Came here with my boyfriend on a Friday night. We were greeted by a bartender/waitress who was very sweet. We only intended to get a drink but ended up staying to eat as well. As sweet as the bartender was, unfortunately we could not understand each other due to the language barrier. I ordered chicken tacos with a side of tostones. The portion sizes were more than enough, I was pleased. Tostones were good. The chicken in the tacos were over cooked. My boyfriend got the sausage burrito and he loved it! Service was terrible, after receiving our food our server never came back to check in. We had to go to the bar to finally get our check. I've been to this bar many times, it has a decent menu. Of the the few items I had all were good. The tacos are real good. If your going to eat here I recommend luch or early dinner as this place turnes into a sausage fest from after work hours till closing. This is a typical Newark hoochie bar. Theirs about 20 female bar tenders, all trying to weasel shots out of you at 10$ a pop. Most a fairly pretty ( actually meet my GF here)...lol. you can blow through cash at this place if your not careful. All that being said overall if your a guy and into loud Spanish music, (which i'm not ) lol, and like Spanish girls ( which i do)..then this is your hangout. WORST PLACE EVER!!! I grew up in the ironbound and know all the restaurants, this place is new and decided to try it out with my husband. HORRIBLE!! When we walked in it sounded like a sweet sixteen party was going on. Music blasting with cheap *** speakers! It's 9:00pm and this is a restaurant, who the heck is dancing?! It was a c*** party. Only one waiter who tried his best, we ordered margaritas which tasted like cheap frozen drinks. The so called DJ was a** and tried sounding like a DJ from 97.9 la mega. We didn't order food b/c we couldn't take how loud it was, Clubs are louder and sound better. STAY AWAY DON'T COME HERE !!! Ordered guacamole, beef tacos, and chixken quesadia. The guac came out with warm chips and was delightful so i was optimistic. The sweetheart waitress then delivered the rest of the food. I requested sour cream and hot sauce. She brought ranch dressing not to her fault but prr the cooks instruction. I obviously knew immediately what it was and ignored to to try the food.. The beef was extra chewy like it was precooked frozen defrosted and warmed in a microwave. This began to make me sick to my stomach so i stopped eatting. When i requested to speak to the cook i as informed he was to busy to talk to me, which was odd because no one else was eatting. I then requested to see the health inspection records from the manager, she asked "who am i to ask that". Im thinking about calling the inspector to make sure they can serve food. One of the worst experiences ever. When entering the establishment I was not greeted. Once I said hello to 3 members of the staff that was standing outside the bar, 2 of them walked away without saying anything and the one that did respond said hello as she walked away. Never giving eye contact. I figured, there must be a language barrier, maybe they didn't understand me. I mean learning to greet someone or even understanding a greeting is pretty standard no matter where you are. It's kind of the first thing you learn when learning a new language. But hey, maybe my expectation were too high, at least I thought so at the time. From time to time, the staff whispered and chuckled and would even glance at me while doing this. (About the only time I did get eye contact lol) It made me feel uncomfortable for a second but I figured, I live in this community and no one is going to make me uncomfortable in my community. All in all, it was a terrible experience and despite the disservice, I was overcharged. The nerve right lol. I could only laugh about the situation and when I asked the bartender why my bill was so high, of course she had to grab someone who spoke English, which is fine. I mean, I felt within my right to question this especially when I was not given a itemized receipt. They literally gave me a dupe pad with the number 70 on it lol. When who seemed to be a manager arrived she was very short and dismissive with me and told me that this was my bill. To add insult to injury, she was also accompanied by the bouncer. Idk I guess you can say I was a gluten for punishment on that night. I was given every hint to just leave but I just figured if the staff got to know me, and saw that I was someone who lived in the community and would be a regular, they would you know, be welcoming lol. This is one of the worst places I have been in my entire life. I have never been mistreated as much as I was at this establishment. I just moved into the neighborhood, my boyfriend and I went to have a drink here, as the bar/restaurant is one block away from our house. When we first arrived, there were no customers,but about six workers and NO ONE greeted us. We ordered one round of drinks for the two of us, which was hard to do because only one person spoke English, it seems. When we were almost done, I asked for the bill and the server said $10. I asked if it was for both the drinks my boyfriend and I had ordered and the ONE person that spoke English said YES!. We ordered two rounds after that and when we asked for the final bill, the owner ( that NEVER came over to greet us once or even announce herself) gave us a bill of $70. This is clearly not the correct math for three rounds of drinks at $5 each and when we questioned it, they called the security guard. We paid our bill in full with tip but I will never go back there and I hope other people do not patronize to it, as well. When you go out to eat or have drinks, you should have a good time and owners and employees should be able to communicate effectively to its customers. The neighborhood that the bar/ lounge is in is a gentrifying neighborhood. It is important to know that lack of communication and inability to communicate (due to a language barrier) is not progressive for business. This is one of the worst places ever! I have ordered two cans of soda and gave more than 100% tip! and went to the restroom and when came back my seat was taken by another customer. so I sat on a different chair. then out of no were 2 employees (security) approached me and requested me to leave! after I asked for explanation he said I didn't order nothing. I got up to my original table and showed him my 2 cans that i bought! he still requested me to leave!!! I asked to talk to a manager and there was no response! The WORST ever place !!! Horrible place. Lied about playing the Mayweather Pac fight for hours, they couldn't find the channel... walked out at 11. They couldn't reach the owner... Waiters/bartenders buy themselves shots on your tab, which are actually just water and pretend like they're getting drunk. They're charging those at $10 each. The place looks decent and that's it. Only one star because Yelp doesn't allow zero stars. This is one of the, if not the, worst places I've ever been. We ordered two margaritas on the rocks. We received a drink not even all the way full in the glass with no ice (drink was warm), and had barely any tequila. It was all sugar water. We were optimistic about the food. I ordered the chicken tacos while my friend ordered the chicken burrito. Four tacos came out. They had zero taste- tasted what I imagine cardboard would taste like. No sauce or anything. My friend's burrito had a slime-like coating to the chicken. Interestingly, everything cost exactly $10 as the bill for two margaritas, chicken tacos, and a chicken burrito was $40. We asked to pay with card to which they said they charge an extra 7% of the bill to use a card. There were a ton of workers at the bar who were all standing around. We most certainly won't be visiting again. Hell's Kitchen across the street, although a dive bar, has MUCH better food, drinks, service, and prices! read more
