Most left bookmarkers with their names and recent releases, Sarah Chen left a magnet holder and David Putnam left a 22 caliber bullet casing with a 4 page sample of one of his books. David, we will be sure to remember you! Some rules you cannot violate. You cannot follow an author into the bathroom for an autograph, as the other gender would complain of unequal access! Went to the meet the new author's breakfast. Many of the tables were completely filled, but one author was all alone, which is where we sat. Turned out Jane Stillwell was a militant anti-Wall Street protester from Berkeley, my home town. Turns out all 13 new authors were women, as were 70% of the 460 attendees. Question came up of including maps and footnotes in mystery stories. One author remarked that most people can't read maps, at least when driving. Books about couples of widely varying ages. One author described it as penetrating relationships. A woman was asked about whether she had written any novels. Does Shades of Gray count? An author said that his wife described him as being dead when hanged, but alive and hung! LAPD -let's all pound the dude! Portland Oregon, low murder rate, but town with lots of self sufficient people -highest suicide rate in the nation. Retired crime investigator from Honolulu Police Dept talked about the real Charlie Chan, Chang Apatha. We looked at him a bit puzzled. One seminar was on opium smuggling in Hawaii, where the speaker told us why opium smokers always smoked on their side. Did you know that the founder of the Vancouver Stock Exchange previously was engaged in opium smuggling? Breakfast Jonathan Kellerman: one of each of his books on each chair. A coupon for a free book enclosed in one of the books on each table. When a few tables were empty, one lady went around checking each of the books, looking for the coupon. Turns out she was part of the committtee, and not an opportunist like my ex-wife from Hong Kong! One top of the list that you didn't want to belong on. The most books on the returned/exchanged books table. Turns out that they were Jonathan Kellerman, guest speaker and main invitee for the conference. Next was Tahoe Dark, by Todd Borg. Mainly men authors, as the audience was 70% female. Met a new author who writes my type of novels: crime story thrillers. David Putnam was introduced as highly decorated with many awards. The monitor added he assumed this was for David's work as a detective and SWAT officier, and not as an author! They had a welcome reception on the Great Lawn. Here you wanted to start from the end of the food table, which had chicken skewers and egg rolls, the only hot dishes. Final night had a banquet. Signed up by table by author, but David Putnam's table was long filled, so we sat with the rest of the steerage. Everyone had chicken or talapia at our table, but they served us a bottle of red wine. Wore shorts the entire time. Didn't want to wear my black slacks, as I'm Chinese in all Asian Hawaii, and with my deep winter tan, the conferee attendees would mistake me for part of the hired help! At the final night of the banquet, long line at the entrance with everyone being stopped. Bouncer checking id to see if people of minimum drinking age? Not in this almost exclusive senior group!

Initially I liked both Jenny Yoo Martina dress ( simple, elegant style) and then Lillian West dress ( Boho floral lace style) that Rachel brought out to try on last. But for 2nd try on appointment, Jenny Yoo dress I liked was sold before I could try it on again. Their summer sale event ( all dresses discontinued from their racks on sale, so they can make room for new dress inventory) was going to occur the following week. I knew at that moment that I needed to select Lillian West dress, as my other option since there was no other dress from racks I wanted to try on from inital appointment and this appointment. The style I liked was A line, v neck with nice dress train and not too gothic, over bling out. With that summer sale, they cannot hold inventory for customers as it first come, first served when the shop opens. I selected that Lillian west dress before it sells off the racks. Rachel honored, gave me the sale price $500 with tax. With the alterations too, cost for the dress was over $1600 with total price of just under $1,000 for both dress, dress bag and alterations together. What a steal compared to show" Say yes to the dress", all the dresses at Kleinfield cost way more and other dress shops on the island. With the fittings, seeing both the dress with wedding veil I bought from Etsy seller along with the pearl drop earrings from Amazon, image of me as bride was stunning and made me feel like I'm ready to say I do. Masako held onto the dress until day before my December wedding as I was nervous if my cats destroy my dress happiness. I got many compliments from friends, family and my husband's co-workers who thought that dress was beautiful along with make up, hair style I had done. Very glad I went with Masako and genuinely recommend to future and engaged gals to come here if you are budget friendly shopper as the managers will work with your budget and provide recommendations. After Borders closed, we don't have many places to go to buy brand new books except for Walmart or Target. However, there are many good finds here and a chance to give some used books/media/toys a new home. The staff here are very nice, though of course they don't have a system catalog here. But that's part of the fun, the treasure hunting fun. You never know what you may find. Bookoff also has a buyback counter, where you can sell your used movies, books, etc. but just be aware they are like the old saying where they only offer pennies on the dollar. So you won't make a lot of money selling here. But if you just want to get rid of stuff and make some money, this may be a good option for you.

Super professional, super smooth. Here's the best part: while I was waiting, I browsed around and found three gifts for my grandchildren that I knew they'd love. So in one trip I freed up a ton of space at home from books that had been taking up way too much room and knocked out some gift shopping. Win-win-win! The whole setup is easy too -- rolled the carts right from my car into the store, no stress. My friend was chillin' in the massage chair outside the whole time, so nobody's time was wasted. Indoor seating is gone. There used to be a lot of space that added a lot to the ambiance and made ChadLou's feel like a cozy place to enjoy a coffee. Without it, the atmosphere just doesn't feel the same anymore.
