Usually ok but the last couple of times I came the girl doing my laser was really rude. This time she saw me 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment which, I get it, sometimes people and things run behind. That's fine. What wasn't fine was that she rushed me in and didn't say a word to me other than how to position myself and what to do. She sprayed me and started doing the treatment without any warning. When l met her at the desk after she didn't even look at me she just said she'll take care of your follow up appointment (the girl at the desk) and ran off to clean the room. She had really poor customer service and bedside manner. Up until then my only criticism is that the rooms are cold and the lights are blaring so it's not super relaxing- but I get it if they need the light to do their job, Other than that girl it's fine. I went there recently for my eyes and it was a good improvement. The only thing I am disappointed in is the male doctor (not Alan) who saw my tattoos and began saying "when you get older they fade, and you'll look at yourself and feel silly, especially if it's something visible." Which hits a nerve with me since I work at a tattoo shop and my entire family who I referred to also come here has tattoos. I don't feel like that was necessary, and to be frank it was quite rude and unprofessional. It has been 2 weeks since I walked into Aloha Laser Vision for my free consultation, and I am ready to give my review! :) Since then I've had a total of 5 visits: consultation, prep before LASIK (day before), LASIK procedure visit, follow up visit (within 24 hours after procedure), and my 1 week follow up visit. 1. Well-oiled machine This office is busy, busy with a lot of technicians and doctors and front desk girls and coordinators. I like the pace of the place and I like the efficiency. You get emails and text messages regarding your upcoming appointments and instructions (I.e. Don't forget to take "these" eye drops "this" many times a day). Lots of moving parts but everyone seems to know what they're doing. 2. Laser Procedure Literally the best thing I've ever done. I can't go into it more than anyone else has so far in their reviews. The down time is extremely low and I'm back to driving. I went to a football game the day after my LASIK procedure, and I was dumb founded with how clear everything was less than 48 hours after the surgery. It's magical! 3. Dr. Faulkner & Dr. Mau Super cool dude and dudette. From what I hear, Dr. Faulkner is famous and known for his jobs well done. I concur, he's excellent! From his mannerisms, his calmness, his jokes, and his confidence in his practice, a job well done. Dr. Mau is one of those people you meet and instantly feel comfortable around. 24 hours ago I was under the laser getting my Lasik procedure done at Aloha Laser Vision. After a solid 5 hour nap following the procedure I woke up and had vision that far exceeded what my glasses were offering. Having just returned from my post-op visit, it is confirmed as I now have 20/15 in one eye and 20/20 vision in the other. The experience was flawless and there's been practically no discomfort. I'm already back to work, I'm feeling great, and not having to deal with contacts or smudgy glasses this morning was a real treat. Thank you for your reply Gloria F, tried to message you but it said error. Initially saw my PCP who wanted me to see someone within the same network and no referral was needed. Asked them is there anyway I can have Dr. Faulkner's office do it as I was already referred to them by my eye doctor and established care with them. They advised me to contact HMSA. Per HMSA- NO referral would be needed for providers within the same network even for HMO members, especially for the procedure I was getting. Advised that if I switch networks to match Dr. Faulkner's network (Hawaii IPA) then I wouldn't need a referral. You know just doing my "ultimate patient responsibility" like you stated. Informed Lucia of everything, she says I need a referral because my medical still shows HMSA HMO. Informed her my medical would be the same but my network switched to match Aloha Laser's network -Hawaii IPA. At any point Lucia could've informed me that not all doctors with you folks belong to the same network. You know just something to help the patient understand or is this not their responsibility??? This info could have saved all of us so much time and frustration. However, she made no mention of this rather kept texting "if medical says HMO then I would still need a referral." We continue to go back and forth through text as texting was more convenient for her even though I expressed if she could please call me to discuss. Instead I get a call from Elaine (billing rep) and at this point customer service continues to go downhill as mentioned in my previous review. I'm glad our conversation was monitored and you can verify my conversation with Elaine and Chris Faulkner. I decided to quote only the main key points as more was said by Chris, who seemed more concerned about putting me in my place than anything else. Really surprised on how all the blame was put back on the customer and the lack of professionalism, given your folks yelp reviews. Despite their name, Aloha Laser Vision does regular ophthalmology for contacts and glasses. I've seen Dr. Sato for contact fitting and she is professional and friendly. They also provided me with all the rebate papers and let me know the deals that the contact company was offering. My previous eye Dr. Didnt do that! As mentioned in other reviews, they have some higher tech machines which give me the confidence that they are keeping up with the best. After a lifetime of glasses and contact lenses, I was finally ready to make the move and do LASIX. Because I live outerisland, I asked my eye doctor who they worked with in Honolulu. They referred me to Aloha Laser, and I am sooo happy they did! Everything was done so well and professionally, but also very friendly. I had many questions (of course), and I never felt rushed or any level of impatience. Drs. Mau and Hano Hano-Hong were fantastic and informative. Bronte was my counselor who walked me through the ins and outs of the procedure--she is a doll!! But of course, Dr. Nikpoor stole the show, since she is the one who did my procedure. She was very open and talked to me during the procedure, telling me what she was doing. The two technicians in there were great too! I told them all what a well-oiled machine they are. It's clear they know what they are doing and also love what they do. The procedure was literally SO simple. On a scale of 1-10 it's a zero for pain or discomfort. My vision was good after--didn't need anyone with me, and I just took an Uber to my hotel and slept. After my 3pm checkup I went shopping at Ala Moana! Just to say, your vision after will be kinda like you have your contacts in and they are smudgy--so you can see, but it's not razor sharp. I was fine getting out of the building (even though Bronte walked me out and waited with me). And they have homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! Dr. Faulkner makes them every week. As a new patient seeking new doctor I selected Dr. Mau based on her reviews. After making a new patient appointment in order to obtain new Rx for specs and contacts, I expected a very simple eye exam. When I arrived I was taken into an exam room then moved to another testing area for a more extensive evaluation and back into the exam room where they placed some type of ointment in my eyes...thinking it was as general as this place gets to complete their initial eye exam. Shortly I realized I couldn't see very well and that my eyes have been dilated!! Ummm, I don't think they realize I drove myself to this exam!!! The testing became more extensive and I had to let doc know that I need to make another appointment to complete the remaining portion of her tests because I had to get back to work in a half hour. I rescheduled my appointment and was on my way. As I got into my car and drove out of the parking structure still having problems trying to see clearly, my eyes started to feel extremely sensitive to the sunlight!! I was upset because I am now a danger to myself and others on the road. I was angry that I was not told I was going to have my eyes dilated ahead of time. I was not informed of this process and not was I recommended to have someone drive me after my appointment! Most of all I was disappointed that it happened right before I had to get to work and discover I was unable to do my job and without a doctor's note so I was placed in a position that did not need me to verify crucial information at my job and being very new to this job it does not look very good to have to be accommodated while on probation. The 3 lousy stars is for the lack of courtesy and the trouble I went through to get myself back to work. It's very disappointing. Other than that I think their assessment and evaluation process of the exam was extensive and accurate. Just please bring someone with you to avoid driving with dilated eyes and placing yourself in a bad position. Dr. Mau is very thorough will perform a variety of tests to clear out any questionable results and I am guessing that perhaps her staff who are making the appointments should be informing the potential new patients that appointments should be made on a day they do not have to go to work and suggest they bring a driver to take them home after the exam. I do highly recommend Dr. Mau, my experience helps me and hopefully others to avoid the trouble i experienced and make their visit a more accomplished one! Definitely plan on going back to continue services with Dr. 3/16/2018 I decided not to go back to Dr. Mau and found Dr. Harada in Kapolei. Fortunately, I found a doctor who did not assume that I do not know how to put on my make-up like Dr. Mau told me as she says applying my eyeliner inside my eyeline was causing my eye dryness...I don't wear makeup often but when I do I never apply the liner inside the eyeline. It was always applied at the lashes and out. Dr. Harada did not assume anything I was doing wrong to cause my dry eyes instead she asked further if my lashes and lids feel itchy at times and when I responded yes, she concluded that my eyes are sensitive to dust and may have eye allergies causing the dryness. I felt a ton of pressure lifted off my chest! I just dropped Dr. Mau's review to one star for her assumptions. No customer service here! If you can drive out to Kapolei, see Dr. Wendi Harada! Dr. Faulkner was awesome! I was super nervous going into it, but now that I've been through it, I would recommend it 1000%! As soon as the short 10 minute, or so, procedure was done, I sat up from the table and could immediately see clearly as if I had my contacts in. My vision is so great right now (20/15. Same as if I had my contacts or glasses on) that I can even see better at night while driving. The headlights and street lights at night had really begun to bother me and this has pretty much cured it all. I went in for a consultation on a Tuesday, and their tests were quick and smooth, and the counselors explained the process very well and assured me that it would be a life-changing investment. Today I had an appointment for laser hair removal at 9am. After 15 minutes, I was still waiting for my appointment. I then approached reception and said that I was on time and appointment will need to be rescheduled if another 10 minutes goes by. I am a small business owner and my work revolves around seeing clients. When I don't see my clients I don't make money. I moved things around so I can make this appointment. Reception told me if I can wait a little longer or they can reschedule me for another day. They double booked my slot. They didn't call me to let me know this though. And I wish they had. If I was given this information I would have had a chance to keep my usual clients at 8:30 and 9:30 rather than cancelling/rescheduling on them and be able to have my laser completed at another time. Instead I waited 15+ minutes for my appointment. Which I couldn't go to. She then told me that all appointments are double booked. So she'll reschedule me but that's the nature of how they book appointments. Double booking. And I'll be facing that again for my next sessions. That doesn't make sense. So if the person i share a slot with arrives a minute before me, then she goes first and I have to wait until they are done with whatever skin treatment s/he has?? How is that ok for any business to practice??? I have 2 more sessions but now I'm turned off. Are they trying to make as much money as possible by double booking? I'm a small business owner as well and I would never double book clients just to get more $ and disregard and disrespect my client's time. read more
