The best decision I made! My prescription was pretty high (I've been wearing glasses almost 20 years) but they made me feel at ease and didn't make me feel bad about lack of sight. Highly, highly recommend Dr Faulkner and his team. After years of procrastinating, I've finally had LASIK and could not be happier with the results (20/15!!!). I spent a lot of time researching Dr's and practices and also attended a few consultations here and in NYC. Aloha Laser Vision was by far the best. The offices are fresh and bright and parking is validated. Dr Faulkner is friendly, warm and to the point--I loved his directedness, as I personally find nothing worse than a Dr who meanders around the point when it comes to my body and health. Initially, I was slightly cautious given the very long, negative review here... but decided to investigate for myself. Glad I did, because I had an awesome experience, and I can't quite understand how that person had a such an abysmal experience. It just doesn't add up. The team at ALV were absolutely amazing--Mark, Courtney, Dr Faulkner, Dr Honohono-Hong and the rest of the team are incredibly respectful, knowledgeable and FUN. They all put me at ease with my decision to go ahead with LASIK and made my entire experience a totally enjoyable one. The surgery itself is a cake-walk (well, I guess the valium certainly helped with that!)--it's all over within 15mins or less and is zero pain. And Dr Faulkner personally makes fresh cookies for patients to enjoy before/after surgery--such a lovely, personal touch (and yes, they were delicious!). Downtime is the absolute minimum, I had a four-hour nap right after the surgery and was able to see perfectly upon awakening. At night I have not experienced halos, but I am getting rainbows around certain lights... I actually don't want this to go away, haha! But Dr Faulkner tells me it will. Overall AWESOME experience from the first visit, 2nd vist, lasik procedure, and all the follows up that i've been to so far. Dr. Faulkner is great just like his team. There were so many of you i couldn't remember all of your names. I wanted to get lasik for a couple years now, but i had a fear of what could go wrong. Dr. Faulkner has a ton of experience with an outstanding track record. After talking to Dr. Faulkner and Jayci i was so excited i wanted to get it done that day. If your "shopping" around just remember this is your vision. If the price seems to good to be true it probably is. These guys have the latest and greatest technology. I just got Lasik on both my eyes yesterday and had my post-op appointment today. Dr. Faulkner and his staff are amazing! I can finally see! I had been wearing glasses for about the last 25 years and contacts for about the last 16 years and being able to wake up and see without corrective lenses is mind blowing to me. From the initial consult to my latest appointment today, everyone at Aloha Laser Vision was friendly, professional, and just so easy to work with. The refractive counselor Lucia was helpful, pleasant, and informative, and I really liked Dr. Mau, one of the ophthalmologists at the office (I never met the other one). Keala, one of the techs there, was also super warm and friendly. Unfortunately I cannot recall the name of the woman who briefed myself and a couple other patients immediately prior to the Lasik, but she was fantastic, too. Pretty much everyone I crossed paths with was great and made the process so smooth. If you are on the fence about getting Lasik, I strongly urge you to schedule a consultation to get your questions answered and any concerns assuaged. It's been about 2 weeks now since getting Lasik and I'm still grabbing for my glasses that I no longer keep in front of me and get this feeling that I'm supposed to be taking out my contact lenses before bed, though I'm not wearing any.... The consultation was pretty thorough and helped me make my decision that very same day easier. In fact, they had room for me to come in 2 days later for the surgery! I waited a week though; work and stuff. The surgery itself was quick and painless. I don't believe I was in there for more than 10 minutes. I did smell when the laser was working, but it really wasn't that bad. The only slight discomfort I had was on the ride home but, once home, took the extra Valium they gave me, and crashed out. I was fine after waking from the nap. The very next day was my first followup, and it was the first time in my life that I have every driven without glasses or contacts. Felt unreal testing my eyes out by reading license plates and signs along the way, and even now 2 weeks later, I still catch myself doing it. Also during the first followup, I was able to read some of the letters on the 20/15 line. I was already happy with the results, and then the doctor said "It will get better when the swelling goes down". Went back to work the next day. read more

Getting lasik at Aloha Laser Vision was one of the best decisions I've ever made. 48 hours after surgery, I can see 20/15 for distance and can read without glasses again. They made sure i understood everything about the process and checked my correction 4 times before the surgery to make sure we were aiming for the best vision possible. Carol in the preop room was so calm and helped relieve any enxiety i had. The valium was nice too. The procedure itself was a breeze, no discomfort, and Dr. Faulkner talks to you the entire time. I actually thought the surgery was a blast. The most uncomfortable part for me was getting dilated during the preop exam the day before. My rating is solely based on the office staff. If I could give it a zero star, I would. It's upsetting after reading all these great reviews -- I was hoping to receive the same experience, but unfortunately it wasn't the case for me. As a side note, my experience with the MD's have been marvelous and it was a shame I had to cancel my procedure because of inefficiency with the staff. To better explain my reasoning and experience without coming across too irate. I had a great consult with the physician's, but the office staff experience was mediocre in the beginning. I have worked in many medical offices and I know we can have our bad days, but that should not flow over to customer/patient service. The office staff is the backbone of medical practices and if a patient is not happy/comfortable, we will not want to come back. Since I was happy with the physician's I went ahead and made my future appointments for my LASIK procedure for the upcoming 2015 year. I planned to use my medical flex benefits -- using the remainder of what I had in 2014 and then paying the rest when the 2015 year rolled around. I called around November 2014 to make my initial payment. The receptionists could not find my appointments/account in the system. My DOB they had for me was incorrect, but she found me and nothing more. I told her the dates I have on my calendar for my future appointments, but for some odd reason she couldn't pull up any financial information. So she took a message and told me the person that handles their finances will call me back. I didn't hear back from anyone and forgot about it for a while. I sent Tess an email in December and explained to her what was going on and to contact me. I received no reply. So I actually forgot again. Then towards the end of the month I realize I need to use my medical flex benefits or I lose it when the 2015 year comes around. I called for 2 days straight and went through their automated system and was put on hold, I am not kidding when I say I was on hold for over 30 minutes. Yes, I stayed on hold because it was during the New Year's eve week, so I figured they must be busy with other calls similar to mine. I called and waited a few times for 2 days. There was no voicemail or option to leave one. I hope the issue was that the office staff forgot to forward their calls to their voicemail. My last attempt was just sending a message via the website. Informing them about their phone line, what my issue was and to please cancel my upcoming appointments in 2015 because of inconsistencies. Because of that message, I FINALLY got a call and email response. They did apologize, which was well deserved. But, that is not good enough for me. I actually lost $170 from my flex benefits and wasted so much time trying to contact someone. I went else where for my procedure and that was the best choice I made and I should've went with my gut feeling from the beginning. I hope Aloha Laser see's this and uses this as a learning experience for their office staff. read more

I can see clearly now, the rain has gone. After 20 years of corrected vision, I can finally see without any glasses or contacts! Aloha Laser Vision is very efficient while being careful and safe. My optometrist Dr. Ede recommended Dr. Faulkner. Aloha Laser has been very straightforward with the cost, what to expect, and adequately educated me on the eye drop regime and how to care for my eyes after the procedure. They have been helpful at answering all of my questions. The numbers Dr. Mau got for my vision were different from my optometrist, so she took the time to triple check them with dilation and again the next day, the day of the procedure! I appreciated how she took the time to double check everything even though there had been a lot of other patients. During the procedure, Dr. Faulkner was good at telling me what was going on so that I did not freak out when there was a temporary loss of vision or when the laser started. I had a big correction, so things were blurry right after the procedure, but improved greatly with time. On day one after the procedure, I just missed a couple of letters on the 20/20 line and one week after the procedure I was seeing 20/15 with both eyes! Both Dr. Faulkner and Dr. Ede said that this was to be expected with a big correction, so don't freak out if you can't see perfectly right away! Just remember to keep up with the eye drops! I would definitely recommend Dr. Faulkner and Aloha Laser Vision for Lasiks. read more

I made the decision to get LASIK right before Christmas. It was one of those, "I want it, I want it now." I did my research and came across Aloha Laser Vision online. They had great reviews, informative website, and a few of my friends said Dr. Faulkner is a great eye doc. My initial free consultation was painless. You get your basic eye exam and then a bevy of preliminary photos of your corneas/eyeballs. I was greeted by Dr. Sato and we discussed my options and my vision. I got to meet Dr. Faulkner and discussed all of my questions and fears about LASIK. I felt pretty confident about going forward with the process so I scheduled my 2nd appointment with all of the wonderful testing and dilation. I have to say the office staff treats you like a million bucks. Very nice people. In order to progress with LASIK, I had to ditch the contacts and sport glasses up until surgery day. My second appointment went a bit longer, but again, the docs wanted to make sure my measurements were still the same. Next week....surgery day, last vision test. I am a chicken. A fraidy cat. Terrified beyond all reproach. Fear dissipated with a Valium, cozy chairs, a dark room, and zen like music. The pre op nurse was fabulous. She made me quite comfortable while waiting my turn. When it was my turn to go under the laser, she allowed my boyfriend to take photos and video with my phone (airplane mode!!!). Literally took 5-10 minutes. No pain. No pain. No pain. Numbing drops and an accommodating staff made surgery much easier. And yes, I did hug the teddy bear. Don't judge. It's been over 24 hours since the surgery and my vision is 20/15. My eyes are a little dry but easily remedied with artificial tears purchased from Aloha Laser vision. If you are considering LASIK, go for the consult. It feels amazing to not have to worry about contacts or glasses anymore. Oh yes, and after surgery, you get fresh baked chocolate chip cookies prepared by Dr. Faulkner!!! Totally made my day. Who-hooo! Prior to choosing Dr. Faulkner, me and my bf did a lot of research and a few consultations with other opthamologists. I mean, we only have one pair of eyes, right? I'm severely near-sighted and have been wearing glasses since the 4th grade. After talking it over, both my bf and I decided to go with Aloha Laser Vision and I'm glad we did! Consultations went really smooth and the staff were really nice to us. They answered all my questions and discussed any fears that I had. It was also cool that we get discount with HMSA and another discount for paying all at one time. The week after consultations we did the surgery. Dr. Faulkner even baked yummy chocolate chip cookies! The surgery didn't hurt at all and the techs counted down during the procedure which made me feel more comfortable. After I got home and took my nap, my vision was already clearer and even more clear the following morning. I had 20/15 vision at follow-up and I was so stoked! I still trip out because I feel like I'm wearing contact lenses. I'm so glad I was able to do lasik. Very very worth the investment!!! After leaving my consultation with Dr. Faulkner and his team, I felt confident to move forward with LASIK. His associate, Dr. Mau was extremely thorough and addressed all of my concerns. The technicians were extremely friendly knowledgeable, and helpful. I felt like I was in great hands throughout my preop eval, during surgery, and postoperative. The only time during surgery, where I felt any discomfort, was when this ring was placed around my eye but it only felt like pressure for a minute. Otherwise I was completely pain free. Amazing. Let me start by saying I had a MAJOR eye phobia. I couldn't wear contacts, I couldn't put eye drops in, I couldn't even watch other people put eye drops in! Consultation After the consultation, my fear of LASIK completely went away after talking with Dr. Mau. She answered all my questions, told me stories of others who had eye fears, showed me how to put eye drops in, and told me exactly how LASIK works. Even though it was a free consultation, she made sure all my questions were answered and my fears were put to ease. Then I met Dr. Faulkner, who is very friendly, funny, and is confident in his abilities. Just like Dr. Mau, he answered all my questions and discussed what is to be expected after LASIK. After meeting with Dr. Faulkner, I met with this very nice lady (I believe her name was Tess), and she went over what was expected from me, the cost, and scheduling. Once again, another friendly staff member willing to answer all your questions!! Eye Tests (done a few days before LASIK) Dilated my eyes, met with very nice guy who did some more eye tests, then met with Dr. Mau to check eyesight while dilated. Quick and easy. LASIK Day I walked in with my boyfriend, met with Dr. Mau to triple check my current eyesight, and was immediately showed to an area that's very relaxing (nice music, darkish, comfy chairs, cookies (made by Dr. Faulkner.... unfortunately I can't give a review on the cookies because my boyfriend ate mine -_-). The very nice nurse/assistant (not sure what her title is), talked me through the procedure (which honestly sounded disgusting) and told me what to expect- sounds, smells, visuals. By this point, I was pumped and just ready to get in there and have perfect vision! Once I entered the white room, they set you up and the procedure begins. Dr. Faulkner talks to you the whole time and it honestly isn't that bad. They put numbing drops in your eyes so you can only feel some pressure, no pain whatsoever. The whole procedure took about 10 minutes. I was up, they all congratulated me, and the nice nurse/assistant walked me all the way down to the curb and waited with me while my boyfriend went to get the car. I took a sleeping pill and slept for the next several hours before I had to go back for the check up. After LASIK checkup Met with Dr. Faulkner and everything was perfect! My vision was 20/20 Right and 20/15 Left(better than 20/20!!). To the ladies at the front desk- I think I checked in with each one of you at least once throughout my visits, and you were all so kind and helpful. Thank you!! I've NOT worn my glasses for a long time and refuse to wear contacts even though I know I should. I've lived by with what I could see. I've considered LASIK for over 10 years and was a bit weary of the procedure. Now, I regret not doing it any sooner. The staff at Aloha Laser Vision was EXCEPTIONAL!!! I'm one to give kudos to those that deserve it and these guys truly do!! Their attention to detail and thorough examination made me feel confident that I had chosen the right place. Such a lovely experience once I was finally able to get the surgery done it was quick fast and painless. Right before surgery day I had my eyes checked to see if everything was good to go and just my luck I had many retina tears so I had to get the tears in my eyes fixed before I was able to get the LASIK. The retina tear laser surgery was performed out in town by some other doctor and that was horrible not going to lie so I was scared to actually get LASIK done. Once I was healed up from the retina tear surgery I finally got the LASIK done and I am so greatful. The staff here are super friendly and made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. I highly recommend this place to anyone who sick of wearing glasses. The surgery was so fast and Dr. Faulkner did a good job talking me through it. I felt no pain what so ever. I couldn't believe how fast and easy it was. I was able to see as soon as I got up from the table! They also have payment plans if you can't pay the whole amount so it is very convenient. Just finished the Lasik process a few days ago. Can't believe I've waited so long to do it! The entire staff (Carole, Tess, Dr. Mau, Dr. Sato, Dr. Faulkner, and one other person whose name I can't remember) did an amazing job coordinating appointments and answering any questions I had. Everyone was extremely helpful and informative as well as very thorough with their exams. I was amazed at how fast the operation was done and how there was no pain for me (aside from some pressure on the eye during the operation, which Carole prepared me for). Both my girlfriend and I had Lasik on the same day. We are both as pleased as could be with the results!!! Dealing with Aloha Laser Vision was about as easy as possible. Awesome experience. They are all so nice and take really good care of their patients with pre and post surgery appointments that are all inclusive. I had eye surgery about 2 months ago, PRK in the left and LASIK in the right. I had scarring damage but they were still able to do the surgery. I now have 20/15 and almost 20/10! Couldn't be happier with the results and customer service. The surgery was a little nerve wrecking, as it would be at any location, but the doctors and staff made me feel comfortable during the process. They were calm and it made me more calm. Once it was over, I hardly felt any pain or discomfort and the healing process was smooth. As expected, my PRK eye took a little longer to heal so it was a little blurry on and off for about a month. The LASIK eye was improved instantly, I could see perfectly the same day. Love it! Yesterday was my lasik eye surgery, the quickest, pain-free 15 minutes of my life. I woke up this morning with perfect vision. Today was my post-op and the results are in: 20/10 and 20/15! Better than 20/20 vision! Every penny was worth it. I am now able to wake up and go withtout worrying about whether to where glasses or contacts. I don't have to worrying about investing in botox to deter my wrinkle in the middle of my eyebrows from always squinting due to the bright sun. I can go out all night and not worry about having to be home at a certain time to get my contacts out before they start drying out and burning my eyes. The surgery itself went wonderful. It was quick and painless. A team of 3 highly trained professionals are in the operating room maneuvering this million dollar equipment. The procedure was quick, like 15 minutes total for both eyes and I could immediately notice the difference. The laser was painless, can't say what it felt like since I didn't feel anything but I can say it looked like a Star Wars laser show in my eyes. Would I do this again, of course!
