Been a member here for about a month and I absolutely love it. This is a super intense class but it's perfect for someone like me that like to dedicate an hour of my day for working out and not have to do anything else. The teachers are all super nice. No two teachers are alike which is nice, because you are constantly switching it up. The girls at the front desk are all extremely helpful. I want to especially give a shoutout to the girl with pink hair who's name is escaping me right now. Aside from it being a great workout she is the reason I joined. She is always bubbly and kind. I recommend starting by buying a pack of classes on Groupon. With this you'll get a feel of the class. The studio is always running promotions so sign up for emails and try to join when there's a sale, it definitely makes a difference. read more

This is a review for the unethical owner of CKO Fanwood and Gilette. I bought a Groupon and subsequently signed up for what I thought was a three month membership. I clearly asked when I purchased if I would only be charged for three months. He said yes. I asked if I would need to do anything. I was told no because this price was only for three months..."a special". Totally untrue. I called after I was charged for a 4th month. I was told (by the person who signed me up) that it was in the contract that I had to give 30 days notice in writing to cancel. I specifically reminded him of our conversation and he told me to email the owners (which a general mailbox). There's an auto reply that I can expect a response within 48 hours. It's been 1.5 weeks and two emails with no reply. This is horrible customer service. I feel cheated and have contacted my credit card company. BTW, this so called contract I signed...I never got a copy and I signed on a small electronic pad. I have asked three times to have it sent to me and it was never sent to me. Be careful going to this business as the owner is unethical and the people who sell you the membership will tell you whatever to get you to sign but don't responsibilities when questioned. Finally after many calls, the person who sold me the membership in Gillette told me that the owner is closing the Gillette location so he doesn't care anymore. So who know what will happen with the Fanwood location. DON'T TAKE A CHANCE WITH THE BUSINESS. So much for trusting a local business. read more

Staff is helpful and classes are small . Eugene and Christine are the best instructors . Classes can be pricey Being $60 dollars a month. But after going 3-4 times week it make classes less then $5 a class . read more

I had my first trial class today and got my butt KICKED, it's exactly what I needed. I came in for a class with Eugene and he kept us challenged the entire hour. It's a fun way to mix up your workout and work your entire body, I'll be joining as soon as I can cancel my current gym membership! Highly recommend! read more

I joined a few months ago and very happy I am sticking to it!! Tried different time slots and different trainers, Eric and a few others trainers fits more with my abilities and still provides me with a challenge. Some of the other trainers although very committed to the program incorporate yelling as part of their motivation while working out, this and unrealistic routines does not work for me or.... my forty something year old body. I have taken many classes over the years at many different gyms. I will agree with some of the other reviews- the workout is great. Forces you to push a bit harder than you normally would and you work up a pretty good sweat. The problem with this gym in particular is that the trainers (at least the ones that taught my classes) are wayyyyy too into themselves. They are inexperienced and more into their own "fitness" than helping the members. 90% of the people in these classes have poor form (not their fault) and could seriously hurt themselves. In my 6 month membership I never saw them help anyone. They are not social. They do not walk around the floor asking about people's results or plans. After class they run back to the front desk and give snide looks to everyone as they walk out. A friend of mine actually heard them complain about how old they are getting (I believe they are in their early 20s). This is just not a professional atmosphere. The basics are getting away from this management. A good gym, especially for classes such as this, should have trainers that care about the members' well-being and success. Just because a few people lost some weight doesn't make them experienced or special. That will happen anywhere. A true trainer will take the time after class to help people. A true trainer will really help motivate people through example and hands on help. A true trainer will make sure no one gets hurt. I understand the hype and fell into it myself since the workout can be great. I suggest finding a gym where you know you'll get support and attention you deserve. Tried my free trial class two days ago (July 1), and so glad I did! Because of my time restrain that day, I signed up in Eugene's class, and his class alone was super! Gonna sign up for 10 week class and see if I'd still be willing to do the kickboxing during the semester, and if my mind still wants to be in it careless of the tough training, gonna be going for 1 year membership! CKO Fanwood is a great! Not only is it an amazing workout, I have met so many great people there. I left briefly, and was so depressed that I moved mountains to be able to get back. It was like coming home. CKO Fanwood feels like family, you can't get any better than that. The workout itself is awesome. I hope you get this message: Hi I am not sure exactly who you are but I wanted to just say a few quick things: I am not sure if one of your classes were with me, but if they were, I'd like to see if we can fix some of the impressions you have on the gym. I personally may have commented from time to time that I am sore from my workouts and it's because of my age. I personally am not in my mid 20s, I am in my mid 30s. Things are a little different each decade of life :-). If that comment of yours was meant towards me, then I apologize, it wasn't meant for others to feel I comfortable. If anything, I feel that letting members know that I am sore as well is reassuring to them that it is normal. Also: regarding the paying attention to form: I personally work (and have worked) at 5 different CKO locations (soon to be 6) and I believe Fanwood instructors pay very close attention to Everyone's form. I confidently estimate that I give about 40 to 50 form tips per every 60 minute class. I am confident that this is in 100% of my classes. If you felt neglected then there may be a good reason. In a gym filled with members, I only can walk over and PERSONALLY stop members which look like they can hurt themselves. People who have "not so great form" are difficult to judge on whether they "want" help or not. Some people are happy with a good workout and aren't looking to take it to the next level. I would hate to look as if I was "nit picking" anyone that doesn't want the criticism. With that said: I must admit that I only 50% of the time after classes, mention that I offer personal training sessions. I usually have a few statements I make after each class and I admit I could be more consistent with the personal training offerings. I am approached quite frequently about form questions and often spend 5 to 10 minutes after class to give free mentoring and if the member wishes to sign up for a full hour personal training then i have a 100% success rate on people seeing and feeling instant results/improvements. One more important thing I want to say is that I personally know all of the trainers very well and I am certain that there are no cases where snide looks are given to any members. I do admit that it is easy to mistake a snide look with a trainer possibly being tired from yelling on the microphone for 1 hour straight plus doing the CKO class (or maybe the instructor is on their 2nd or 3rd class in a row). We (as instructors) always speak after class and before classes about ideas on how to improve orientations, tricks and tips to make people learn technique better, and new combos and moves to build strength in the right areas. So I truly believe that my colleagues and I care about every member and want to see them improve and I don't think there is a way for a member to "bother" us which could result in snide looks. Every criticism has to come from somewhere and I will say to you "point taken". I personally will try to be more aware this potential mistaken look. With hundreds of members, I indeed have a better rapport with some members and may not speak as much to some members.... Point taken. I want to comment on your statement of trainers being wayyy too into themselves but I really can't think of any reason why this may be misconceived. I'd love to hear more from you about why you perceived this, so that no other members get this impression. I indeed care allot about my personal fitness and health and that's why I chose to work at CKO after my 5 years of taking classes. This also adds to my confusion on the inexperienced comment. Some of us have been kickboxing for 6+ years, and others are NASM certified, and others have other martial arts training, like 4 years of tae kwon doe, years of krav maga, and UFC fight club. If we come off as inexperienced, this is definitely a Misunderstanding, but as I said above, you must have come to this conclusion for some reason, so I would love to hear more about it so that we try to ensure that no other members get this impression. In closing, I am sure every single thing in your message can be explained and cleared up and/ or corrected if you come back in and give it another shot. I started CKO Fanwood a little over a year ago. I'm a bit older than your typical CKO addict, but felt that at my age I needed to do something to regain strength and try to get in the best possible shape I could. After speaking with the trainers I felt confident that I could work at my own pace and achieve my goals. I did do a few personal training sessions to work on my form and get some pointers to advance my progress. I think it was a great decision since Samantha is trained to deal with us older folks who have hips, knees, etc... that no longer work the way we wish they did. She taught me to modify my workout and how to work it until I got up to speed. Now I'm able to keep up pretty much. Not saying I'm not spent 2/3 of the way through, but I'm not embarrassing myself and have gained strength, built muscle, have better endurance and dropped some weight. The reason I'm writing this review is to appeal to those 50 and up (I'm 57) to challenge yourself to do what you never thought you could, because you'd be surprised at what you can do. Once we get to a certain age we seem far more focused at what we can not do, rather what we can challenge ourselves to do. It's a great feeling to strive to improve and week by week see and feel the improvement . So, I see all of the positive reviews by the younger people, and I love going to class with them and enjoy their energy. There are people of all ages in class and I have to say, I love being in class with all of them. And I did read the one negative review. And feel badly that she/he didn't get it. The trainers are young and energetic. I would hate to be in class trying to learn from someone who wasn't serious about their own fitness. I have never experienced them not responding to my questions or concerns. I guess we all come from our own personal perspectives. I've never found them to be dismissive iwhen I seek their help. So, to round this up, I have to say this is a fast paced, energetic, tough workout that you will love You will sweat off fat, get stronger each session and gain control of a body that you may have felt betrayed you. You will gain control if you make the commitment . My suggestion is, make the commitment ! Not kidding! Be the best you can be. Let CKO help you achieve your goals! read more

Great workout, great instructors and great management. We joined as a family, and it's been an awesome experience. I've worked out, on and off, for years, and the workouts at CKO at amazing. The workouts you go through hit every muscle and some you didn't know you had. And, you get to punch and kick a heavy bag and get some of your aggressions out. I have no affiliation with the place and no reason to write this review aside from the fact that it is a great form of exercise to pick up if you're sitting around wondering when you'll get back to the gym. Came to this gym for a free trial class, only to find out you have to pay $20 to buy boxing gloves. They don't rent, you can only buy. Was pretty disappointed, they should be more upfront about this cost. read more
