I wanted and was specific on the phone that I needed someone who could do it right because of bad experiences with hairdressers in the past, well...she first off didn't have a razor and had to borrow from a co worker that wasn't there, then once she was finished and showed another girl stated that she'd never really done one before. The lines are horrific and the area is BURNING even after Neosporin because she did not know how to use a razor. When she finished the undercut the put my hair in a bun and said she was finished, I did not pay $40 to shave an 18th of my head...so I asked her to trim the ends as I stated on the phone call. She seemed in a hurry and when she was digging into my head who's the shaver as I was pushing away at times, she just said "stay still you have A cowlick" luckily my hair grows fast. I would have never left a review if I did not call prior (being picky) to make sure they had the experience to do what I was asking, I just feel like I was lied to so she could make money. Pretty dissatisfying being this salon has good reviews. Attached are the photos of what I had asked for (and had up for viewing the entire time) vs what I got. Went to Allure for lashes, my stylist Sydney did a good job. However... the first time they had a special and I was charged a special rate, the first fill 3 weeks later I had no problems. I was charged less than I thought. I even asked to be sure that I was paying the correct amount. my next three week fill I was charged 3x what I had paid for my last fill. Both times my lashes had minimal loss. Sydney even commented on how good they looked. When I got to the register to pay they told me that they had been mischarging and charged me 3x times the amount I paid before. I had someone ask what fills were and they were told 3 weeks $60, I still paid $15 more. It's unfortunate, I won't go back nor would I recommend. I feel like they charged me more to make up past appointments. I wouldn't have had a problem paying more if I had been made aware before. I have had two people I know that go there and neither have ever paid what I did for three week fill. Prices need to be clear, consistent. I gave them 2 stars because Sydney was very nice & did a good job otherwise they would get 1 Star. read more

Goodness knows Allure is the best a civilian can get in Oak Harbor! My hair was saved from an awful haircut done by a friend by one of the nicest women you'll ever meet. My nails were absolutely ABUSED by another establishment, and Patty took the time to save them from being damaged and broken. Now my nails grow long and strong! I would have to bring my daughter with me while my husband was deployed, and she was very patient with me having to wrangle a small toddler during my manicure. I walk out with nice nails or nice hair (whichever I get done that day) every time I leave the salon. Isn't that all that matters? read more

Update on my previous review: After my last visit I received a voicemail from Jessica, the owner of Allure. She was very apologetic and concerned about my less than stellar experience and offered a complete redo of my package in attempt to change my mind. The repeat definitely changed my mind. Facial: I had the pleasure of having Wendi as my aesthetician this time around. Right from the get go it was a complete 180 from my previous experience. She greeted me warmly and walked me back to the room. She had me put on a different top in order to give a proper facial. She had music going and didn't disrupt the ambiance filling the awkward silence with chatter like before. She did a fabulous job, I can't say enough good things about it. She killed it with the scalp massaging as well. I was able relax and bliss out for the hour long service AND my skin feels/looks great. Side note: every single time I get a facial I always have mask left under my nose where they miss washing it off because they can't see it from above your head, it happens with everyone. This is the first time in many many many facials I have not been left with this. Extra points. Massage: I was booked with Deborah (again) who recognized me and remembered some key points regarding my preferences during my last visit, which was impressive. I don't know if she upped her game, or if I was just so relaxed from my facial this time but the massage was so good. She once again listened and delivered exceptional service. I left in a daze of relaxation which is what I am always looking for when I book a 2 hour service of a massage and facial combo. I grabbed both of their cards on my way out as I will be making future appointments with both of them. After I got home I was upset because my hair looked horrible, so called back, I made an appointment with Jess, who is one of the owners. She did a fantastic job fixing my hair, but I was charged 245 dollars again! I did not feel it was fair at all. I doubt anymore can afford 490 dollars to get their hair don! , For one, they should tell their clients if they are being booked with a student. If the student messes up, the owner should make the corrections at no charge. I will never go there again. I would caution clients to make sure they ask if they are being booked with a student! The prices are outrageous and the service is terrible! I would rather drive off of the island than go to this salon. read more
