I always thought a smog check was pretty much an all-or-nothing service. You pull in, they test the car, send the results to the DMV and you're out of there 10 minutes later. How much difference could there really be from one place to another? Turns out, quite a bit. When I got to Alpha Smog Center, Mike greeted me with a smile. The World Cup was on a TV in the background and apparently I wasn't doing a very good job of hiding the fact that I was trying to catch a glimpse of it. Mike noticed right away and invited me into the shop to sit down in a comfortable chair and watch while he took care of the car. I'm pretty sure he even offered me something to drink. The whole thing only took a few minutes, but the point is Mike treated me like a guest instead of just the next car in line. Those little things matter. My only minor complaint is that the location can be a little tricky to find because there are a couple other smog places right around it, so pay attention when you're pulling in. I've had a lot of Smog tests, but god damn this is the best smog test experience I have ever had. Right when I parked someone came to greet me and they were already working on a car. They have a DRINK FRIDGE with soda and water!!! The customer service is the best I have EVER experienced. I started a project on Yelp and talked to Mike who I then met in person. Really nice and the service was lightning fast. Helped that I showed up during the day on Thursday. Pay with CASH and let them know. Value is most competitive and I compared prices. They even gave me a little clear envelope for all the documents. The experience was easy and fast from the start. I received several quotes from different places which were around the same price but the one from Alpha Smog was the best. I get lost easily so was extremely grateful for the signs showing me where to go. When I arrived Mike was welcoming. I mentioned the yelp estimate (as directed by the message) and that's the price I paid out the door.
