Wow this place is amazing! Has a great selection of beers with rotating selections, great food and the server we had was wonderful. Came on a Monday night and it wasn't too crowded. They did have a ticketed painting event happening which was cool to see they had those, I would consider signing up for an event in the future. I got the black bean burger with fried and a beer. Everything tasted amazing and the fries especially were great. They have a great happy hour deal I'm keen to start grabbing and I want to keep an eye out for fun events. But this time, we heard that they had Mingo (Meat Bingo) on the last Thursday of the month, so we had to go! Alpha Brewing has the perfect little stop for enjoying the nice weather! We went on a lovely ring day and enjoyed the flowers, bird song and of course Tassie the cat! I can't believe I didn't know about this place. So glad I found it. The outside area is so cool. It would be fun to hang out there when the weather gets a little nicer. The drinks were good. My friends really liked the beers but I kept with the Flying Cherry Cocktail. My friends ordered a wrap and the tacos. I wasn't hungry but considering the food was scarfed down before I got a photo I'm guessing it was really good. These came with fries which were really good. We also ordered the pickled veggies. Lovely people running this place! I visited for my brother in law's show, which they were hosting in their barrel room. We all grabbed food beforehand, and I had one of the few veggie options. I ordered 2 mellow gold winter lagers which was light and refreshing and perfect for a chill winter night. I also got the patty melt with shoe string fries. The bread on the patty melt was toasted well and the burger meat cooked perfectly. The shoestring fries were flavored well. I also split the sugar butter pretzel fries which were a nice dessert pretzel. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and the sweet butter drizzle was perfect on top. They are still crackling when they come out. You can spice it up with a flavor- my favorite is the chili-cumin cilantro. If you have any beer questions the staff is very helpful with selecting one to your flavor profile. I've really wanted to like this brewery. I've gone a dozen or so times, each time having a not quite right experience, but I keep going back because I want to like it and I want to support a variety of local businesses. The burger is ok. Apps are greasy. Sauces compete with the food itself and all of that would be fine at a dive bar or at dive bar prices, but it's pricey and in a nicer place. The food really should be better. Beer: I love beer. I look forward to it every weekend. I also like a variety of beers. Wheats, ales, lagers, stouts, sours... not a big ipa fan- but I'll drink them if the flavor is there. I don't know how to explain the strange after taste that comes from Alpha beers. Overly bitter and mouth drying and lingering. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and they're all pretty "meh" Service: this was what made me decide to call it quits on Alpha and leave the review. The kitchen staff/ food runners are always kind and polite. The bartenders seem bothered to have to take an order or answer any questions. Tonight after having a swingler, I thought the flavor was a little off so I tried a mellow gold. A "easy drinking lager" with a 6% Abv. When I took a drink- it tasted like hand sanitizer. I had my husband try it and he said there was no way that was a 6% and it tasted like an off double hopped ipa. When I brought it to the bartender, I asked if she could verify what I ordered and when she said the mellow gold I told her it didn't taste quite right and that it tasted like a very high alcohol content. She said "it's not" and then walked away to talk to another customer. Now. I've been a bartender. I've been a server. I've been a manager of a beer house- that beer was off.
