Beginning our time there at the temple felt like the most peaceful and grounding way to start. From the moment we walked in, everything slowed down. Even though there were several groups of visitors, everyone was quiet and respectful, which preserved a beautiful sense of calm. The temple is a stunning replica of the historic Byōdō-in in Japan, and it's absolutely breathtaking in person. The large Buddha statue inside is gigantic and awe-inspiring. We bought a small bag of food and scattered pellets into the different ponds where bright koi fish gathered in clusters, Turtles, Peacocks, wild cats rested in shaded corners, and the birds (so accustomed to visitors) ate directly out of our hands. We lit incense together and took a few quiet moments to reflect on the family members we were there to honor. Ringing the sacred bell before entering felt symbolic , like setting an intention for remembrance and gratitude. Parking is a nightmare and there is a small fee. But you will get back what you put in because it is a gentle, meaningful, and peaceful way to begin your visit should you find yourself in this side of the island.

Overall this is one of the most peaceful places that I have ever been and if you haven't taken a full temple tour please ask to take part in one, if time allows. I love the temple gift shop and the employees are so nice ... They have just about every little (and some big) memento that you could want and they even sell bird and fish food so you have the option of filling your hand with bird seed and then holding out your hand... the birds will eat from your hand... OR you can visit the coi pond, take a seat and feed the fish. Both are equally peaceful.

LOVED! It was surprisingly not busy on a Sunday afternoon. I purchased my ticket online for $10,…read morebut didn't realize I would also have to spend an additional $6 on parking upon arrival. So in total you're really spending around $16. The tickets can be used at any point once purchased, in other words you don't have to go on a specific day. You can feed the coy fish, birds, and ducks with the food you buy on property. It was like $4 per little plastic bag. The Buddha area is small but BEAUTIFUL! They keep everything in great conditions. The service before entering the grounds is helpful. There's a bell you can ring which was cool. I enjoyed my experience here and I would totally go back

As someone who avidly visits this temple, I was very disappointed during my most recent visit. I…read morehave not been able to come as often lately due to being busy, but the changes since my last visits are honestly upsetting. According to staff, many of these changes are due to new management, and it really shows. It feels like the temple now caters heavily to tourists, even prioritizing bus and tour group parking over regular visitors. They no longer accept cash and are completely card-only, which was frustrating. On top of that, all parking now requires payment. It used to just be an entry fee, which was understandable, but now you have to pay for both parking and entry. You can really tell the shift toward a more tourist-centered experience. While the informational papers are nice, there are so many of them now that it feels excessive. They also charge for photos at certain "immersive" spots, around $20 for a single digital image, which feels unreasonable. What makes me the most sad is how the atmosphere has changed. I always loved coming here for the peacefulness, the koi, the quiet environment, and the kind staff. Now it feels less relaxing. There are no longer proper shelves for shoes inside the temple, just the floor, and the cubby areas seem to be gone. The shoe policy is also not enforced. Within 30 minutes, I saw multiple tourists walk in with their shoes on without any issue. It is disappointing to see how much has changed. Not accepting cash, increased costs with paid parking, and the overall shift in environment have made the experience feel less genuine. I have visited at least five times before, including before, during, and after COVID, and it is sad to say I will probably be coming much less often now.

It's SOOOOO SAD to say that they made her look EXACTLY like a WITCH (no joke) without the hat or bump on the nose......she originally had a very nice ski-slope nose that they turned into a witches nose.....a HOOKED NOSE !!!.....OMG it was HORRIBLE !! That's not all they did......they made EVERY little WRINKLE SOOO PROMINENT on top of making her skin DARK BROWN (her skin was an average white Portuguese color) and she normally looked A LOT younger than what she was. It was like they took a dark brown slab of clay and tried to form it into a body and then pinched every little wrinkle to make them stand out everywhere but ESPECIALLY on the FACE !! I SO WISH I took pictures of what they made her look like......we would have a VERY GOOD lawsuit on our hands if I did !!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS MORTUARY they MUST have possessed people, or satanists working there (I'm SERIOUS) !!! I'll make sure to tell EVERYONE I know about this place.

Having been a…read morestudent of the SLS method in Maui myself, I was determined that my daughter should learn this method as well. Enter Cat. At the time my daughter was only 6 years old, and the youngest student in the studio. Cat had not had a student so young yet (now there are so many, it seems!) but she was willing to take a chance on us. She did not disappoint, treating my daughter with as much professionalism, respect and poise as she would any adult, all the while exhibiting patience and the insight to incite motivation in my daughter to learn and grow as a singer. In the years that followed my daughter performed in a number of singer showcases with other students from the studio. You have only to attend one of these showcases to see the level of success in each and every student - not just in skill, but in confidence and coordination. Everyone comes from a different place in terms of exposure, experience and skill, but Cat is somehow able to figure out what works best for you and your situation. And SLS is a fantastic method that really aids everyone from the shower singer to the aspiring local artist in singing their own best notes (to steal a line from Cat herself!)! Cat is a positive teacher who encourages you to reach higher and celebrates you when you get there. Her studio is in a great central location, and is warm and inviting. She even offers Skype lessons! If singing is something you've always wanted to explore and you're looking for a skilled teacher, visit Cat Wong Studio. You won't be disappointed!
