I've been eating Basil Bowl for several years now. I live in Texas but visit several times a year. While I'm in Lafayette I will order their drunken noodles half a dozen times or more during my two week visit. Their drunken noodles are AMAZING. Anything I've ordered has been excellent. Everything here is incredible... everything. Been coming here for years, and never had a bad experience. I've gone here more than once a week on a several occasions, and I've considered two trips in one day before... used to be the closest spot, now I'll pass 5 Thai restaurants to get Basil Bowl. I can never decide between the Pad Thai or the Panang Curry, so I just get both and pretend the curry is a drink. It's always the same couple working- very sweet and hard working family business. Had a rare long wknd vacation with a friend and we painted Boulder red starting with this delightful stop in Luisville, CO, on the way from Denver International to Boulder. We split two entrees: the highly rated Drunken Noodles with chicken ($19) and the Panang Curry with beef and Jasmin rice ($19). We both like moderate heat and the "medium" setting for each was just right. The curry was terrific and properly jam-packed with ample thin-sliced beef and veggies. But the star was the Drunken noodles. I'm normally a Pad Thai fan over the Drunken (which has a different sauce and uses large/thin flat noodles) but, holy cow, simply outstanding. The operation is by a husband/wife team with the husband providing very gracious and attentive service and the wife providing the magic in the kitchen. Parking is easy/free right in front and ambience is clean and traditional "Thai" themed. At 4pm there was only one other table occupied but we couldn't help notice a steady stream of takeout orders... always a good sign! read more

We were pleasantly greeted when we arrived and promptly seated. We shared the crab wontons--they were really delicious. My husband had the beef brisket pho and raved about the taste and that it was served hot. I had the ginger chicken and enjoyed it so much. We will definitely return! read more

The food, especially Pho, is always tasty. It's definitely a family-run business, as they don't have polished "server" personalities and their kid hangs out in the back, but they are nice and welcoming to us, despite being picky/poor vegetarians. This small, unassuming restaurant is quietly the best Thai and Vietnamese restaurant in Colorado. The vegetarian pho is light and flavorful, pairing well with fresh veggies and perfectly fried tofu. My sisters and I stumbled upon this place on a cold December day. I will admit, I am partial to "hole in the wall," type places so was excited to give it a try. It far exceeded my expectations. The owners are an absolute delight, and that alone makes me want to come back here as often as possible. The pho was some of the best I've had in Colorado and they even had gluten free pad see ew and gluten free drunken noodles. (Anyone with the celiac curse knows finding such menu items is a true blessing.) They have several vegan friendly items as well so this place is a win with anyone we bring! Their portions are very generous, we always have left overs which is great because I could eat their food every day. Sincerely. We moved from SF, where amazing Thai food abounds. I've been searching for similarly delicious Thai in the area for 8 months and am so happy to have finally found it! The pad see ew is perfection, the rice is fluffy, and the owner is incredibly friendly and detail-oriented. He even delivered my food out to my car because I was transporting a child and didn't want to have to do the car seat dance. 4.5 stars for Basil Bowl. 3 of us enjoyed a late dinner there last night. Our food was excellent. My daughter and another friend who accompanied us are vegan. Our waitperson worked with them in a detail-oriented way to be sure their orders would contain no meat, eggs, or dairy. Most is obvious, however curries, broths, and sauces must be considered as well. We all appreciated our waitperson's thoroughness with all of the above. I'm simply a garden-variety vegetarian. I ordered Green Curry which comes with an array of vegetables and I added tofu. Delicious. The others ordered Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai. They appeared to love their food. One of us got Mangoes and Sticky Rice for dessert. Presentation for this dish was absolutely artistic. Why 4.5 stars then? I don't give 5 stars the first time I try a newly opened restaurant. Don't hesitate- go here for a meal! This was hands down the best pho I have had since living in the Bay Area. Fantastic broth and fresh vegetables with perfectly springy noodles. The drunken noodles were also the best noodles I have had in Colorado, and I have had a lot over the last seven years! The veggies were crispy, the 3 out of 4 spice level perfect, and the sauce was so savory. The shrimp on the noodles was also sweet and clearly fresh. This place is tiny and ok for lunch. Doesn't have great AC. The server is getting better (been there twice), but in general is VERY slow, although he doesn't look busy. I get the impression that he just doesn't have restaurant experience and is learning as he goes. He is nice and communication is getting better. The food here overall has been good. I am pleased with it. The only thing I don't like is they can't get the heat level right. I like my food spicy and no matter how hot I order it, it isn't. Unfortunately can't rave about this restaurant, like most others seem to be so far. My wife and I had two medium bowls of pho and the Vietnamese spring rolls. As you know, the broth is the key ingredient and it was a big let down. It was not very rich and had little flavor. I even tried adding a little salt but what was missing was more fat and richness from a slow cooked broth. It was about as watery as I've ever had. A small plus for including cilantro in the soup vs having to ask for it. As seen in this picture, the fixings provided for the two of us were pretty meager; yes we had to share. That amount would be meager even if it were just for one of us. The amount of food, given we ordered Mediums, was definitely on the small side. In most places it might be a small or less than a small. But priced as a large or a little more. The spring rolls were decent but bordered on the type you find at buffets. Nice and hot and crispy but not a lot of flavor. The dish that saved this from being a two star review was the mango sticky rice. It wasn't fantastic but it was good and a nice sized serving. Lastly I'll note that I'm originally from SoCal and have been to a lot of good Vietnamese (I know Basil Bowl is not purely Vietnamese food but we didn't try any Thai dishes) restaurants. I have an ex who immigrated from Vietnam and could speak authoritatively on what good pho is. I was looking forward to finally getting food from here, but it wasn't in the cards... Mobile website doesn't work. It just does nothing. Website works, but as soon as you click on the menu item, an overlay comes up and tells you to call to order, so you have no idea what's in the food you are ordering. So we called... The website says they're open noon to 8pm on Sunday, but the voicemail says they do not open until 4pm. Ended up going somewhere else. We will update our rating if we end up going back. read more

My family has been eating here for over a year, about twice a month. Some of the best, most authentic, fresh Vietnamese/Thai food I've ever had. It's my family's favorite restaurant. We have liked everything we've tried here. Favorites are the beef/brisket pho, the spring rolls, the chicken thai basil, and the beef pad see ew. Our children always get the chicken fried rice and love it. Shrimp pineapple fried rice also good, different seasoning. The owners (husband and wife) are the only employees we have seen here. They are a hard-working couple who take pride in the quality and presentation of food they prepare. I feel like we are lucky to have them here in Lafayette. read more

Wow! What a great addition to the neighborhood. We've tried the curries and the wok dishes. Everything has been delicious and fresh. My wife and I are working our way through the menu. We have not been disappointed. The pad thai is excellent. We love the yellow and green curries. The Chef (she is the wife of the 'wife and husband' team) even presents the food beautifully in the take out containers. They have meat based dishes--but almost everything can be made vegetarian or vegan. The inside looks immaculate. The prices are fair. The folks that run the restaurant are warm and welcoming.
