    Beer cheese soup

Super cool place. We came on a very rainy summer afternoon, so it wasn't too crowded. Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered a ton of food amongst our party and everyone loved what they got. We got the charcuterie board and beer cheese soup, both of which were outstanding. We wound up making our way out to the huge covered patio, where the servers were so kind to serve us. They were quick and attentive. Tons of parking in the lot. Everything was clean, beer is tasty. Happy hour has great prices. Highly recommend this place.

Patio beers for the win! We popped into Schlafly on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy the warm weather and soak in the almost fall vibes. It was the beginning of pumpkin beer season so that was the definite go to. I really enjoy their fall beers, and they're generally pretty affordable. There's tons of seating outside, and the inside has tons of Schlafly merch and items on display which is pretty cool. Having fresh beer to buy and take home is a nice asset to have. Highly recommend for a chill afternoon!

The patio was perfect for one of the first warm nights of spring! Very spacious with cute fairy lights. Everyone was very welcoming to our table and food and drinks came out quickly. The spinach dip is a must try and I always like their beer! The Christmas Ale was a favorite this time! We will definitely be making use of their patio in the nicer weather! Seems like they had a kids corner set up for little ones too.

When we parked our car and entered the restaurant, we saw the way they make beer through glass and the process of packaging it. We were also greeted by a kind staff member ready to take us to our table. We chose to sit outside. As we walked outside, we saw the modern industrial atmosphere of the brewery. They were playing 80s rock music outside on the patio. The patio was not too crowded for this Thursday lunch spot. The Shorty's Lager was ice cold and refreshing. I ordered a Schlafly Smash with House BW Sauce. After we ordered, we tried to give the menus to the waiters. But she said keep them on the table. An interesting new policy compared to other restaurants and what they had before. Anyways, the patty in my burger was juicy, the sauce was delicious, the cheese was probably processed but creamy, and the bun was fluffy. The fries had the perfect seasoning compared to how they looked to me. They were also very crispy.

Love their large covered patio esp on a cool evening. A group of us enjoyed a dinner there. Although I am not much of a beer drinker I decided I would try one of their pumpkin beers. I actually really liked the vanilla pumpkin. (If you like IPAs you wouldn't like it). I go for the beers with low bitters which is why I liked the vanilla pumpkin. I had trouble deciding on dinner so went the easy route with soup and salad. I got house salad and added grilled chicken. It was large and delicious. White balsamic dressing they served with it was spot on. Soup was tomato basil which was okay but I do think beer cheese soup might be better. Our waitress was very busy because she also was the bartender inside. She did a great job.

Last happy hour of the year! Stopped in for $3 drafts...sat outside on the patio as it was in the 60's, so nice! Sofia was our waitress and she was wonderful! We started out as a party of 5 and kept adding people as the night progressed. Had to try the sticky toffee pudding (Excellent as always!), and the carrot cake, it was very good, still can't trump the STP though....

My friend recommended we meet here and it was a good suggestion. We had good beer and good food all around. Service was excellent as well and accommodating us with separate checks. He ordered the pizza and I opted for a chicken Philly sandwich. Our food was delicious.

It has been 14 years since my last review and I am embarrassed that I haven't done an update until now. I've been numerous times and my most recent visit was so stellar, I knew I had to do an update. I meet a friend for lunch and we were both impressed with our food and service. We both ordered their Chicken Wings. They come 1 lb. to an order. I liked that they make sure that the number of flats and drums, match. The pieces were huge, and prepared extra crispy. I had my Buffalo Sauce on the side for dipping. The wings themselves were so flavorful, I really didn't need to dip that much. My beverage of choice was their, White Lager. It's one of my favorites. I loved how they served it in a, Wiezen glass. We kinda blew our low-carb diets, by ordering the Sticky Toffee Pudding. We shared one order, which actually could be shared by four. Yes, it is that large of a serving. It's one of their signature dishes and I highly recommend ordering it. Our server, Kit was outstanding. Her personality was super friendly and she made our lunch an enjoyable experience.

Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood is back in full swing with its brewery tours, and it's the perfect time to experience everything this iconic St. Louis establishment has to offer. We recently took the tour, sampled some of their incredible beers, and had an absolute blast! The guided tour is a fascinating dive into Schlafly's brewing process and the history of the brewery. Schlafly, founded in 1991, was the first brewery to open in St. Louis after Prohibition--a trailblazer in the craft beer movement. Our tour ended with a generous sampling of their signature beers. What are you into? IPAs, rich stouts, or refreshing ales? There's something for you and they will find it. Keep an eye out for these guys. Schlafly is known for its seasonal brews, like their Pumpkin Ale in the fall and Kolsch for the summer, which are beloved by fans across the country. Like Aaron H would say, come #getyousome history, community spirit, and, of course, delicious beer! Prost!

Update: We tried it again. David helped earn one more star! This time we sat outside and it was lovely! Still ordered the taco flights and delicious as always. Still wanting more from the portobello taco...think sauce or pico...but still good. David was prompt, friendly and attentive; a nice & welcome break from the norm that I've experienced here. Keep it going!!

I legitimately cannot believe I've never reviewed this place. I've been coming here for probably 15 years, the bartenders are phenomenal (Dave and Perot and Val kick butt). It's a great family place as well. They have board games. They have toys outside for the kids when it's warm out. Food is great. The beers are always good and even better when they're fresh. Edit: I am dumb and already left a review ha ha, but the five stars every time is still a thing

This was not my first visit at this Schlafly location. One of our favorite places to meet up with friends. We had a large party on a Saturday night, so we made reservations. Table was ready for us when we got there. Same Excellent service. Same delicious food. I ordered some of my favorites , a tall Hefeweizen with the Hummus plate. Our waiter kept the drinks coming. We closed out the area that night. Once we paid our tab, they didn't complain and let us continue our conversations and fun.

    Shrimp Linguine
    Trevor M.

We came here for dinner and there was an after party for a kids soccer game going on which was fun to see but also made things extra busy and loud. I ordered the shrimp linguine and tried some of the fish and chips. The shrimp linguine was delicious and filling as it comes in a large bowl. I did not like how small the shrimp were. At first I thought they ran out of the bigger shrimp and just used the po-boy shrimp instead but maybe that's just how it's done, it's a "special" after all. The hefenweizen breading on the fish is delicious. I also tried the coleslaw but it tasted like vodka, i think it was bad. We mentioned it to service, they took it but didnt offer anything. I'd come here again but next time I'll be more skeptical of the specials.

I met here with members of a local running group for one of their periodic pub runs. It was extremely cold when I got there, despite having been nearly 90 degrees out the day before. Several members of our group stood in the doorway, preventing other patrons from entering and exiting. Modern's staff deserves credit for not complaining or forcing them to leave. They may have sensed that this wasn't the local unhoused population. Only employed people run recreationally, despite having relatively little free time. I see this place all the time, from my car on the adjacent highway, on my way back to civilization, but I'd never had the occasion to stop by. Perhaps I'd be a regular if I attended the nearby community college. But if I could afford to eat here, why would I be attending community college? The beer will set you back. I would have been fine with a 32 oz can of Miller High Life, but when in Rome. There's an extensive selection of beers on tap, and probably even more in cans and bottles. I'm no connoisseur, and I don't have that kind of time, so I went with something called Silent Gs, or something to that effect. I justified it, in part, by telling myself that its name is a reference to the Lil Wayne bar adored by people who started listening to rap music in 2003. I paid $7.50-ish for a not particularly large serving, but damn it if it wasn't pretty good. I appreciate it anytime one of these higher gravity pale ales doesn't taste like it was sourced from a trough-style urinal at a circa '83 ballpark. A couple of girls from the aforementioned run group mentioned that this place carries a brussels spouts salad. I don't eat salad, because I'm a guy, but these girls are certified baddies, and I succumbed to the peer pressure. I attempted to mitigate the impact on my reputation by also ordering a slice of pepperoni pizza. I'm gonna have to have a difficult meeting with my accountant, as a result, but it was worth it. The entree serving of the salad would have been enough food, even without the pizza. It's enough vegetables that it's actually kinda obnoxious, like they're trolling you. Who do they think I am, a damn cow? Part of that may have been the brussels sprouts. They help give the salad a surprising heft, for something that doesn't have any meat in it, and help make up for the lack of bacon, which I generally require with brussels sprouts. The candied walnuts, which I thought might be croutons, were another delightful surprise and complemented the tang of the pickled red onions. The pizza came topped with an oddly precise-looking quantity and arrangement of pepperonis, like they might have Russell Crowe from the movie A Beautiful Mind working in the kitchen. It's not like at Domino's, where they just toss them on there and they might not even be on half the pizza. I guess they have to do that when they sell it by the slice. You'd be upset if you didn't get enough of them, because they're delicious. They're the kind that curl up into little cups filled with disgustingly unhealthy and yet delicious oil. I wonder if that's also because they serve it by the slice and hence have to reheat it. That may have resulted in the end of the crust suffering from a bit of Popeyes biscuit-like dryness, but what are you going to do. Then again, that may have been a purposeful attempt to get you to purchase more expensive beer. Everything else here was so well executed, it's hard to imagine this wasn't intentional on their part.

I came with my parents and husband and we all agreed it was a great idea and a very comfortable space, perfect for what was needed. I was surprised at how relatively ample the parking was here despite its proximity to the city. We found a spot with no problems. There were discreet signs that directed us up the stairs to where the event was held. It was spacious, airy, and cool, with a decent number of tables and a very nice large bar, as well as restrooms for both men and women. Our family members who spoke were able to stand on a small stage and share their thoughts. The food was served buffet style in front of the stage. Although you'd think it might be hard to hear given the acoustics, they worked out a way to make it so their speeches could be heard easily. Even visiting with other folks after they spoke, it never became too loud to hear each other. There are also nice TVs which displayed photos of the family. Although we used the space for a celebration of life, I can imagine it would be a good fit for all sorts of events, from corporate parties to just a chill hang out space when it's open to the public. It did get a little bit hot in the space as the event wore on, but it wasn't intolerable. The food and drinks were also quite tasty, especially for catered/buffet style food. There were pretzel bites and cheese dip and three different types of slider burgers: a standard/original burger, a taco burger, and an Impossible burger. The pretzel bites were crispy and buttery. I had a taco burger slider. It was a tiny bit dry but had a great flavor. The bartenders were great -- friendly, answering questions, working efficiently, and very kind to all the guests. Husband enjoyed the beers he tried and my mom and I both ordered the "Cranberry Crush," which was a yummy (and strong!) cocktail that was bright and perfectly sweet. They also serve mocktails, which I love! Glad to include folks who are sober. Thanks, 4 Hands, for creating a welcoming and comfortable space for us!

I came here with friends for trivia night on a Tuesday and it was packed. Weekly trivia nights are just such a good time, great way to hang out, be present, and put your phone down for a few hours. Highly recommend coming for that. They also have a pizza restaurant attached to the brewery which is a nice bonus. They sell pizza by the slice too which is perfect if you just want a little something to snack on while you drink. Speaking of drinks, we got beer obviously. I tried the citrus tangerine one and it was so refreshing. I also tried the vanilla cookie beer which sounds a little out there but was really interesting and yummy. The space itself is super spacious and clean. Oh also they have a lot of board games that you can play too. I would definitely come back, either for pizza, or happy hour with coworkers or to play the games there. They have pool too.

Elevated casual atmosphere that is super family friendly. We sat at a table in the main dining area, which also had a large bar with nice plush chairs. Plenty of TVs on mute if you want to check in on a sports game. Service was 11/10 - seamless, well paced, and very friendly staff Food was 4.5/5 - pretzels, brat, schnitzel were all delicious, best schnitzel Ive had outside of Germany Sadly the apple strudel dessert fell flat (seemed like it was on day 3, soggy pastry and a bit chilled like it was pulled from the fridge and microwaved) Plenty of fun German and Austrian classics, amazing beer, full bar with tasty cocktails, winning atmosphere and excellent service. Definitely worth a visit (or two or 10)

Perfection. I really did plan on taking home half but only took home the spaetzel and the potato salad (which was a mistake). I ordered spaetzel and they sent it out with the salad. Mistake was caught by the kitchen in under a minute and they sent out the spaetzel. I appreciated the great service. My husband's goulash was really good but my schnitzel was still far better. Oh. And the beers are really good too. I had the Dunkel, highly recommend. Ambience great, service great, food amazing, and good beers. We will be back.
