Do NOT go here! Or at least the W. Broad location. I went in for an infected tooth that had puss coming out of it. I was given antibiotics, which did not work. I went back with my infected tooth with puss coming out of it still and was told to schedule for a root canal. Too late! The puss was already in my blood stream giving me sepsis and injured kidneys. By the time I got to the emergency room I was in respiratory and heart failure. I was quickly treated for the sepsis and my kidneys returned to normal. A dentist came in to pull the tooth and another one that I didn't know was infected. I was knocked out and woke up intubated since I could not breathe due to being in respiratory failure. It took thesurgeons 4hrs to work on my heart and I was clinically dead since my organs was put on bypass. My aortic valve was decimated so it was replaced with a cow's. My ribs are being held together by wire. Now every 10 years my valve has to be replaced. The recovery, I would not wish on anyone. My best friend took me in because she is an angel and also no steps in her house. She had to infuse me twice a day for 28 days with antibiotics through a picc line. They were so strong I lost half of my hair. A nurse came once weekly to check my progress and get blood samples and was available day or night. I could do nothing for myself. Stand up, sit down, shower, get in or out of bed. I relied totally on my best friend to do these things and take me to endless post OP appointments. There are no words to describe the pain. Thank goodness for Oxycodone, that I tried to use sparingly. After a few weeks PT started. Since I could not take the Oxycodone during therapy because I needed my witts about me, the pain was the pain was intense. It's been a year now and my chest still feels like it is going to explode when I cough and sneeze. I would love to sue Alpha Dental, but I can't afford to put a lawyer on retainer, but I'm sure Alpha Dental can and will drag it out for as long as possible. A settlement would not change the fact I now have a bad heart I know, but after all I have been through due to their negligence I believe I deserve something. Now all I can do is share my story to every website I possibly can so this does not happen to anyone else. read more

I have been coming to Alpha Dental for years but they have gone downhill in recent months. Their dental hygienists used to take pride in their work. But no more. They must not pay them very well so now they just have inexperienced hygienists. Today the X-ray process took longer than the actual teeth cleaning. I need to find a new dentist. I would give them zero or negative. Yes they're fast & convenient but the work they do is 'half assed' and just a 'quick fix'. I would describe this place like; a slumlord that duct tapes the issue, just to get by or to hide the issues. Sure, it may work for now, but you better go find a decent dentist that'll take the time needed, address everything & do things right. The work they did for me, did not last very long at all. I'm now paying for it in pain & my insurance is having to cover for more repair work because what Alpha Dental did, pretty much made things worse. I'm so serious when I say RUN! I love coming here ever since I starting taking care of my teeth more since I have wisdom teeth issues. I never felt uncomfortable talking to them about my issues and they listen to my concerns. For my first ever work done on my teeth I felt absolutely no pain. I had my teeth removed without anesthesia and I went with the numbing method. The assistant and Dr kept checking in on me during the removal process. And I was excited and a little nervous about it due to other people horror stories about their experience with different doctors. But like I said it was honestly the best experience no pain. And I'm all healed up and this will be my primary Dental office. Highly recommend coming here! read more

Utmost worst communication imaginable from this office. I've been dealing with billing issues and malpractice from the dentist for a root canal for months-- several months! Report them to the state board, and stay away from this office. Take your money elsewhere or hire an attorney for negligence. Told me they could not pull my tooth because I only need one pulled and not 3.. yes that is correct they refused to provide care even though I am close to sepsis because they wouldn't make enough money. So far I'm not impressed but grateful for the services anyway. My husband needed his wisdom teeth removed urgently and after calling around we realized most places were booking 4-6 months out but alpha dental got him in quickly. Upon arrival they already had his paperwork that needed to be signed highlighted and ready for him. Some of the line items were questionable such as them saying they're not responsible for possible death. Josh didn't feel comfortable signing such things and they said he would not be allowed to have the procedure without signing it. Reluctantly he signed despite questioning why the service wouldn't hold themselves responsible for his survival of such a common procedure. Then upon turning in the paperwork we were caught off guard with a $70 co-pay for a procedure I've also had in the past where we paid nothing. When inquiring about the payment they told us it was for the anesthesia which they claimed our insurance would not cover. So we paid, but while in the wait room for over an hour I did some research. I called our member services and they reported that they do in fact cover this procedure entirely. They gave me instructions on what the office should do so that we shouldn't have to pay. After getting off the phone with CareSource I went to again inquire on the payment we had made and explained what forms should have been submitted to get this procedure done. Only then did they explain that the prior authorization form they supposedly submitted was DENIED (get this) because the DENTIST IS NOT AND ORAL SURGEON! By this time my husband had already gone back to the procedure room and was being put under and I'm in a total panic. The desk people tried to claim me by explaining he is a general dentist and is licensed to IV sedate and do extractions. So basically they are forming beyond their training and not informing the clients. Not that anything else matters after that point but if you're still going to patron this business know that The "kid room" tv didn't work and the front desk people didn't know how to use it. The floor in there was kinda gross and I thought to myself I wouldn't want an infant in here. Not really enough variety of toys so without the tv it's a waste of space they could have used for seating or they should fix the tv. Free wifi. I do like my dentist there.. Dr. Barkley.. i've went there for regular cleanings, fillings and most recently 2 root canals. Dr. B is great and will explain things to you.. always makes me feel comfortable. I usually get back pretty quickly but it also depends on what time of day you go. There have been a couple times where i am scheduled the last patient of the day.. and i did hear an assistant say "What kind of person schedules a root canal at 4pm?" I don't know if she was referring to me.. but i'm not the one that did the scheduling.. that was when i was told Dr. B would be available.. i had to reschedule since the 1st appt. i had i could not make it and he ended up not being there anyways. I understand that the staff has had a long day and near the end of the shift they want to go home.. but if they don't like it.. maybe they should talk to their schedulers to make sure the last patient isn't going to be a long procedure. Besides that.. i did notice the staff was having trouble with the tools that were provided.. I don't know if the tools needed serviced or what.. this isn't the staffs fault but a concern that needs to be brought to higher administration to make sure the facility has the proper working tools.. It seems like they weren't at their optimal performance.. During one of my root canals one of the metal instruments broke off into my canal.. i believe it was a root canal file.. So i will have this piece of metal in my mouth from a tool breaking within my canal forever. I don't believe it was the dentists fault as i know these things happen.. But the way i understand it when the tool becomes weak after being used the tips can break off.. So essentially i heard them say "just throw the rest of these out because it's the only way we'll get new ones".. Clearly the tools were on their last leg and really weren't functioning at a high quality. So this made me think the staff has a hard time getting the tools they need performing as they should to do their jobs and perform them safely! Also, during my root canal.. i was a little taken aback when the blow torch was used to melt the Gutta Percha.. to pack in and fill the tooth.. The dentist did slip and the plugger tool burnt the inside of my lip and made a blister.. I do have a small mouth though and my mouth was getting tired and i didn't have a bite block in.. I do understand those things happen when you're trying to save a tooth.. The blowtorch method is just a little intimidating.. although from my understanding it is easier and quicker for the dentist than using the electric tool, i think it is called a Dia-Gun..which is bigger and awkward to get in a small mouth. Anyways.. generally I have a good experience with the staff and Dr. B is my fave dentist i've ever had.. I like how it's right down to business. I would just complain to the management for not providing the tools they need at their disposal, they try to make it work but they shouldn't have to worry about instrument performance.. making their jobs more difficult.. I also heard something about one of the drills not spinning properly.. It should be mandatory that everything be up to par! Someone is going to be liable if these unsafe measures continue. All tools need to be serviced and replaced before they are worn out. I understand with medicaid, a lot more people are going to the dentist and being seen.. that means the tools should be replaced and checked more frequently. -Anna read more

Well I went here to have my wisdom teeth extracted, four days later, I have a black eye, my cheek is stitched to my gums and the inside of my mouth looks like ground beef. I would only go here if you would like to be entertained by the confrontations between sassy black women that happen in the lobby while you wait, which will be at least, if not more than an hour. My gums are cut in places that shouldn't have been touched, pieces of my mouth are just floating around, hanging by a thread. I feel like Stevie wonder and Hellen Keller went into my mouth with a scalpel and said fuck it and when they were finished they went to high five and slapped me in the face. Don't go here. read more

First of all, I've been here 4 times now and have never waited LESS than 2 hours. I take great care of my teeth so I was very surprised to hear I had 3 cavities. Oh well, I thought, they know what they are doing. Well I had to go back because they put too much filling material and it was grinding on my other teeth. A week later I was having the same problem so I went back for them to file it down more. I kept having discomfort, so when I went back the 3rd time the dentist told me it was my fault because I grind my teeth at night. I'm still having pain but I'm not going back here! read more

Ever since I was a kid, I had a fear of going to the dentist. It was never a good experience for me. So when I finally had to go in because I could barely eat without being in constant pain, I feared for the worst. The office staff was very nice and courteous and the office itself seemed very relaxing. The doctor told me I needed to get a few teeth pulled. They did a great job pulling them and everything healed up nicely. I'll be coming back soon for a routine cleaning. read more
