Got an exam for new glasses November 2024. Suffered with the new glasses for months and went to an ophmalagist. My only eye problem was a prescription that was far too strong. Went back to Aloah and was told nothing they would do after 60 days. If your glass feel wrong, go back immediately. Hope you don't get the wrong prescription. read more

Very disappointed! This company does NOT stand behind its products! Beware of buying anything here!! They are selling defective merchandise! I had purchased some sunglasses from here in October and already the frame was peeling all over and the eye socket area even cracked! Could have been dangerous if it had cracked on my face, at the eye! I had been lured in to get these glasses with their summer promotion on sunglasses and they won't replace the frame or offer me at least a rebate on what I spent so I can get another frame! I was told that the manufacturer, who they no longer do business with since their glasses are subpar, sent out the glasses via mail two (2) weeks ago, and alas - no tracking (so we know that's bogus) and they don't know what happened to that shipment. Oh - and that's the last same frame that I had, so no more same replacements! Plus, Aloha Eye says they are NOT responsible, since they no longer do business with them anyways, so sorry. I explained that as their company promoted and sold it, covered by my vision insurance (LA Teachers Union Insurance), through indemnity/ contract law, they are responsible and should remedy the situation. But no! So folks beware! If there is another sunglass summer promotion - it will probably be another cheap frame that Aloha won't stand behind or take care of!!!! LOVE this eye clinic! Dr. Guild was able to fit me in in about 2-3 weeks. I needed to renew my contacts Rx, nothing complicated. If you're a contacts/glasses wearer, then you know the panic when you're on your last pair of contacts and your script is expired! This is a great little office. The receptionist, optometry technician, and Dr. were all professional, timely, friendly, and overall amazing. I was afraid what a CASH pay appointment would cost me, but to my surprise the entire visit cost me $158! Dr. Guild saw my eye insurance doesn't work in Hawaii and he gave me a huge discount. Was here in Kihei for my son's wedding. Day 2 I went to put in my contacts and realized I had left them at home. I was so bummed thinking I was going to have to rock my prescription glasses and cut out snorkeling and sunglasses. Was able to get my Optometrist at home to send my prescription and Aloha Eye Clinic was able to set me up with some to get me through my trip. Big time save thanks to them. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and the Dr even recommended switching my normal contacts to the brand they use since they have UV protection. I've never felt so compelled to leave a review. Normally I brush it off as they are having a bad day and give them a benefit of the doubt but this cannot go unexpressed. Firstly, when I called to make the appointment the receptionist was so rude I had to ask if I had said something wrong. Granted I called late in the day, I know how that is, but I apologized and tried to make the call as prompt as possible. Fast forward to the appointment, Dr Carp was rude and a complete waste of my day. I took off work and lost money for him to tell me I have allergies?! After three doctors told me specifically to go to him because my condition can cause blindness and other complications. Not only did he judge my name "and your name is..what?" It clearly says on the paper OLD MAN. He spent barely two minutes with me, looked into my eyes briefly, gave me a wack eye drop sample, and sent me on my way. Even after politely I expressed to him my frustrations and asked for him to take more time to discuss the possible issues. As someone who works in the customer service industry, I know we rely on reviews to get business but it's also important as professionals to treat your patients with respect and care. It's so difficult to find good health care on island and he's a poor excuse for a doctor. Hopefully this review will help other people on island save time and not bother going here. The ophthalmologist seemed to be very thorough and professional, and he gave me detailed advice, which I appreciated. However, they charged me $52 to get a copy of my prescription, which according to ftc.gov violates the Eyeglasses Rule, which states that an Optometrist or Opthalmologist may not "Charge the patient any fee in addition to the ophthalmologist's or optometrist's examination fee as a condition to releasing the prescription to the patient.". read more

Buyer beware, I booked an appointment for my fiancé for some eye pain he had been struggling with for a few days. After I told him that I booked it, he said it was starting to feel better and that he was going to cancel. He called the clinic just a few minutes after I booked it, to cancel. They told him they were charging him $50. He refused and they took him to collections. He finally paid, and then they accidentally charged his card twice! Now he has to wait to get refunded. Near the end of the session, I asked a followed up question to Dr. Guild regarding my vision options as it related to contacts vs. glasses.... essentially, as an overview/clarification. I have the appointment card with the date and time and I showed up, but nothing is on their schedule. They would charge me $50 if I didn't show up. Office is crowded, unfriendly and not pleasant. I have said every time I go there, that I'm never going again, but kept going cause they take our insurance. My mistake. The first time, we brought our daughter after she suffered a serious medical condition and we needed to see if her eyes were affected. They made us wait a hour and a half, with a toddler, while we watched tons of people who arrived after us get taken back. The Dr was completely not compassionate to our situation at all and maybe spent a total of 5 minutes with our daughter. Next time I go I need contacts, they say they won't give me any unless I get another exam. They don't have any samples to give me until my exam either... supposedly. I go back for the exam. After, they don't have my contacts in stock. I order and pay for $500 glasses and new contacts. I then ask for some samples to take home since I'm still out of contacts until my order comes in. She tells me they're all out without even looking. I sit there for another 20 minutes and watch nearly every patient walk out with samples. While picking out glasses, she tells me the ones I like don't look good on me and which ones I should get. A young man came in and she did the same thing to him. Made me feel bad for him. Last time I went in, was to pick up more contacts and was just treated so rudely and with so much disrespect. They acted annoyed I was there and told me to call if I wanted a refill. F this place. Oh, and the Dr made the prescription only for one a days so it's impossible for me just to get normal contacts unless I get another exam. If I could give it a zero, I would. Normally I would NOT give a bad review like this however I feel traumatized by my visit yesterday. The first thing I noticed was very limited parking and hardly any in the area so if you have an appointment & are having problems with your eyes, have someone drop you off and then pick you up and drive you to/from your appointment. The place was chaotic from entry...people were everywhere, no area for wheelchairs so they were in front of the available seating so many were standing outside waiting to be called. I asked why is this so crowded, and the receptionist acted as if this was normal, "We have four doctors here most days but Wednesday" People were everywhere, staff rushing here and there. So my turn came up...They called me by my first legal name. I had written above the name, PLEASE CALL ME "Lelani" (not my real name). So, a woman in black scrubs (everyone on staff was wearing black scrubs) calls for a name that is on my insurance, drivers license. I stand up and she turns around without even eye contact and walks in front of me to a room and says, "sit there, put your things there" ... I then said, "Good morning, my name is Lelani, what's yours?" She was already seated looking at her computer and typing into it and curtly turned 45 degrees not making any eye contact and said, her name abruptly and her face went straight back to the screen. Her questions were blunt, matter of fact, no emotion, no compassion and then ordered me to leave my things and we were going to another room for an exam. I tell her that I have my contacts on when we are in the room and she lets out a heavy sigh...oh, we have to go back, can't use this room....YOU get the idea. It goes from bad to worse when I question if I needed the dilation of my pupils as I was alone and driving. She almost came unglued why would I come to see an Opthalomologist and began treating me as if I were 4 years old scolding and explaining what an eye Dr is. ( I have an upper education/owned many companies/ran huge organizations etc.) She was condesceding and abrupt. I think she learned it from Dr C who was ridiculous in his questioning me later on, bring up my history that had little if nothing to do with my eyes. He may know what he is doing however he has a lot to learn even at his old age, that people are humans and not data. After questioning him about having to be dialated or not, he shrugged saying the exam would not be thoughly without it and that the effects would only last an hour or two. I sat in the parking lot for the first hour taking his word that it would go away, when it didn't I drove slowly home in horrific overly brightness that I tried to block out with visor, extra cover over the side windows. It has been over 24 hours and I still have dialiated eyes!!!! I feel that not one person there had one iota of care about me or how I was dealing with their attitudes...do this, do that which I complied hoping to find out what my actual problem might be. If I had not been so concerned about my eyes, I would have left immediately but unfortunately stayed. I will NEVER to there again. There is NO Aloha especially with Dr C and his staff! Save yourself from trauma...go elsewhere! read more

I've never given a negative yelp before. I rate Recent cataract surgery a 1... much of the staff did not seem as competent and professional as I have experienced with other doctors. The last straw was after mentioning to every doctor at every visit, which were numerous,My frustration with my leaking eye And being told it was dry eye. And to use drops, I finally got another opinion and Was told it was a bacteria in the eye. Anabiotic's relieved it immediately and now after a year of tears streaming down my face, my eye is fine. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone ! I was 5 minutes late because I was walking around the complex looking for the office . Mind you, there is NO sign of the name ANYWHERE ! When I finally found the office, the lady comes outside with an immediate attitude ! No greeting whatsoever ! During my appt, the doctor was all over the place, didn't even have the things he needed . He needed to run outside multiple times . I waited 2 weeks for my glasses and paid $70, only to get home & realize they don't do the job . So I call the NEXT DAY to have my lenses changed . They said they need to talk to the doctor and get back to me . It's been a few weeks & still NO answer ! It shouldn't take THAT long to get back to a customer ! Wailuku office has always been 5 stars, but they were booked for two months, so I made an appointment with the Kihei office. Never again. I had to call several times to get through to make an appointment as I was put on hold for 15-30 minutes each time. During my appointment the doctor was thorough and helpful. When it was time to get my glasses the woman in the optical department barely helped me at all. I don't think she got out of her seat even though I had a mask on. Also, she did not educate me about transition lenses and when they came in I had the smaller area for close vision. I didn't know there were different choices. Luckily the woman there when picking them up was kind enough to explain how these type of glasses work. However, nobody offered to see how they fit on my face, so my ears are throbbing because they are too tight against my skull and sit on my face crocked. Probably swing by Costco optical and see if they will adjust them because they have always been super friendly and eager to be helpful. read more

In February I went to the clinic for my yearly eye exam. Usually, I get eyeglasses and am also fitted for contact lenses. Because I have been encouraged to get cataract surgery, which I am scheduled for in the summer in Europe, I am not getting contact lenses. This was discussed with Dr. Guild. He didn't do any contact lens fitting, but mentioned I could carry on with current glasses, lenses, etc. until the summer surgery. As I left, he asked me if I had enough lenses, to which I replied, 'yes.' Then, I thought I couldn't exactly picture how many were left, so I suggested I could take a prescription in case I needed any. Dr. Guild handed me the sheet. The office people did not say I would be charged. I went home, saw I had plenty of lenses and thought no more about it, until I got my $52 bill. I called FIVE times and got no answer. When I went in, they would not change the bill. I will be filing a complaint with the DCCA. read more
