We moved my mother's body to Aloha Mortuary from Borthwick after receiving advice from someone at our church. It was the best decision for her and my family and I wish we had done it earlier. They had comparable packages for a more affordable price and way more compassion. I mainly worked with Pua. I did meetings with her and my sisters, made payments and spoke to her on the phone. Pua was also able to talk to my sisters during a very difficult time and was able to tactfully mediate between the three of us. Not only did she help us with the contract, and the planning, but she also showed up the day of the funeral, and also checked in after the funeral, and months after the funeral. She also arranged meetings for in person payments, as well as ways to pay online. I believe my sister had spoken with Heitiare for the transfer and the contract. Picking this Mortuary saved us more than 10 grand, compared to Borthwick Mortuary. I feel like Pua made the process way easier. She also made it more personal, which was the kind of support I needed during this sensitive time. If you're considering a Mortuary to move your loved one, I hope this helps. read more

When our loved one was in hospice, we were given a list of places that could handle funeral services. Specifically cremation. We personally wanted something without pomp or circumstance, friendly to our pocketbook, and what we deemed to be reasonable for how we view death. Aloha mortuary turned out to be one of the nicest, most efficient, and affordable places. The staff understood where we were coming from, laid things out in entirety--without hiding anything, and did not try to take advantage of us in any way in our moment of being overwhelmed. We had had some experience with the world of funeral services with a prior relative dying. And that experience with another company 20 years ago was kind of unpleasant. It felt like a lot of nickel and diming and trying to get more money out of us at a time where we were not well equipped to deal with those kinds of issues. For the cremation of our loved one, we picked Aloha. The staff, and the price, fit our budget and the staff is caring and concerning. The one thing I didn't like was the placement of and deadline for the newspaper obituary, it wasn't clear and we missed it. When you need mortuary services, Aloha Mortuary is the best one to call. I did a yelp search when my dad passed away, and I called a couple of places before I called Aloha Mortuary. After speaking to Nani, I knew I didn't need to call anyone else. She was extraordinarily kind, compassionate and clearly explained answers to all of my questions. I wasn't even sure what I needed, but she guided me through and arranged for pickup for my dad. The pickup team was kind and very understanding, as we were waiting for another family member to arrive and they gave us extra time. Nani kept in contact with me, and was available by phone for any questions and directions to their facility for his viewing. The team at the facility were so gracious and welcoming. The female staff member was so kind and supportive to my mom and I, and made our last moments with my dad, so very special. Nani continued to keep me updated on the process for cremation, as there was a hold up, due to the medical examiner needing to sign off on dad's paperwork. Her attention to detail and superior customer service made the horrible experience of losing my dad, into one that brought my family peace of mind. I cannot express how deeply I appreciated everything Nani and her team did to make this experience a positive one. UNPROFESSIONAL, UNRELIABLE, USELESS AND UN-FREAKING-BELIEVABLE. We brought my brother-in-law's remains here on the recommendation of a relative because Aloha Mortuary handled the international transfer of a relative's remains. Our goal was to transfer my brother in law to Reno, Nevada, so we figured that since they handled an international transfer, they can certainly handle a domestic one. Right??? WRONG!!! NO!!! NYET!!! IKAI!!! LEAI!!! Aloha Mortuary initially gave us Friday, June 28th as a date of arrival in Reno, then they pushed it to July 2nd due to having to get a bigger casket. Ok, that's reasonable. But now, Shana of Aloha Mortuary is telling us that my brother in law's remains will be going to Las Vegas! And the mortuary here will be responsible for picking up my brother in law's remains and transporting him to Reno. Does she not own a map?! Or not know how to use Google Maps or MapQuest???!!! Las Vegas is over 400 miles from Reno!!! And the kicker? Shana told my nephew that Las Vegas was a "cheaper" option. Heck, when my nephew was viewing caskets, He was only shown the "cheap" and "affordable" options until my nephew insisted that she (Shana) scroll down to view other options. It turned out that there were bigger and better options but Shana didn't want to show those. Hmmmm ... I wonder why?! Was she looking down at my nephew and think that we couldn't afford the nicer and more expensive options? Shana doesn't know our family and what we can afford! Rude. Discriminatory. And downright disgusting coming from someone in Hawaii! I can see this happening in the mainland but Hawaii?! I'm beyond disgusted and disappointed! [**Invoice has since been PAID IN FULL!!!] Our family is in mourning and the last thing we need is to deal with the incompetence of the Aloha Mortuary. in these situations, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!! Yet, Aloha Mortuary dragged its feet and didn't fulfill its obligations in a competent snd timely manner. We've looked at a number of airlines and their cargo policies pertaining to human remains and most airlines only require that reservations be made 24 hours in advance. So what's the problem?! The explanation we've been given is that Aloha Mortuary can't control where the airlines go ... ummmm, excuse me???!!! We do not live in Timbuktu. Most major airlines that service Las Vegas also service Reno! The latest? Now, Aloha Mortuary will send my brother in law's remains to San Francisco, then have the mortuary pick him up. Wow. Half the distance to Las Vegas. One has to wonder if Aloha Mortuary actually knows what they're doing. I am thinking that they don't, they're clueless. Apparently airlines won't take human remains all the way to Reno, despite the fact that a distant relative's remains will be transported by Southwest from Oakland to Reno next week, the first week of July 2024. Importantly, the mortuary here in Reno explained to us that there is an intermediary that would have brought our loved one all the way to Reno, if only Aloha Mortuary had done its research. Perhaps that was too much to ask, I mean, it's not like it's in its website that they provide such services, right? I mean, that would be FALSE ADVERTISEMENT, right??!!! Aloha Mortuary has had my brother in law's remains for over a week now, since June 19th. Yet, it took them days to figure out they needed a bigger casket, then a few more days to switch the destination from Reno to Las Vegas. And now, my family is trying to figure out whether to proceed with planning his funeral or wait for Aloha Mortuary to get its act together. We honestly do not know. But what we do know is that WE DO NOT RECOMMEND Aloha Mortuary at all. This entire situation has been an absolute SH*T show run by Aloha Mortuary. The last thing you want to do is have to deal with the uncertainty surrounding your loved one's remains while you're grieving. Keep your piece of mind and go elsewhere. Unless you like uncertainty, stress, unprofessionalism and being fed crap on a daily basis, then come here. read more

On the phone I was told the woman who handled the arrangements had forgotten to have me sign a 'Permission to cremate." Unforgivable and added greatly to my stress and delayed the cremation and thus the process of preparing death certificates. From the first call to the interment of our loved one at the National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl), everyone was extremely patient and made us feel so special especially with the care given to our loved one.
