For nearly 40 years, I have had a very stressful job, which I manage through exercise, meditation, and therapeutic massage. Complaining to a friend about the inadequacy of those who billed themselves as massage professionals, she recommended me to and swore by "A Sanctuary for Healing." Acting upon her advise, I booked a 60 minute session. Welcoming me into her private Santa Monica studio, my 1st impression was how sweet, warm, & considerate was (and is) her demeanor. She instantly put me at ease, overcoming my anxiety at being in close quarters with a stranger. And, then something amazing took place because I learned what makes Denise so exceptional and frankly extraordinary is her mastery of Swedish/Esalen massage. She concludes the session with a focus on your head and scalp in the most amazing way - that alone is worth the price of admission. Though I try with all my might, I simply cannot express in words where I go when she uses her skills on me. Through her massage I am transported to a different universe; one I neither would nor could ever inhabit without her. All is peace and serenity and warmth. Pros: clean, friendly…read more Cons: did not perform the service I paid for. I scheduled a deep tissue massage and there was nothing deep about it. At the beginning she did not ask what type of pressure I liked and she did not ask during the massage if the pressure was ok, or if I wanted more. I spoke up and requested more but she did not increase the pressure at all. At the end of the massage she did not ask how I felt. This made me feel like she didn't care about what kind of massage I liked. She was going to do what ever she wanted. She did explain at the end that my muscles responded with tension when she tried to squeeze them so she would've had to go really deep in order to relax them. I have 3 issues with that: 1) duh that's why I requested a deep tissue massage. I've had bruises from massages, albeit weird I like it that hard. 2) every therapist is different, but this technique is not the norm and it should've been explained at the beginning. 3) because this is not the norm, trust needs to built with the client so that they are open to something new. Unfortunately, I will never go back because I believe she will just do what she wants and not what I want or pay for. If she felt like more pressure would've caused damage she could stop the massage. Instead we both wasted an hour and a half of our time.

Her facilities provide privacy and comfort when receiving a therapy session as well as a full bathroom and lobby area. There is also a rest area for other guests and she provides wireless internet as well. Nothing but comfort when you enter this establishment. I first came in with two slipped discs in my neck and had little to absolutely no mobility. within three months of weekly treatments I was able to wrestle again and I was able to have complete range of motion in my neck. After my National tournament in 2009 I separated my shoulder and shoulder blade and within a couple of months, Heather was able to fix me so I could go back on the mat. She is amazing and pin points the problem areas and works with me to restore and fix them. It's not always pleasant but the results are incredible. I have had doctors tell me that i'm finished or I will not be able to compete anymore. As soon as I go to Heather, BAM! I am fixed, I am better, and I am ready to step on the mat again thanks to Heather and her healing hands and warm personality! Heather herself is a beautiful and caring individual when she works with you. She not only pin points what may be wrong with your body but also provides an explanation to what and how your body is and then explains what she is going to do to better help you.
