I'm a Realtor and am particular with vendor selection in general after seeing so many horror stories when homeowners are penny wise but dollar foolish. The "ficus fig" tree in our yard is HUGE, a show stopper. The canopy can reach 50 feet across every few years and it's on a slope. Verification of license of insurance a must for this job. Alonzo sent this promptly. Alonzo was the most professional of the 3 companies that I contacted. He responded quickly, communicated clearly via text, and scheduled a visit to see our tree then later to do the work. He showed up on time both days, knows trees. He was flexible when I had a change due to holiday company. They have a nice chipper truck and set up in front of our home with tarps, cones. Extra credit for tidiness. Two guys got geared up with serious safety equipment and climbed in the tree like monkeys. They HAND PRUNED (I did not expect this) for 7 hours, lacing it beautifully. All 3 guys cleaned up the yard very well. Alonzo stayed through the day, removing fallen branches to the chipper truck and asked me for feedback after the trimmers took 6 feet off the top vs the 8-10 we had discussed. I had a GREAT experience with this company. My parents' property had a lot of overgrown foliage from all the rain this past winter, and  the larger trees haven't been tended to since they moved in 30+ years ago.  With the upcoming fire season, I wanted the backyard to be cleaned up. Ricardo came out the day after I placed an inquiry on Yelp to give me an estimate.  We set up a day for them to come out. Ricardo and his crew arrived, confirmed the work to be done, and completed it.  I was really impressed with their work. They even cleaned up the mess left by a previous tree service company my dad had hired last year to remove a dead tree. The team was super responsive and came out the next day to provide a quote. They were flexible in dates and I was able to schedule an appointment quickly. We had a camphor tree removed three years ago (different company) and it kept coming back. The team was able to lift the turf and remove the roots. I cannot be any higher in my praise of Alonzo and his crew! Their bid was half the quotes I'd gotten, he is bonded and insured (very important to me) and they were on time, efficient and willing to do additional trimming of a bush at a very reasonable cost. The tree in the front yard that they removed was thoroughly excavated and the ground returned to normal. I asked for a thick heavy branch to be removed and they treated the wound after cutting. I am having more thinning done now that the weather is cooler (they came on the hottest day of August...ugh!) and have him remove more branches. Sent Alonzo a text message to connect and we set an appointment the next day for a visit to get a quote. Alonzo was on time for our appointment, and I showed him the trees in my backyard hill I needed to have removed. It was a pretty large job to remove a few large eucalyptus and cut back-shape a couple other trees. Alonzo explained exactly how he would do the job, and be careful to protect my fences and concrete decking, and cover the side of my house and windows with plywood and tarps. He quoted the time he felt it would take, two days and the price. I chose Alonzo's Tree Service because he was thoughtful in his explanation and his quote, while not the lowest I have ever seen, he was fairly priced since he has a contractor license, and the proper insurance, which he provided proof of prior to starting the job. I was impressed his team all had and wore safety equipment and worked quickly, but safely. His team was very focused and hardworking. They were respectful of our yard and the neighbors. They showed up on time each morning and did the entire job as described and agreed in the proposal. They really did an outstanding job of cleaning up the yard and the street out front afterward and it looked cleaner than before they showed up. Alonzo's put a flyer on our door and we ended up keeping it for some reason. A few weeks go by and my husband decided to call to get an estimate. We had 3 trees we needed to take down 2 liquid ambers and a fruitless mulberry. He came out to give us a quote and he came in below the other estimates. He is also licensed, bonded and insured. We have five Pepper Bark Melaleucas that require periodic trimming. Alonzo and his crew trimmed these trees better and more professionally than any other service I have used for 30 years. In the past, many tree services just trimmed using chain saws almost exclusively. Alonzo and his crew trimmed much by hand and used chain saws sparingly.
