This is more of a technical review as well as a review for a specific funeral director since most other aspects were already covered in other Yelp reviews. I was impressed by the modern technology at the Diamond Head chapel that makes it convenient to display your videos and slide shows. Two large screen monitors are built in the chapel and one was in the lounge area where all share the same images. As an AV person, I can appreciate not having to setup a portable projection screen & projector on table and bring a separate sound system for it that is required at many other funeral venues. The wall monitors are easily visible in the ambient lighting compared to a projector and screen. The audio from the video/slide show were conveniently fed into the house sound system. The podium microphone was a high quality Shure gooseneck condenser microphone so it sounded very clear and the thin gooseneck was unobtrusive. Wyatt, who was the onsite funeral director, was professional, quick, attentive, talented and caring in all aspects of his services. He's not one to stand around doing nothing and has a keen sense of attention to detail as evidenced by him picking up trash to make everything perfect. He surprised us by playing the trumpet during the burial ceremony. Many professional musicians who happened to be in attendance commented on his skillful playing. Turns out he's an accomplished trumpet player as well as an instructor. I would recommend Diamond Head Mortuary and Wyatt as your funeral director. read more

Funeral/celebration of life planned through valley of the temples. Location is easy to find and there is a small parking lot as well as along the street of the gravesites. Our coordinator was Deanne. She was nice and easy to work with. The mortuary is sufficient with chairs like a traditional chapel. Negatives: The bathroom is very old and needs to be updated, when I informed Deanne of the bathroom floor being wet and I almost slipped-she addressed it but I later found out that they just placed a cone marking the floor was wet vs drying it and preventing a fall. The parking lot needs to be repaved, and the valley of temples team didn't get back to us quickly when we inquired about handicap/accessible parking. Thankfully they were able to put cones to reserve a few spots for the immediate family and handicap. Another negative was the sound system was delayed during the slide show/service which made it upsetting for me who made the slide show. Although communication could be really improve for better customer service and the facility needs remodeling, this is a okay place to have a service for your loved one. I had a service for my brother January 2025 and they screwed everything up. They didn't put the pictures I wanted in the program also did not put the poem I wanted. They also did not put my brothers obituary in the newspaper the week before the ceremony and when I called them about it they said they forgot and put the obituary the day before the funeral. The thank you cards were all screwed up. They charge ALOT for the funeral and never got an apology for the many mistakes. They did offer me a$288 refund out of the $9,000 plus cost which did not include burial however they never gave me the $288 even after asking them 4x for it. They are the WORST AND DON'T give a crap for your love one. They just want your money. NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES read more

We recently had my Father's service at Diamond Head Mortuary and the people we dealt with were outstanding. Cindy Kawamura was compassionate, understanding and straight up. Loved working with her as the first point of contact!!! Curtis Jackson Jr. was the officiant of the service along with Father Raymund Ellorin. Curtis went above and beyond to make everything special and personalized. He really paid attention to the details and got to know my Father through our testimonies. An odd experience to say the least. They made us make an appt for an in-person meeting. When we got there, it was chaos. Two salespeople in the room just giving us a slideshow of their products and services, and sat behind their computer screens, going in and out of the room. Their packages were ridiculously priced and told us we'd have to PICK UP the flowers from them the day of the service. When asked why it couldn't be delivered, they said that's not part of the package. We walked out and immediately called another establishment who went over everything in 5 minutes over the phone. When we selected the new establishment, Diamond Head Mortuary would NOT release our loved one from their "jurisdiction", even though we did NOT sign anything with them. Our new establishment called them, we called them, but they refused to let our "business" go. What a way to treat a grieving family. No one wants to talk or think about dying but there comes a time in one's life that you simply have to make plans for yourself and/or your family. I suppose that because we don't have children but have many nieces and nephews, we didn't want to burden our relatives when our turn comes to go to our final destination. So a couple of years ago, we finalized our planning. Because we have our plots at this memorial park and we made burial arrangements through memorial counselor, Joan Kai, at Diamond Head Mortuary. Joan was professional and compassionate, as at the time, we were still grieving over the loss of my father. We were able to select our plaques, burial containers (cremation) and burial services. Although this memorial park has a very nice chapel, we chose to not have any funeral services or memorial services. Over the years, we've come to this chapel and park to attend funerals of many relatives and some friends. The folks who maintain the chapel are certainly organized and work with families who have lost their loved ones. Planning ahead certainly takes care of most financial burden that comes with dying. As morbid as this sounds, I think it'll be a lot less stress on your relatives if you take care of business yourself ahead of time so you can decide and pre-pay for the kind of burial, cremation and funeral arrangements that you want. read more

Just before mom passed away, she said she did not want a funeral and that's what I said to the funeral director when I first met with her. She offered me the most basic package which included thank you cards, a sign in book, a canvas print, and flowers. I didn't need any of that since I wasn't having a funeral but I didn't have any other choice since it was the most basic package. Mom was cremated and I did receive her urn. Unfortunately, communication ended at that point. I did not get the flowers and canvas print. I tried to contact the funeral director to inform her that I was ready to schedule mom's burial. I have sent numerous emails and left two phone messages regarding this. I finally made my own arrangements for her burial since I could not reach the funeral director. And you guessed it, no flowers were delivered. I am glad the people that left positive comments had a great experience. If you choose to use this mortuary, I hope for the best for you and your loved ones. read more

What a nightmare of an experience with this place. Sales person who took care of us was totally unreliable. She would never return calls and was supposed to notify us once my mom's remains were to be cremated. Did not hear from her at all. Two weeks later, my sister happens to go by the office to sign some paperwork and was told, "Oh by the way, your mom's ashes have been here for two weeks. WTF! We were also supposed to use the chapel for services and they happen to double book the chapel for two families at the same time not to mention information on the services was already printed in the newspaper. They had one chance to get it right and I was absolutely flabbergasted that they couldn't even get it done right. What a nightmare. We later found out that the same person messed it up for other families too. Now I even wonder if those ashes in the urn are really my mom's or is it just ashes from the barbecue grill? Can't trust these people one bit. I have no doubt my mom and dad are rolling around in their graves wish I could give this a -5 stars. thanks for nothing. Pathetic! read more

I come here all the time to visit my mom, grand parents, as well as friends.......... For those of you who have experienced profound loss of a loved one, it's nice to know that your loved one is resting peacefully at Diamond Head Memorial Park/Mortuary. This beautiful park is located near the base of Diamond Head, sandwiched between 18th & 22nd Avenue. You can enter & exit the park from either street, and there is lots of space to park your car. I love the way that Diamond Head Memorial park upkeep's the park, as the grass is always pretty green, & the lawn is well trimmed. They also have water faucets all over the park (so you don't have to walk far) should you need water to fill up your vase, and they also have trash bins all over the place............... one bin to recycle the greens, and the other bin for trash. Sometimes I buy red roses for my mom, and the stems are a bit too long for the vase. One great tip folks...........if you go by the mausoleum area (by the sink area), there are flower cutters where you can use to cut your flower stems. Love that they have a few basic amenities out for the public to use. Life is pretty mysterious........... I got into a deep discussion over lunch yesterday with my Yelp buddy - Daniel C., as I mentioned to him not too long ago I was going to about 7 to 10 weddings a year, every year for a span of 5 to 7 years............ Then the next thing you know, I find myself going to a lot of kids 1 year old birthday parties....... Now, I find myself going to my friend's kid high school graduation parties, or my friend's parents funeral........sigh.......... Such as the circle of life........ I mentioned to my friend..........when you come into this world, you come alone. When you leave this world, most times you will go alone too. It really doesn't matter how much toys or money you accumulate over your lifetime, as you cannot take it with you. Be grateful & happy for what you have. While we are here, hopefully we live our life with purpose, and that we impact someone (loved one & friends) in a positive way...........because one day when you're gone.............all they will have of you is the wonderful memories. Highly recommended. Great location and nice chapel. I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism the staff had during my experience with Diamond Head Mortuary. They were punctual and followed up in areas where I was not. I would highly recommend using Angel and Erin. They made my family's event memorable to ensure the healing process and the closer. This is an updated review from 2016, based upon extensive contacts in 2019 for another family member. I can no longer recommend DHM or any of its services based upon our recent interactions. If I could, I would give NO stars. Our experience with the mortuary director and DHM in 2016 was extremely positive. Our experience this year was completely negative. The mortuary contract we chose in 2019 had a number of items included as part of the package. Shannon, the new director was pleasant, but would never return phone calls once we signed the initial contract. Over the weeks during the planning stage, my siblings and I would call, leave messages, and only the answering service or an office person (who never had any answers to very specific questions such as: are the flowers ordered? is our inurnment date confirmed?). Finally, the Thursday night before the Friday morning memorial service, I received a call from Shannon. She confirmed arrangements with me, but could not confirm whether we could have the inurnment the following Monday morning (when all the out of town immediate family could attend). She said the people in charge of the inurnment had not yet confirmed. The following day, I inquired of the on-site assistant at the service if we were going to proceed with the inurnment on the Monday after. He had no idea. Then on Monday, at 1:15 pm, Shannon's assistant called and asked if we were planning to attend the inurnment that day in 15 minutes!!! Well, that was impossible to do! And family were at the airport already to leave. I found out later that DHM had confirmed an appointment for us on the right day but at the wrong time, never told us, and that the confirmation had been made weeks before!!!! So they did not tell us the truth. Other problems: Shannon did not timely send us the DVD of pictures that they put together for us. We had to remind her, and received the rough draft only days before the memorial, too little time to make changes. We had ordered flowers from the immediate family to be at the memorial service. I personally confirmed with Shannon which flowers we had chosen from the arrangements. The flowers were not ordered and were noticeably missing from the service. We were not given any credits for using our own urns, stationery, etc. In short, a number of items in DHM's own contract were not fulfilled. I followed up after the service with Shannon's assistant, but have never heard anything back other than receiving a $200 credit, which does not address any of the items that were messed up. The missing flowers alone were valued at $300 according to DHM's own contract. Bad business, bad customer service. For a business that should be all about customer service, especially at such a difficult time, avoid these people! read more

My current rating is 0 stars. So far a terrible experience with Diamond Head Mortuary for a family member. Despite friendly personnel in our face-to-face meeting, everything else has been completely below expectations. Incorrect spelling of names, missing information in obituary, and VERY late obituary (which they said will go out 1 week prior, but ended up being 2 working days prior STILL WITH ERRORS). No offer of any rectification except for offer of thank you cards, urn, flowers, or photo which are all completely too late because of the late obituary and those were already taken care of. Cannot reiterate enough that this was not just one error, but numerous errors and repeat of errors. We made the mistake of paying up front despite not receiving all services yet. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. YOU ARE BETTER OFF FOLLOWING UP YOURSELF ON ALL ITEMS AND DON'T PAY UNTIL SERVICES ARE RENDERED.... SERVICE IS DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE. I do have a number of relatives laid to rest at Diamond Head Memorial. Will update if anything changes. You may also message me for further detail. read more

In trying to secure crematorium services for my sister-in-law who was in hospice care and slipping quickly, I called several services in Honolulu. I was fortunate to be connected to Jesse C at Diamond Head Mortuary as he was straight forward, helpful, and offered options in case I wanted something different. His help and service was a breath of fresh air as I had spoken to several other mortuary services and could not get a clear quote or answer from one and an estimate that was roughly three fold higher than what Diamond Head Mortuary offered. He promised to get me written proposals within a couple hours and delivered. All of my interactions with Jesse have been professional, efficient, friendly and timely. If I ever need these services again, I will certainly contact Diamond Head Mortuary and Jesse directly. read more

I'm not a fan of going to mortuary's. This was my first time going to a funeral service at this location (I usually go to the ones in Kaneohe). The service was an all day event. The viewing was in the morning, followed by speeches by the family, then lunch, and then the burial. It's wasn't a bad place. There was lot of space for people to sit and mingle, but it would get really really hot. Even if I was under the shade and under an umbrella, it was still hot. I suggest bringing an umbrella and lots and lots of iced water to keep your cool. read more

I don't get these guys. We were trying to do a simple cremation for my mom. To do that we need a call with one of their reps which is fine, we schedule an appointment phone call. The guy Bill is 20 minutes late for our scheduled call so I am emailing the receptionist to track him down. Finally, I get a call from Bill - progress. Bill says we need releases from other family members to cremate - fine. I go through the email addresses with Bill, even spend the time with him to reverify them. 10 minutes later I start getting cc'd email rejects from my siblings (now 3 and counting) ...Bill has typed the names or email addresses incorrectly. Some are .co instead of .com, gmil instead of gmail, some leave letters in the spelling of a name, etc. I am only in for a simple cremation - I can only imagine my frustration if I was doing something more involved/elaborate. I have asked Bill to cease any activity until I speak with a supervisor. Lets see how the rest of this pans out but for now I'd never recommend these people. read more

In past funerals the mortuary took care of flowers not taken by family. Also funeral director assigned to us never was present at service or burial. I would not recommend this mortuary to anyone. I found them to be irresponsible, unprofessional, and unresponsive. The pre- planner outright lied to me in an attempt to have me buy a 750.00 urn by informing me that I needed this specific urn to have my fathers' ashes placed in the veterans cemetery in Punchbowl. I called the cemetery and was told that I could use whatever container I wished, including a paper bag. When I called the preplanner and explained this to her she said "well, this is what I was told". When my father died they did have a polite young man come promptly to pick up the body. I did not hear from them for the next two days so I went to the mortuary at Diamondhead. The receptionist told me they were "much too busy" to allow me 15 minutes to fill out the death certificate and sign permission for cremation, despite the fact that I was leaving Honolulu the next day to return to my home. I was given a phone appointment 7 days later to do this. Meanwhile, the body was lying in a refrigerator somewhere for 8 days... . They did not call me at the set date and time, I had to call them. They then misplaced papers I faxed to them. All in all a very unpleasant experience at a most vulnerable time. Shame on this place. Find some other mortuary, read more

Hats off to a respectful and sensitive worker at DHM. The attendant who waited while we performed our service was excellent. He dutifully stood by for our service. When it was time to lower the urn into the ground he held the small wooden box as if it contained his own relative. He was sensitive to the grieving mother and graciously allowed the children in our family to indulge their curiosity about what was going on. He carefully arranged the Lei and flowers around the urn. He even surrounded the gravesite with the floral arrangements that we brought. After covering the box with dirt he carefully arranged the remaining lei over the grave. Attended a funeral here yesterday. Overall it was a nice place for a small (about 200 people) funeral. But no air conditioning during this hot spell we've been having and a 10:30 starting time made it a little uncomfortable for us. But the ones on the funeral party were really hot having been there longer. The PA system was very good. You could here the speakers well. The only other complaint was the small seating area for the lunch after. I don't know who catered but the food was really good. read more

It's kind of odd to review a mortuary home, but so many relatives are having to deal with them. I had to help my cousin and my uncle with my Aunt's arrangement. Spoke to Kay, the secretary, on several occasions. She was very, very helpful. Funeral Director was ok, but long winded. My family was very pleased with the chapel and the grounds, but the parking lot is ugly and needs to be repaved. Service and burial was very nice. My Aunt can rest in peace. read more

Losing a loved one can be one of the hardest things you ever have to do. Especially when it's someone as beautiful as my Aunty was...I was responsible for planning my Aunty's funeral. She was our everything, and I can't begin to put into words the loss we felt and are still feeling. Some aspects of planning the funeral were extra stressful for me, because of the disorganization of this place. I found that the funeral home took a really long time to respond to my emails, calls, questions. Even after sending follow up emails to respond to my questions. While we were able to have a nice service, it took a lot of my time, making sure they did everything we wanted. It also took a lot of waiting for someone to get back to me. Some aspects were great. We had a picture made with them, and it literally so beautiful My grandpa and I cried when We saw it. That might be why I was more inclined to give them 3 stars. Some of the the examples of disorganizations were when I came to make sure the video worked for the service. I had schedule a time In advanced, and they said the maintenance man was suppose to help me, and they didn't have any services scheduled so I could come whenever I wanted that day. I got there at about 8:30 Am, and when I got there the man didn't know he was supposed to help me. They also had scheduled a service that day and it was suppose to start in 30 mins. I didn't have the right adapter, and I left. I told him I would come back, as he was really busy. And I could tell he was stressed to get back to work to prepare for the service. Even though I was told there wasn't one scheduled. When I came back for the second appointment, I found similar problems... as they had had recently changed the video system, and they didn't know how to use it. I spent an hour there trying to get my video to work! I also was a little irritated that I had to go buy an adapter, as I have a Mac computer. After how much we spent on the services, and others spend on a services ( they can't buy a $26 adapter for families to use). I also spent a lot of time correcting information that I sent them like the obituary, memoir things, and etc. I spent hours making sure the grammar & spacing was perfect. When they posted it online I noticed several errors that shouldn't have been there. The copy I sent was perfect, and grammatical correct, and even after emailing them to make corrections & circling everything that need to be fix it still wasn't done. I had to email them three different times to get it fix the way I originally sent it. This place lacks attention to detail, and is disorganized. The last thing you want to worry about is all the little details. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, because I felt like the planning was incomplete/ or waiting for a response. While our service turned out really nice, it took a lot of unnecessary time on my partner that I didn't enjoy. The facilities are o.k. It is the Cemetary that needs a lot of work. There are ANTS everywhere.....the grounds don't appear to be treated regularly. I went to decorate grandpa's grave on Christmas.. There must have been thousands of ants when I pulled out the vase. They quickly crawled all over my feet, my arms, and even though I thought I brushed it all off...by the time I got to my car, I was still slapping, brushing ants off if me. at Mililani Cemetary, they regularly do maintenance with insecticides, so I don't have that problem...just disgusting the poor job Diamind Head maintenance crew DOES NOT DO. read more
