The staff and trainers were great, I just hate - HATE - the treadmill, and every class was tons of...wait for it...treadmill work. No big surprise after my free trial class, but I guess I optimistically thought I'd get into it if I kept an open mind. Nope. Did I mention I hate the treadmill? Interval training is where it's at - if only there was more variety than the treadmill and rowing, though I actually do like rowing. But did I tell you how much I hate the treadmill? Also didn't love the class reservation model, not to mention that an expensive monthly membership only grants you a limited number of classes (unless you go for the unlimited membership, and thank god I wasn't THAT enthusiastic when I signed up). With my work schedule I need a bit more flexibility. I did love the darker, orange-lit atmosphere, as I hate staring at myself under bright fluorescent lighting when I work out. This simply wasn't the fitness routine for me. That said, if you enjoy this type of workout - and you'll shed pounds and shape up quickly with interval training, I promise you - then go for it. Like I mentioned, the staff and trainers were great, and the facility itself was nice enough. To paraphrase my parting phrase on many a first date: You're a nice gym, Orange Theory. It's not you, it's me.

I moved and looked for a new crossfit gym for months but I'm glad that I found Golden Phoenix! The coaches are fun and patient. The workouts are challenging but good. I love that everyday is something new. The owner is also nice and easy to talk to. I would highly recommend Golden Phoenix no matter your skill level. There's modifications for everything.

After Blink closed the Linden location, I wound up having to go to Irvington as the next closest…read morelocation and well, it's less than ideal. My drive is twice as long (clocking in a little over 30 mins in the morning rush hour) and involved going through a lot of twists and turns from Elizabeth. Not fun. In contrast the Linden location used to take me 15-20 mins after a quick ride down to the 1-9. Oh well. Irvington is a medium sized gym. It's much bigger than the location in South Orange but not as big as the one that was closed in Linden. The check-in counter is located at the entrance and the young lady behind there was very helpful and understanding about my situation. For some reason the Blink app never loads for me anymore so she was kind enough to look me up to get me checked in. She mentioned since Linden's closing there had been many people coming from that location to this one. I only wound up doing cardio that day but I could tell as I worked on the treadmill that this gym has a lot of dedicated visitors. Many people were talking to each other like old friends and there was a lot of focus, no horsing around and (thankfully) no tripods with cameras on them. All the equipment was being cleaned as I worked out so the staff is attentive. There was a good sized cardio area and a good amount of weights (as many as they could squeeze in). There is also a training/workout area you can use for stretching or body weight exercises. Honestly if Irvington was closer to me I'd probably go more but the distance and drive are both factors I have to take into account. If you're in the area though this is not a bad location to get your work out in.

I do prefer coming to this location early mornings. It isn't too packed and the wait for certain machines doesn't last too long. Like most gyms, you should exercise patience coming in the evenings because it gets veryyy busy and since machines are limited, you'll end up doing some waiting around. The staff aren't as warm and welcoming as they are at other locations, and there's hardly ever anyone at the desk upon arrival. They do a decent job at maintaining the cleanliness of the gym. Everything seems pretty on brand for blink.

No two teachers are alike which is nice, because you are constantly switching it up. The girls at the front desk are all extremely helpful. I want to especially give a shoutout to the girl with pink hair who's name is escaping me right now. Aside from it being a great workout she is the reason I joined. She is always bubbly and kind. I recommend starting by buying a pack of classes on Groupon. With this you'll get a feel of the class. The studio is always running promotions so sign up for emails and try to join when there's a sale, it definitely makes a difference.

Air conditioning doesn't work first of all. On any given day there is about 5-10 machines broken. There are no pins for the cable weights. Not even enough clips for the attachments. All the dumbbells aren't organized which should be done by the front desk. It took 6 months just for the paper towel dispenser to be fixed in the bathroom. Do not waste your money here. Find another gym like crunch down the road on 22. I tried to cancel for weeks and was told I could only email. Still truly haven't gotten confirmation. Going to contact my bank to stop payments. I will never return to THIS retro fitness.

They called me to ensure I would attend the "free class" but when it comes to charging me a large sum of money on a card I never shared the information to,I didn't even get an email confirmation of a transa or call asking if I had chosen to enroll. Dirty way of doing busines. They also provide little to no help in trying to resolve the issue. All the sudden ppl are too busy. They have provided me with absolutely no service as of yet and i don't intend to attend their classes, yet I won't be reimbursed.
