Maybe it's a supply chain issue. In my experience, locally owned Ace Hardware stores are a cut above most hardware stores with surprisingly well stocked and upscale home decor, garden and seasonal items. Not the White Salmon location. If you need the basics, but nothing more, this store is convenient. Large parking lot. Helpful staff.

While most Ace Hardware stores are similar, they are independently owned and each has their local flavor. While stopping here to have a window screen replaced (Tom is the best and replaces in real time or by the next day) I found so many other items I didn't know I needed! Haha. In the garden section I found whimsical yard art and handmade aprons, one for me with bright cherry sunflowers; and a classy black and white version for a friend. Never to early to start Christmas shopping! The store has supplies for electrical, plumbing and carpentry work. Also small kitchen appliances, gadgets and cookware. Large selection of outdoor grills and BBQs. Garden supplies, soil, perennials and annuals. Shoveld, brooms, shears and other garden tools. They even have a Hallmark section with gifts and go cards. Plus locally made cards with the most gorgeous photographs of birds, wildlife, flowers and scenery from the Gorge. Yep, had to buy a few! While I have shopped at many Ace Hardware stores and have a loyalty number, for some reason it wasn't showing up. Even though the store was busy, the cashier helped me get it resolved. Came in to get a screen repaired, left with gifts & greeting cards, a shovel, broom, apron, flashlight and yes, the newly repairEd window screen!

The time before this I rented a pressure washer that came with no tips. I'm done letting this place inconvenience me at an hourly rate. I hope they burn down

You can get your lumber supplies, hardware, propane, little baby chicks, and even update your wardrobe with the latest Toppenish High gear. The staff and owners are friendly, helpful, and are involved in the community. It's a hub of activity and a Toppenish landmark.

While I'm often there for the typical hardware items for home projects, I can't visit the store without checking out the home area where they often have really nice decor like dish towels, candles and kitchen gadgets. The garden area is also a must visit for whimsical yard art, glass hummingbirds and healthy indoor plants. Parking lot is huge! I love everything about this store.

Even though we stopped in for something specific, I couldn't help wander through the garden section. It's mid July and they were still well stocked with beautiful perrenials and colorful annuals. Great prices in pots and vessel; I picked up a few to bring back home even though there are many Home Depot's in Portland. There were several other items that caught my attention - shelving for the garage, cleaning supplies, outdoor lighting - but I will wait to purchase locally as the car is already quite full. Service was friendly. When one of the pots didn't have a price, a staff member ran back to the garden department to find a like item. Tons of parking and located right off the first exit in The Dalles when heading East, it was a quick and gorgeous drive from Hood River.

Typically I drive from Mosier to Home Depot but not anymore! Tum-A-Lum has everything I need and I don't have to walk across a massive store to pick up 2 or 3 items. Seeking an Allen wrench, wallboard joint compound and a fine grain sandpaper wedge to repair old nail holes in my wall, a worker noticed me searching the aisles and immediately offered help. Within minutes I had what I came in for and then spent another 10 minutes walking around to check out the inventory. Need a new kitchen faucet? Paint supplies? Hardware for doors, picture hanging, dressers? Cabinets and tiles to remodel a bathroom or kitchen? Garden and yard tools and BBQs? Lighting, plumbing and electrical supplies? Even plants, vegetables, soil, seeds and ceramic pots of your garden in their small garden area out front.. They have have a little of everything and a lot of some things! And of course lumber. I've passed by so many times while visiting Hood River, but always assumed it was a lumber supply store for construction, not open to retail. And never realized they were also a hardware store. Located right off exit 65 on I-84 it's super convenient and they have a large parking lot. Yum-A-Lum is now my go-to place for all of my fix-it needs!
