They watched as guests arrived and gave each guest a ride in their enclosed cart to avoid getting rained on. They waited and as guest left, they gave us rides to our vehicles afterwards, too. I had attended a service earlier this year, too, and had my elderly relative with me. This service was quite full so we had to park on the lower side. They gave us a ride at that time, too, which I thought was so thoughtful of the staff. The staff here is so awesome!

Hosoi did a wonderful job making sure everything was as she wished and easy to work with, absolutely organized, efficient, and very sympathetic. Dad passed a couple months ago and we were lucky to work with Ricki, who was so wonderful because there was an additional step to Dad's plan as he was a retired Air Force Lt Col so his final wish was to be interred at Punchbowl with full military honors. Ricki kindly helped with all of the plans, setting the date with Punchbowl and working with USAF to ensure dad received his honors. Ricki's been doing this a while so he has it down-pat and makes good suggestions, answers all our questions patiently, and just made us feel like family. Like he treated us how he would treat his own during this overwhelming time. He answered all our emails promptly and even called when he needed to discuss a more sensitive matter. During the grieving time your mind doesn't work as it should- or at least mine doesn't - it was a comfort to work with Ricki and the rest of the kind ladies in the office who remained professional but caring with each interaction we had. There are ample benched seating for the guests during the service both in and out.. Inside is nice, comfortable and air conditioned. Podium and microphone are present. You can show a video on the screen as part of your program. You can select your clergy person along with who does the eulogy or remembrances of your dearly departed. After the service it's customary to provide refreshments or a meal to your guests in their outside dining hall. The one we just attended got their deluxe bentos from Natsunoya and 3 kinds of mochi, manju from Kansai Yamato for dessert. Beverages are also provided. I was impressed by the modern technology at the Diamond Head chapel that makes it convenient to display your videos and slide shows. Two large screen monitors are built in the chapel and one was in the lounge area where all share the same images. As an AV person, I can appreciate not having to setup a portable projection screen & projector on table and bring a separate sound system for it that is required at many other funeral venues. The wall monitors are easily visible in the ambient lighting compared to a projector and screen. The audio from the video/slide show were conveniently fed into the house sound system. The podium microphone was a high quality Shure gooseneck condenser microphone so it sounded very clear and the thin gooseneck was unobtrusive. Wyatt, who was the onsite funeral director, was professional, quick, attentive, talented and caring in all aspects of his services. He's not one to stand around doing nothing and has a keen sense of attention to detail as evidenced by him picking up trash to make everything perfect. He surprised us by playing the trumpet during the burial ceremony. Many professional musicians who happened to be in attendance commented on his skillful playing. Turns out he's an accomplished trumpet player as well as an instructor. I would recommend Diamond Head Mortuary and Wyatt as your funeral director.

Beginning our time there at the temple felt like the most peaceful and grounding way to start. From the moment we walked in, everything slowed down. Even though there were several groups of visitors, everyone was quiet and respectful, which preserved a beautiful sense of calm. The temple is a stunning replica of the historic Byōdō-in in Japan, and it's absolutely breathtaking in person. The large Buddha statue inside is gigantic and awe-inspiring. We bought a small bag of food and scattered pellets into the different ponds where bright koi fish gathered in clusters, Turtles, Peacocks, wild cats rested in shaded corners, and the birds (so accustomed to visitors) ate directly out of our hands. We lit incense together and took a few quiet moments to reflect on the family members we were there to honor. Ringing the sacred bell before entering felt symbolic , like setting an intention for remembrance and gratitude. Parking is a nightmare and there is a small fee. But you will get back what you put in because it is a gentle, meaningful, and peaceful way to begin your visit should you find yourself in this side of the island.

Two weeks before my mother's funeral, Ed Puchalski from the cemetery drove us into a van in office…read morearound memorial Park. He seemed knowledgeable and detailed. He took us to the top of the hill at the inspiration sign and stated this is where they're going to set up. They told us that we weren't allowed to place flowers in the grave because they didn't want anyone to follow the casket down as they buried it. They also said that they wouldn't be setting up chairs because of the slant in the ground cause our mom and dad's grave face the Koolaus. Only the pall bearers were allowed. We asked if we could wait and they said it would be a very long time until they put the dirt on top of the plot. We printed this and placed a detailed map of the location we were taken to into the program for her funeral. We also let all the guests of the funeral know that we were unable to drop the flowers into the grave, the pall bearers weren't allowed to carry it with with the body, and allowed the guest to take the flowers. Ed Puchalski from the cemetery had both me and my sister's contact information and had been talking to us during the two weeks asking us for payment. The day of our mother's funeral they changed the location of where the chairs were set up. Instead of at the top of the hill by the inspiration sign - which is where we were taken two weeks ago. They set up the chairs at the end of the roundabout at the bottom of the hill across the field- and told no one. The entrance to this area was past the veterans area on a completely different road. There were no signs left at the location we were initially taken that notified anyone about the change location. It looked completely empty, like the burial was already done It was a place you are unable to see from the road. Only the people who knew where the burial plot was would've been able to find the burial site. The guests who did look for the burial site were forced to walk almost 200 feet across the field, downhill. Ed Puchalski from the Cemetery was at the burial where the chairs were set up. He told us we could leave flowers now. We told him that he had told us two weeks ago that we were not allowed to because of listed reasons above. We looked at all the other plots in the area and they were covered in flowers. He did not make an attempt to clear up the misunderstanding or make an apology. The pall bearers were forced to carry the casket up the hill. The metal casket with the body weighs about 400 pounds. The Mortuary had given them traditional white cotton gloves that caused a lot of slipping. The lack of foresight was very dangerous and you could see their difficulty. We were unsure of how many people missed the burial because of the location. We were also very disappointed because we didn't have the ability give her all the gifts that she was given by all the people who also came to the funeral. She was given so many flowers, and at the end of it, her gravesite looked bare. We felt like we were not able to mourn properly because of the restrictions that we were given and the change of plans that were made the day of the funeral.
