Aloy Thai has a very suburban vibe to me. Upscale but like the nice place in the strip mall by your parents' house. Not a bad thing, necessarily. Just a thing. The spring rolls were like an oasis in the desert after walking around the Boulder Art Festival on a very sunny day in July. They were packed with herbs and veggies and the peanut sauce really is exceptional. Perfectly balanced to my taste. I knew I wanted mango sticky rice so I kept the entree light and got a cup of tom yum soup with tofu. This too was packed with an impressive amount of veg and protein. The flavor was nice but it was veeeeery salty so I left most of the broth behind. Finally time for dessert. I would have ordered it anyway but when the server said "the mangos are so perfect today" I was fully locked in. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint. The mango was indeed fresh and perfect. The rice was super sticky but not gummy and was soaked with a perfectly sweet coconut sauce. I like a lot of coconut sauce so I could have done with more but it was very delicious regardless. I first tried Aloy at an event in Denver and really liked it. I knew there was a branch location in Boulder for years but since it is not downtown where I do know many restaurants on Pearl and can get the on my own by bus since I no longer have good vision for driving, I need a car ride for this spot. We tried it this evening and liked it a lot. I see why it is so popular. But do know they do not have identical menu items to the Denver locations. This fact did cause me to be disappointed when one of the items arrived at the table. My husband loved it though, as he is a big fan of cream cheese which I am not. I only eat items like NY cheesecake and on bagels with lox. What I wanted to try was the roasted duck dumpling but got the fried wonton with cream cheese and duck. It had a good sauce as well as a slice of mango and a pinch of pea shoots on the top. I do love baby pea shoots and though not what I envisioned, I did eat my portion. The shrimp spring rolls were some of the best I have had in a while. I had a hot oolong tea and my husband had a Thai tea. We both liked our drinks which were exactly as we expected. We also had a "small" plate of bbq chicken which was hardly a small thing. A large tasty section of chicken on a bed of lettuce with a side of shredded carrot and cabbage with a very nice sauce. It was perfect for my husband but as I am not allowed chicken skin, it was harder to eat but tasty. Such a bigger serving than we expected, we brought enough home for lunch tomorrow. The staff were friendly, helpful yet not intrusive. The setting was perfect for me and for all as the variety of styles allow for accommodating any needs. Pricing was average for Boulder and more than worth it. We will be back and try more items. Often have lunch with a friend who drives and it will be perfect for that this summer. read more

This place was right across the street from our hotel and we figured we'd give it a try on a cold and rainy day in Boulder and we loved it! I tried the chef's special of Bison Khao Soi and it was a flavor bomb with tender chunks of bison throughout. I ordered hot spice level and it wasn't very spicy. We arrived during happy hour so ordered the pork egg rolls (3 piece) thin flaky pastry stuffed with ground pork, cabbage, carrots, and woonsen noodle, deep fried with sweet and sour sauce and crab wontons (4 piece) cream cheese and crab meat stuffed in wonton shell served with sweet and sour sauce. The pork egg rolls were crispy on the outside with a generous, tasty filling, perfectly fried and not greasy. The crab wontons were a highlight, light, crunchy, and packed with creamy filling, paired nicely with a sweet dipping sauce. I ordered the BBQ chicken entree that is marinated and grilled and served with spicy tamarind or sweet and sour sauce. It came with so many fresh veggies and I loved the tamarind sauce so much I had to order extra. The BBQ chicken was tender and well-seasoned with a slightly smoky, savory-sweet taste that really stood out. Service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable, great for a relaxed meal without feeling rushed. I honestly wish I would have tried more items out! I got the basil fried rice with added chicken and it was amazing! The portion size was larger but smaller than I expected for a Thai place. Flavors were amazing all around, I was a bit worried about the bell peppers and if they were going to be undercooked but I was so wrong and should have never doubted for a second! The place is nice and quaint, it was right across the street from my hotel so super easy to walk to and I absolutely will be trying more items out again. Potentially the red curry!! read more

I came to Boulder for a nice and quick vacay (and also to check out the routes for the Boulder Marathon in September - I signed up to do the half). For dinner, I decided to visit AloyI hadn't realized they were featured in Guy Fieri's DDD - I must have missed that episode and I need to look it up now to watch it. I ordered the spring rolls, a cup of Tom Yum soup, and the bison khao soi. The spring roll came out quickly and tasted fresh. The peanut dipping sauce was fire! It has the typical Thai flavor - sweet, sour, salty, spicy. One of the best dipping sauce I've had. Then the soup came out. The soup was a little thicker than what I am used to, and the flavor is also a little heavier. I missed the tomatoes that I am accustomed to seeing in this soup, but it still had good flavor. The khao soi is a little thinner than I am used to, but, again, the sauce had good flavor. The bison was extremely tender. The decor was nice and the restaurant had a good vibe. It was a little busy but everyone was attended to with care. I appreciate the fact that this is a women-owned restaurant. Who knows, maybe I'll come back tomorrow for another meal! Update. Some new specials you can't miss. First this place is amazing. All my out of town guests always make a request to go here when they are in town. This is really special Thai and worth a trip. They currently have a Khoa Soi Bison special. Michelin has a category of "worth making a trip for" and this falls in that category. Think a creamy broth y curry like starter with thick noodles topped with a ball of fried noodles for texture and big hunks of tender bison. We ordered Crying Tiger (soo delicious, but could've used more spice), Pad Thai w/ chicken (loved it), and a curry soup with tofu, and chicken fried rice (generous portion!). We also tried some edamame pot stickers (we weren't a fan of them, but might've just been a personal preference thing, idk). The food was delicious. The spice level was pretty mild. I'd go up a spice level when ordering here. I'm not one for very spicy, but a little kick is kind of expected with Thai; it wasn't there. Four of us ate lunch. The total for the above dishes was $100. We might try other places to find equally great food, but with better prices. It was delicious though! Staff was friendly and attentive. Aloy/Aroy in Thai, means tasty. The food here was pretty good! The service was... meh. Could've been much better. The food was good and I'd eat here again. Thai is my favorite cuisine on the planet and I eat it several times a week as I travel for business all over the world. The inside was bright orange walls, with pine trim and red cushions making the atmosphere feel lively, which was the antithesis of the level and care of the servers and service. Everything we ordered was delicious and filled with depths of flavor. Dare I say, this may be the BEST pad thai I have ever tried? I see why this place is bustling and was featured on the Food Network. I always order the fresh spring rolls when I go to Thai restaurants and the sauce was more of a sweet vinaigrette then actual peanut sauce fyi. Other than that, everything was excellent. I came here with coworkers during a work trip. Great service and ambiance! Portions here is extremely generous as well and prices are reasonable. I am giving high ratings for that alone. Surprisingly, I was not impressed with the flavors of the drunken noodles though. It was too salty and sweet for my liking, but maybe I needed to try something else off the menu...A few people at my table got pad thai and that looked pretty good, but I didn't get to taste that. Ok, I have tried this place 6 times in all in the last 10 months and I will say that either the chef(s) have improved, or the recipes--but now our family enjoys coming-especially for lunch. It does get crowded, but it is spacious and maybe the faster turnover at lunch helps with the food-at least that is part of our assessment. The sweet spot at lunch seems to be 1:15 or later and they serve up until 4pm, but we have found that the food prepared at lunch seems better than the quieter times later on. Their Kha Soi chicken soup is really really good and I enjoy seeing how many people ordering this at lunchtime. Sometime the chicken is more tender than other times, but overall it is quite delicious. I think that I have ordered this now once a week for the last 3 weeks. Hubby likes Drunken noodles with chicken and licks his plate every time we go. We tried Anchan Thai's Kha Soi and while it was good it wasn't as good as Aloy, so we will stick with Aloy for that specialty. read more

Absolute favorite Thai spot in Boulder -- I come here all the time and every dish I've ordered has been excellent. I love the Pad See Ew -- it's my all-time favorite. The Panang Curry is also so delicious, the Crying Tiger is great, and the Tom Kha soup is another one I always recommend. Truly haven't had a bad dish here. The servers are always so kind, and the restaurant has such a warm, cozy vibe that makes eating in feel relaxed and welcoming. This place is a gem in Boulder! I was staying next door at the Hilton and came here after checking into the hotel on a cold Wednesday night. I had been eating a lot of western style food and was craving some different flavors and this place looked perfect. + hot sweet ginger tea: YUM. A big spicy warm hug that felt like it squeezed all the ice from my soul and banished all the germs. It's not a huge portion for the price ($4) but wow it hit the spot + khao soi, spicy: thick warming coconutty broth, delicious egg noodles, a tangled ball of crispy egg noodles on top for textural contrast, and a tender braised chicken thigh. I dumped in the side saucer of pickled greens and extra chili paste and slurped it all down. SO flavorful and good I came back the very next night when it was even colder, because I wanted to try more: + tom yum soup w/pork (and an extra side of sticky rice): ordered it extra spicy this time and honestly, I should've gone for Thai hot. Maybe it's a Colorado thing? I'm from California and this did not seem extra spicy. Still, it was good, with plenty of mushrooms and sliced pork and a tart flavorful broth. I dipped spoonfuls of sticky rice in the broth + cheesecake: this was the yelp check in freebie. Standard circle of cheesecake on a graham crust. I appreciated the extra care on presentation with the pretty dish, squirt of whipped cream and a cherry. Service was efficient and pleasant and the interior has a fun bright ambiance. Amazing. I'm giving it a grade I would say 4.5 out of five, but I'm rounding up because we had excellent service, and the food is exactly what we felt like. Ambience was super nice and the menu had a great variety. We started with a cucumber salad and the fresh rolls. Both were truly fresh tasty. Then we had the Panang chicken curry. The flavors of this dish were outstanding. I still can't put my finger on exactly what made it so great. But we found ourselves taking spoonfuls and sipping them once we were done with the main contents of the dish. Definitely recommend if you are in Boulder and love Thai food. read more

Some good dishes, esp the papaya salad. But the 2/5 heat level is very mild. Even though they called it medium so if you like things spicy do at least 4. What was really disappointing was the eggplant dish which really ended up being mostly onions and peppers. If you like eggplant, you would reasonably expect to have more than three pieces of eggplant in a stirfry eggplant dish. For $18 very disappointing. Eggplant is cheap. Please revisit this dish because otherwise it would've been good. read more

Super convenient location right across from our hotel and Guy Fieri has been there with DDD?! We are in! Placed our order online and showed up 5 min later. We waited in the entrance which was nicely decorated. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Even the Mgr came over and chatted with us til our food arrived. I ordered Green Curry Tofu, Thai hot. It was delicious and the first time a Thai restaurant got the hot part right!! I love that their online offered a multitude of spice options. Hubby got the vegan Fried Rice with Tofu, Thai hot, and said it was the hottest of any he'd had before. He loved it and said the flavor was fantastic. Daughter ordered regular Fried Rice with chicken. She others "just" spicy. It was enough spice for her, and she shared that it was some of the best fried rice she has had too. *** We were so hungry we didn't wait for pictures, but the dishes were as beautiful - with a nice bright green in the curry and flecks of fresh veggies in the fried rice - as the flavor was delicious! A pretty great Thai spot! They have multiple locations, we ended up at the one in Golden and I was very pleasantly surprised to find some good Thai food here. The flavors are great, usually when a Thai place advertises itself as spicy they don't actually mean it--Aloy Thai means business, I got a decent kick at the spice level that's right below their spiciest level. The service is fantastic and accommodating, and you can't go wrong with the atmosphere. My only slight criticism with the place is that the prices are way too high for Thai food--but that's probably to be expected when you're eating out in Golden.
