I loved the initial experience of picking my dress. Both Rachel and Olivia were really awesome in helping me decide on my first dress. Unfortunately there were issues with the first dress I chose and we had to pick a second dress. It was a very difficult process and it was an emotional experience. I will say that Olivia worked hard to ensure I was taken care of by the end of it all. Ultimately the second dress worked out well and I felt good on my day which was the most importantly part. My experience with Masako Bridal was smooth sailing from first try on, thru fitting/alterations to dress pick up. Olivia and Rachel helped me thru the process. It took total of 5 appointments and dress pick up. Initially I liked both Jenny Yoo Martina dress ( simple, elegant style) and then Lillian West dress ( Boho floral lace style) that Rachel brought out to try on last. But for 2nd try on appointment, Jenny Yoo dress I liked was sold before I could try it on again. Their summer sale event ( all dresses discontinued from their racks on sale, so they can make room for new dress inventory) was going to occur the following week. I knew at that moment that I needed to select Lillian West dress, as my other option since there was no other dress from racks I wanted to try on from inital appointment and this appointment. The style I liked was A line, v neck with nice dress train and not too gothic, over bling out. With that summer sale, they cannot hold inventory for customers as it first come, first served when the shop opens. I selected that Lillian west dress before it sells off the racks. Rachel honored, gave me the sale price $500 with tax. With the alterations too, cost for the dress was over $1600 with total price of just under $1,000 for both dress, dress bag and alterations together. What a steal compared to show" Say yes to the dress", all the dresses at Kleinfield cost way more and other dress shops on the island. With the fittings, seeing both the dress with wedding veil I bought from Etsy seller along with the pearl drop earrings from Amazon, image of me as bride was stunning and made me feel like I'm ready to say I do. Masako held onto the dress until day before my December wedding as I was nervous if my cats destroy my dress happiness. I got many compliments from friends, family and my husband's co-workers who thought that dress was beautiful along with make up, hair style I had done. Very glad I went with Masako and genuinely recommend to future and engaged gals to come here if you are budget friendly shopper as the managers will work with your budget and provide recommendations. Ive Been to Masako a handful of times now both to try dresses, and for alterations. The service was good for our first visit, although I did feel a little overwhelmed. Kaylyn helped us, and she is truly a fantastic hype woman. Although I didn't buy a dress from them, I did feel like I was able to wrap my head around what look I was going for during that session, and when I ended up buying a second hand dress, I returned for alterations...because what better place to go than a bridal shop? I did a total of 3 subsequent fittings which were all about 30 min. I had a different stylist working with me every time I came in, but all were incredibly friendly and gave helpful feedback for storing, wearing and styling my dress. The cost for adding a bustle, taking in the sides and adding lace detail was quite affordable in my opinion, and they were kind enough to store my dress for like 9 months, despite me not having bought it from their store. Worst Bridal Appointment ever I never write reviews but something has to be said. A friend that I will call bride for her privacy and I recently went to an appointment booked at Masako Bridal we arrived early because we were excited it was the first place we had made an appointment for the bride and the dresses looked beautiful. Upon arriving the woman helping us seemed not friendly but that was fine maybe she had a bad day, but as we continued through the appointment her attitude and expression was rude and unkind that the bride was very upset and so was I. As a former bride and bridesmaid I have been to bridal appointments and the lady helping us not only did not smile or say congratulations once, she did not offer any clamps to get the proper fitting or a veil to try on with her dress. I specifically asked if they had clamps for the dresses but she said they couldn't because of the material. But for any of the dresses? I see review photos of other ladies having their dresses clamped here. From the looks of the reviews on the shop it looks like we didn't get the usual service that is provided and it sucks that the first time the bride tried on dresses she was treated so poorly and didn't even get a bit of a smile or excitement at all. I have attached the photos of the woman's expression as the bride is trying on the dress you can clearly see by her posture and facial expression that she was not happy to help us. Mind you I was not taking pics of the employee! I was trying to get photos of my bride and when I looked back at the photos saw these. I would never recommend anyone to a place where an employee treats a new bride like that. Found Masako Bridal through a friend and throughout the process of planning a wedding, buying a dress was the thing I was dreading. But the team at Masako helped a lot with making me comfortable and were very reassuring, often giving good tips about finding the right dress. I worked a lot with Olivia and Rachel. At one point, Casablanca sent use the wrong veil about 1 month or so before my wedding and the team at Masako fought TOOTH AND NAIL to ensure it was delivered express, 2 weeks before the day, and for no extra expense to me. Thanks to the team here, I felt extremely comfortable on my wedding day (as someone who is not a fan of dresses or attention!!) in the dress and veil they helped me choose! The process included about 7 visits which included 1 initial visit, 1 follow up to pick the dress, and the rest were alterations/final fittings. Easy peasy, stress free for me honestly. PARKING: They say it in their first emails to you, but parking is best found across the street at Whole Foods. I never had an issue with this during the months visiting Masako. PRICING: The team was great about finding a dress that still stayed in-budget after alterations were factored in. They are salaried and not paid through commissions, so they are not hell-bent on sending you home with the most expensive dress in stock. Honestly, a huge relief. There were a lot of alteration since I'm petite but the process was not bad at all. All the ladies that worked there were amazing and helpful. I purchased dress from a different shop, on a different island, months before my February wedding. It arrived and they began alterations. The dress became something that I did not feel good, happy, joyous, beautiful in. I could not breath in it, and I could NOT walk down the aisle in it. (aka they ruined it) for me. By the time I realized that they were not going to be able to fix this dress I was only 20 days away from the wedding. TWENTY DAYS. Can you feel the panic? I immediately started looking for dresses online that were ready to ship. And, I started looking at bridal shops on Oahu. When I found that Masako carried Jenny Yoo - and that they were the oldest shop on Oahu - I scheduled their next available appointment and I sent a message explaining my delimma. I had no clue whether they would be able to help because, well, TWENTY DAYS! Let me tell you the wave of comfort that followed that message is something special. They responded quickly and assured me that they would be able to help me find something I love. They offered options like purchasing off of the floor and even mentioned a rental option. They texted back and forth a bit to get an idea of what I was looking for before the last minute appointment. They immediately made me feel like I was in the best hands! And, as you can see by the photos - SUCCESS! I went to the appointment in the beautiful boutique. It was so private! No additional customers walking around. Kaylyn + Maddy pulled the perfect dresses for me. Kaylyn could see me trying to facetime mom and sis - no problem! She grabs a tri-pod and sets my phone up. They were empathetic, compassionate, and felt like sisters helping a sister out! And, of course they pulled THE ONE! I purchased it off the floor, and their seamstress came out and pinned and measured me on the spot. I returned a week later to a dress that fit perfectly, fell perfectly with my shoes on, and, most importantly, I could breath in! Haha - but seriously, I felt like a queen in that dress! What a crazy happy ending Masako Bridal gave me! Also, their service didn't end when I walked out with the dress. They were available by text to answer any questions I had. They advised me on what to do and what not to do. For example, not to get it dry cleaned, but spot clean. Get a good steam in before putting it on. Came here back in September to look for my wedding dress, I was determined to get my dress here because of my budget. I wanted to get a dress for no more than $1200. Although there are other bridal shops on the island, I didn't want to go over board on an expensive dress. I went to my first appointment to look and try on dresses with two of my close friends and my mother. I was pretty nervous going in but right when I stepped into their store the lady working (sorry I don't remember her name) welcomed us in like we were family. (My initial thought after the appointment was like wow this lady is really good at her job and customer service ). She led us the the fitting room and she picked out some dresses based off my budget and what style I was looking for. I also picked out some and I was getting a little worried because I couldn't find a dress that I really loved... Until the last dress I tried on and I found the dress I wore to my wedding. The price was $1200 but the lady helping me said it was the last of its design and that the designer wasn't going to be making anymore. I was so sad until she told me that since it's the last dress and it's the display dress that I could have it for $600!! Basically 50 percent off of course I took that deal! So I bought the dress and scheduled my second appointment for the alterations because the dress was quite too big for me and they had to cinch in the chest part. For my second appointment I went with my two cousins that weren't able to make it to my wedding because they live on the mainland. They helped me get a second opinion in with the alterations. I went back after this for my third appointment to try on my dress with the new alterations and everything was all good. I left that day with my dress! All together with the original price of the dress and the alterations, I spent about $900 in total. I have not found my wedding dress yet...but I feel like I just need to write this review to get it off my chest. I cannot believe this place has been in business since 1977 and is still going. I scheduled an appt at 4 PM on a Saturday for wedding dress fitting and they close at 5 PM. I was about 10 mins late to my appointment. Location: this place was so hard to find. They do not have a parking lot and the store is located in a tuck away alley. When I saw the shop storefront, I was hesitant to enter as it does not feel like a professional bridal dress shop. The shop is so tiny and cramp. There is not even a professional fitting room for you to try on the dress. There is only two mirrors (one front and one side). A normal bridal dress shop will have at least a back mirror for you to see the back of your dress. There was no stool for you to stand on top. It feels worst than a Macy fitting dress. Dress selections: The dresses they had me tried on were all so oversized. How am I supposed to IMAGINE how I will look in the RIGHT size when the sample on me is like 3X larger than my size. So limiting dress selections. I was so surprised how little dress options there were. I only tried on like 5 dresses and did not come close to liking any of them. Service: I think the worst part is the service. After I put on each dress, the assistant was not even there for me to zip it up. How am I supposed to do it myself? My sister who was with me had to zip it up for me. When it was around 5:05PM, they started to kick us out by saying that they do close exactly at 5 PM. It sounded like they don't even care about doing business. It is unavoidable that people do go overtime for wedding dress fitting. Especially if you are a last minute bride like myself. ;) I came in here ~3 weeks before my wedding unsure what I was going to wear and Maddy helped me SO much. I priced many places to get a dress I bought online altered to fit me better and they by far had the best prices! They also had options to rent. Since I was unsure about the dress I bought online and didn't do too much looking I came here. Often you go to bridal stores and they are pushy, trying to upsell you, or the WORST spend way too much time talking about "Oh don't gain weight" or other body shaming that I am not into! Masako is the complete opposite of this and gave me best bridal experience. They truly care. Maddy was so kind, patient and helpful. She took me under her wing and gave honest advice! She also hyped me up unlike some of the dress try on horror stories I have heard of. I appreciated her help so much. I also rented a beautiful long veil and they did an excellent job tailoring my dress to my body so I felt confident & comfortable on my wedding day! They also have a beautiful Pearl veil (see pic) that I almost rented ahh but went for the more plain. The pearl veil is soooo cute and wayyy cheaper to rent. I wouldn't go anywhere else! I first chose to go to Masako bridal solely due to the fact that they are the only place I could find that will rent wedding dresses. I unfortunately never ended up buying or renting a dress from them, but their customer service was THE BEST I could've asked for. The woman who helped me was extremely nice and understanding. They have a smaller selection, but the staff is really good about explaining what you're wearing and why or why it does not work well with your body type. They really take your opinions into account. The woman I worked with was really good about asking what part of the dress I did not like and giving suggestions to fix it or using that information to pick out other dresses that I might like better. My budget was around $1000 which is considered a little low I think, but she was willing to work with me to make it as close to my budget as possible. I ended up not buying a dress here, and went to Casablanca next. My experience at Casablanca was ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS, and it made me really value the staff at Masako for their customer service, professionalism, and vast knowledge of wedding dresses. I ended up also going to one more place before finding a dress, but I would 20 out of 10 recommend anyone to go here FIRST rather than anywhere else. Masako was GREAT!! read more

Now... it's MY turn to find a wedding dress! Boy, oh boy, Masako was one of my top places to go! Because I had a great experience with my friend's wedding dress shopping, I knew I had to make an appointment here. They're located on Queen Street across the street from Whole Foods. I parked in the Whole Foods parking lot (maybe the 4th or 5th floor) and took the elevator down. CAUTION: the elevator takes a while... so it might seem faster to take a walk through Whole Foods :) This was my first time at this location. Luckily, Masako has a banner on the building. It's a bit tricky... walk down the driveway and there will be two doors at the end with the sign "MASAKO." Go to the first door - closest to Queen Street, but if you're like me, I went through the second door. A woman gently guided me to the correct door. Haha. Oops! Anyways, I came to my appointment a bit early and thankfully, there wasn't anyone there. I forgot the name of the woman that helped me. She was very helpful, friendly, and easy-going. I showed her a picture from their website and prayed to the wedding gods that they'll have it. Because I didn't know if it was discontinued or not. There was ONE left! She provided me with different selections as well that I loved. It was a difficult choice. There were lots of headpiece selections. She added shoes and a veil to make the look come together. Well, the only downside is that I found my dress right away. I wanted to keep shopping since I had so much fun! I went during the sample sale in 2022. I went on Saturday and it was BUSY! I tried on some dresses and left, giving others a chance to get in there! I went back the next day at the end of the day since I had some time to kill and it was very quiet! That's when I found my gown! It was $300 and turned out perfectly, I'm obsessed with it. I had my alterations done in shop and they were easy and affordable. I was jumping around by the end of the reception and everything was "held in" beautifully! It was such a great dress!! Everyone was so nice in this shop. When one of my very good couple friends got engaged in October of 2021, they had initially started to plan for a traditional style wedding; you know, starting with an engagement party, followed by picking of bridal party then months of meticulous planning with some bachelor/bachelorette parties in between then the special day, a ceremony surrounded by loved ones, a million pictures then a ($$$) reception to follow. To start off, she was assigned a stylist for a one-on-one, whereas a certain other chain bridal store in Pearl City had a single stylist for more than a handful of brides. Our stylist was Maddy, who began the appointment by asking for a sheet to be filled out with various style questions so she could get an idea of the type of dress my friend was looking for. After pulling a few styles off the racks, she asked for opinions on those before having her try them on while she went and pulled a few more styles based on that feedback. I really loved how much attention to detail the Masako team put into finding the PERFECT dress while being so fluid in the conversation. It was as if we knew Maddy personally and we were friends for years! She had us laughing with little quips and side remarks. Our hour-ish appointment went by so quickly, with saying "YES" to the dress after looking at about a dozen or so. I might be the only guy writing a review here, but I don't mind expanding my horizons! Planning a wedding isn't easy because there are a lot of details that need attention. Our coordinator suggested the first thing to do was to go dress hunting because of the time it takes to order and adjust. She gave us many places, and after some Yelp research of my own, Masako seemed like a good place to start. I called and left a message in the morning to schedule an appointment, but they never got back me. I went to Bijou and seen Masako was just around the corner, one block away. Masako is located on Cooke and Kawaihao St. They have their own parking lot, entering from Kawaihao St. We didn't have an appointment and just walked in at 130, and we were able to get an appointment at 300pm, which worked out perfectly since we didn't have lunch yet. Zoe helped us and she was great. Very friendly, patient, and courteous. The dresses here have a lot more variety and more typical sizes. I told her exactly what I was looking for in a dress, and she was attentive and quick with bringing back some options. The very first dress that she had me try on was spot on my style. That told me that Maddy was definitely my girl and knew exactly the look I wanted. I was excited and hopeful for the dresses to come and it shifted my mood entirely-giving me all the feels a happy bride should have. I had a couple choices I fell in love with, each having its own charming things about them. But it came down to ONE that I knew I'd be able to create the exact look I've been dreaming of! If you need a welcoming place to try on dresses, this is the place that you want to go. Friendly staff and caters to you and gives the best advice. Their dresses are affordable and beautiful. I do not doubt that any bride could find their dream dress here. I have been in twice. Once to try on, the second was to decide between my final two and purchase. Not only did I find my dress, but they were so helpful in deciding. When I couldn't decide, they kept me in both dresses and we were just talking. Little did I know, she was keeping me in both dresses long enough to see which one I was most comfortable in. This made the decision so easy and so helpful. This visit for: Bridesmaid dresses An appointment was made and the appointment was kept. Probably the best thing about this place. The last place we went to didn't acknowledge our appointment time, no one helped us, and us girls were literally trying on dresses outside the fitting rooms (despite having made an appointment). Thank you Masako Formals! For not overbooking clients, for acknowledging our appointment time, and for providing so many fitting rooms to manage a large bridal court. The experience was a lot better here. Although there was only one person attending to all 7 of us, we were able to get what wanted, get fitted, and order everything all in an orderly fashion and under an hour. My cousin, the bride-to-be was so happy and grateful. We all ended up getting the same dress in different sizes. What makes the dress unique is that it has straps attached to the bottom half, in which you use to make a 1 or 2 strap dress. read more

They would've received two stars had it not been for the last appointment that my friend had. My recently married friend had such a terribly unprofessional experience with this place. But we (the bridesmaids) knew that the dress she purchased was the one and really supported her through this difficulties she experienced with Masako's services. The first day she tried on THE dress, the girl (didn't get her name) seemed super helpful. But we wanted to do a little more shopping around so we noted the dress and went on our way. Eventually my friend scheduled a second fitting, this time with her mom present so she could say YES to the dress. But when she went in to try on the dress, which was noted upon making the appointment, they informed her that it was rented out. DING 1: Why wouldn't they have informed her beforehand?! So she was taken aback but rescheduled. At this time, there was a special that my girl wanted to take advantage of, a little percentage off the price of the dress. She was ready to say purchase. Because of the her experience during her last visit, she decided to call a few days before her 3rd appointment to make sure the dress was there and not still rented out. They informed her that it was at the cleaners and would not be ready for her appointment. DING 2: Again, why wouldn't they have informed her?! Why was it her responsibility to call and see if it was there?! By this point, we were all furious. All of us, the bridesmaids continued supporting her as she considered settling on other dresses because the other boutiques were responsive and communicative. Pretty sad in my opinion that they made this bride lose faith that she'd get her dress of her dreams. Appointment 4: My friend FINALLY gets to try the dress on with her mom present. Of course with no time to waste with Masako, she made the purchase. When asked if they would honor the special (which was no longer applicable) since she was trying to purchase on her second visit, they told her no. DING 3: So, how is it HER fault that she missed the special when THEY didn't have the dress?! By this point we were fuming but just wanted her to get the dress and be DONE with them. Appointment 5: Dress arrives, my girl does a fitting to figure out the alterations. The girl who is working that day is stepping all over the train. Barefoot, but still! This isn't a SAMPLE dress. How thoughtless! DING 4! Appointment 6: why are there SO many appointments to secure a dress?! Dress and veil are in. My friend expects to take her dress home. But they tell her that while the alterations are complete, they need to finish the bustle. DING 5: Again! Why was this not communicated to her beforehand?! The lack of setting up client expectations at this point is unreal and so laughable. And not to mention, there was a pin left in the dress that scratched my friend. DING 6!!!! Appointment 7: We finally got to assist our girl in trying her dress on in its final stage and make sure she could LEAVE with it. We were ready to give the employee a piece of our minds after my friend left. But this girl who had never worked with my friend before was so pleasant and sweet. She's the only employee that saved the day. Honestly! So if you're looking for a boutique that lacks in communication and care for you or someone you know that is getting married, go elsewhere. - 7 appointments to secure a dress, is a joke. - If they rent your dress out during a special, don't expect to see them honoring or extending the discount even if they're the ones who inconvenienced you. - I'm pretty sure you don't want someone stomping around on your brand new white dress - or potentially get stabbed by a pin that the seamstress forgot to remove - Lastly, it's like pulling teeth getting on a call with them... don't bother read more

I went to a couple of locations to look at wedding dresses in person. I didn't end up selecting a dress from Masako Formals, but I really wanted to. Location: located on Queen Street diagonally from the Whole Foods parking lot. I actually parked in Whole Foods and walked over. It was a little tricky to find. After exiting from Whole Foods, Masako is about a 3-minute walk on the opposite side of the Whole Foods parking structure. There is a sign for Masako Formals on the wall. I wish I took a picture. You have to walk up a narrow step staircase after being buzzed in. Bathroom: unknown. Dresses: there were many styles of dresses to choose from, but not a large selection. There was even a black gown that reminded me of something Maleficent would wear. Service: Reagan was very professional. She had me fill out a client profile so she could record my top choices. I took a picture (not posted) of it after. It was a really good reference. She was attentive and pulled dresses from the showroom that matched my vision. Trust me, I didn't really have one, but she nailed my style down quickly. Depending on the dress, Masako did offer rush orders. They also provide dress preservation. I wished I could have conversed with them via e-mail more, but it didn't seem like an option. Phone was difficult for me because I worked all day. COVID: they seemed to take the pandemic situation seriously. I was asked to sanitize my hands upon entry and was required to wear a mask. Reagan also wore a mask. I rarely leave reviews on Yelp but for this I needed too. So I found Masako Bridal by googling them. I was inquiring to rent a bridal dress for my wedding day. Everything went well with trying on the dresses. The shop was really cute and intimate and I was really digging it. Kayla was my stylist she was really nice, helpful, friendly, and fun. That same day my stylist Kayla and I found my perfect dress. I got home and put a down payment and was scheduled for a fitting. So as for the fitting they canceled on my the night before sending me an email after hours saying that their person who does the fitting is sick. Y'all need more than one person doing the fitting for times like this. The next morning I wait till they are open to give them a call to see what is exactly going on. I have tried call them literally over 20 times. They keep dodging my calls and no call backs. I also try emailing them and again nothing. To me that is unprofessional and bad business. I loved my experience at Masako Bridal! The space really surprised me by being bigger than expected (but still cozy) and the girls were unbelievably warm and welcoming. I had a not so great experience at Bijou Bridal before coming here, so I was a bit nervous. The girls at Masako made my nerves go away really quickly and to date it's the only good experience I've had so far shopping for a wedding dress (I tried basically all the bridal shops on island).
