I was sliding forward uncomfortably. I brought a wrench, raised the front of (just)one seat a notch, and then it didn't feel as if I were struggling to stay on. I chose the narrowest, least padded style, similar to a racing bike saddle. The owner told me I was the only one who preferred that kind. There used to be a 'needs fixing' sheet for members to list equipment problems. Some had written complaints that the bike seats were 'tipped.' So, the staff flattened all the seats. I went to Lee, the manager, and asked politely if I could have one seat (just one seat!) adjusted to my comfort. I was met with an expression of surprise and mild annoyance. Denied. The classes were never full so nobody would've been forced to use a 'tipped' seat. But even if all the bikes in the spinning studio had been taken, there were four more in other parts of the gym, which I never saw in use simultaneously. One seat on any of those could've been adjusted without forcing anyone to use a 'tipped' seat. And of course, the seat posts are interchangeable. So, on it went: I'd adjust a single saddle, a staff member would flatten it, and the charade would begin anew. I politely raised the issue with Ruby, the owner; she said she'd put a note on a saddle to not flatten it. A week later she reneged, implying Lee wouldn't allow it. The reasoning: If one was changed, then all could be changed and Lee wasn't willing to deal with that. Denied again. BUT, he accommodated all those who complained about 'tipped' seats. That's not fair. He could've easily worked with me and gotten to 'yes.' The seats are adjustable for a reason. The entire business is BASED on human anatomy, including its--ahem--variations. I was 'nudged' by the former manager shortly after starting my membership. Under my original 4-star rating on this page, she added a note asking me what it would take to add a fifth star. Consistent, prolonged and respectful treatment as a valued member, I would've told her. But, my reasonable requests were repeatedly ignored. A couple of the staff(K and K) seemed to view me as demanding, difficult, and treated me with veiled hostility. And then there's this: The two managers, Lee & Jen, plus Lee's wife, wrote 5-star reviews on this page. These are conflict of interest violations per Google usage rules. So I'm an 48-year-old IT professional and when I first walked into Ultimate Performance Bethesda in late October 2025, I was sitting at about 216 lbs 6 ft tall and roughly 29% body fat--pretty standard unkempt dad bod. Post Covid life had just crept up on me the last 5 years or so and hated what I saw in the mirror . Fast forward five months to later and I'm now @ 178 lbs and sub 18% body fat (It's Late March 2026 now). Honestly, it's been an amazing transformation and I didn't think I'd get such results so quickly. What really stands out about UP is their approach. The training is very focused on hypertrophy, but more importantly, they are big on form and technique. Every rep matters, and they make sure you're doing things the right way. On top of that, their nutrition guidance is super dialed in. They keep it very precise with calorie tracking, which makes a huge difference because that's where most of the results come from. All of the trainers there are experienced and know what they're doing, but I especially want to call out my trainer Mo (Mohammed Ahmed). He's been awesome--great motivator, very knowledgeable, and he knows exactly how to push you without overdoing it. I'm honestly so encouraged by the progress that I'm sticking with it through the summer to try and get to my best shape ever. Yes, it's not cheap--but if you actually follow the program (diet, steps, training), you will get results. Think of all the wasteful "training sessions" you've done at your local gym. It really makes a difference to have a personable trainer instead of someone screaming in your face to give you the extra 10. All in all, AWESOME workout by Eric. This is more than a compliment as I am big runner and I can definitely work out for hours without issues. But Eric gave me a run for my money. There were so many different routines that I felt challenged but never bored. We pulled ropes, we did lunges, we did ab workouts and weight training. He really will customize a workout for you. For me, he made sure to work my entire body finished with abs & stretching. He also told me about the isagenix detox that can help me lose 7-10 lbs in 11 days as he is a believer that no weight training is completed without a diet. The beginning of a year and my new path. After being divorced and out of shape from 6 years of care to others, it was time for care for me. Adian was my first trainer and awoken the joy buried deep inside. I got to a place of acceptance and strength with my body. Which I went over in my first review, the amount of growth and joy I experienced. I had reached a stable point and had to leave until I could dig for more gold to one day return. In the dead of winter, I arose once again, I said, I would be back, and I was. This time with Marques as my new guild in my next phase of life. Marques started with goals, but not just physical goals. He set up mental and spiritual growth. I was asked to make a goal that impacted my life. I said, "I wanted to be stable, financially secure, get out of debt, work on my body where I can use my left ,I have cerebral palsy) as well as my right. I wanted the goal of balancing my outer world and inner world. I was blessed with magic! As the months passed, Not only did I become stronger in my body, but step by step, I got a new job, started to learn how to budget, kicked a shopping addition, planned for my future, found an ancient doctor that works for me to balance my pain and last but not least... They don't have any real weight lifting equipment so you can't power lift and they basically just want everyone to use light weights and bands.
