I had an inspection done on a 1920"s house that I am interested in. I had very mixed emotions on buying a very old house vs buying a newer one. Luke Harrington put my mind at ease right away when he started to discuss with me what he was going to do for the inspection and to ask any and every question I like. Luke mentioned that he owns an older home himself and he does a ton of older home inspections. Luke was extremely through. He answered any questions any of our us had.(Just a recommendation don't bring your whole family and friends with you to the inspection. It gets overwhelming for yourself and I would think the Inspector) :o) The questions we asked he answered in layman's terms so we could understand what he was saying completely. If Luke found something he thought was questionable he would call me, show me and explain what should be done. Luke inspected the house for a complete 3+ hours. I was extremely happy and I will totally recommend Luke and Alpha Building Inspections to my family and friends who need something inspected. At the end of Luke's inspection he downloaded all the information he had on his phone to his laptop so he could give us a snapshot of what we will be receiving via email. Thank was great because I knew I wouldn't be shocked when I read the inspection. The Inspection was sent to me only a few hours after our inspection. That floored me. For such a long inspection I opened my email up a few hours later and there it was waiting for me to read. Before Luke left for the day he gave me his business card and on the back he wrote his mobile number. He said do not hesitate to call him if I have any questions or if the seller has any questions. When Luke said that to me I felt more comfortable about the inspection and the house. The Inspection Document was way more than I ever could expected. The document was about 58 pages and it had every acceptable, non acceptable, major and minor things that needed to be fixed. The document was completely thorough. The document had in it every inch of the 1920's house I'm interested in. We are buying a house in Hampton, NH. We had to find an inspector quickly, and even though it was on such short notice and was a holiday weekend, Alpha inspections worked with me to find an inspector that could be there on my schedule. It's over a 3 hour drive from our house in CT. and we arrived a few minutes early. Our inspector, Jim Reid, had already inspected the garage and the exterior of the home. There was a lot there to document, so I'm glad he had a head start. Jim did a systematic audit of each room, starting in the basement, and then went to the attic, and then each room and closet in between. He removed the covers from the electrical panels, and checked to make certain that they were wired to code. He checked and inspected every window. He verified every electrical outlet for service and grounding. He tested all the appliances, heating system, and vent fans. He checked for leaks in the plumbing and tested faucets and plungers to make sure they worked. He closed and opened all the doors and drawers to see if they closed properly. He pointed out deficiencies in insulation that could become an issue in the future, and suggested different ways to fix that. Jim encouraged me to follow along and explained what he was doing and what he had found. He was eager to answer my questions and gave detailed explanations at the level I understood, and made suggestions on how to address some of those issues. He created a very detailed inspection report in a 62 page pdf within hours. It contained a summary table of all the issues found, with references to the details for each issue. The photos were extremely helpful in clarifying the descriptions, and reminded me of some of the findings. It was also useful as a reference, I've had inspections before, and have seen reports of my homes for prospective buyers and can tell you that none approached the comprehensiveness, detail, and quality of this inspection and report. I recommend Alpha Inspections because of the quality of it's inspectors, and the work they produce, and at a reasonable price. But wait.. There's more, because a day later, I emailed Jim with a specific question about an issue, and he returned my email with a phone call within 15 minutes! What great service. read more

Jim Reid was amazing!! As a first-time home buyer, he gave me an education on the basics of plumbing and electrical information including suggested maintenance which was extremely informative, easy to follow, and greatly appreciated. He pointed out every flaw that he saw and explained the issues and fixes for them all. Not only did he point out the flaws, he also mentioned the various aspects of the place that were great and above standard. At the conclusion of the inspection, he showed me all the pictures he had taken over two days (one set when he pre-set up the radon test equipment and the second set during the scheduled inspection) and made sure I understood each picture and what it showed and the repairs I could make to fix the issues. The full, detailed report was emailed to me within a couple of hours from the end of the inspection. I would, hands down, recommend Jim to anyone for a home inspection. read more

Luke is an amazing asset to the Alpha team. For first time home buyers, Luke did an awesome job communicating to us so we could understand the process from start to finish. He was there early and stayed late, he looked over every square inch of this house, and told us everything that was going on from loose door hindges to small wires that were incorrectly terminated. He even found a piece of siding on one end of the house, about half way up, that had a hole the size of a dime. He had all the latest technology to work with, and he made sure to utilize every piece of it. Luke Harrington performed our multifamily inspection for the home we are attempting to buy. He showed up early to do the exterior so we would not have to stand outside in the cold. He was professional and made sure to keep us informed during the entire inspection. He made sure all parties present for the inspection knew exactly how he would be conducting the inspection as well as what to expect during the inspection. I formerly conducted industrial and commercial Phase I & II Environmental site assessments and transactions screens, so am very picky about the quality of work that I expect for an inspection. Alpha sent out Tom Pelletier, who did an excellent job; he even found a few issues that I had missed.
