I absolutely recommend vista smog! I used to take all my vehicles to a smog station in Oceanside on coast highway, they used to be ok but would get way too technical when it came to older vehicles then refuse to work on them. Vista Smog Center how ever has no problems at all! The young tech was not scared of working on my 1991 Fleetwood Flair motor home, and it only took him 20 minutes! Have any of you with older vehicles experience an excuse like "I can't smog vehicles older than 1999" or "my dyno isn't working"? Or in my case they told me they can't find a vin number on my motor home. Vista Smog didn't do any of those things or make up any excuses, they eagerly went to work. Had to shop around quite a bit because many San Diego County shops are adding on fees for smog tests on SUVs in spite of what their coupons said. Was glad to find Vista Smog Center. Confirmed price over the phone matched their coupon. Arrived just before closing. Recommend avoiding evening rush hour between 78 and their shop- took about 15 minutes just to get that far. Compared to other shops I've been to in the north county area, Axel's service was exceptional. The inspections appeared to be thorough. Afterwards, I was asked if I had any questions. This is unusual- other shops act as if the only goal is to escape quickly with a smog certificated saying the vehicle passed. I'd go here again in spite of the distance from my home and recommend it to folks who want more from their money than a piece of paper. read more

This place is JOKE. Went to get a smog test and it failed. He said it was tampered with. Took it to my mechanic to fix. Vista Smog said I could bring it back within 30 days for a $28 re-check. I paid full price for 1st test Plus fees. I went back about a week later and he refused to re-test it. It seems he thought I was trying to trick or trap him in some way. He's nuts!! don't go there. Never had to get a smog check before so I was worried it would be a pain in the booty of an errand, but I literally just showed up, sat around a few mins, and then got my certificate! Easy!!! One thing I'll say is: if you find a discount online you actually have to ask them to apply the discount. I dropped an inquiry out to what I thought was one Star Smog station but Yelp sent to a few. Vista got back to me the fastest and ended up being the best price by quite a bit. We have a van and it didn't cost an additional fee. For me, it was a bit of a drive but figured it was worth it. No appointments so just drove up. Luckily, there was only one car ahead of me so I just had to wait about 5-10 minutes. Took them about 15 minutes to complete my job. While I was waiting, a few more people drove in. There's only one extra spot to park along a curb (across from the bay) while waiting so if there's more than a couple people, you'll need to come back. You can't drop off. This was a pleasant experience after being on hold with the dmv all day I needed to get my car smogged today. I am that wait til the last minute person (unfortunately for me). I drove over without an appointment at about 3 pm and Axel was just finishing a smog and said to pull my car in when he pulled the other one out. I was shocked and lucky that there was no wait. Pulled my car in gave Axel the pertinent info (I didn't even have the registration renewal slip with me (went to former address) and left him with the car. He said it would be about 15 minutes. The car before me didn't pass which got me worried because my car is older. I sat outside under a canopy, there's no inside area that I saw. It was a nice day so I didn't mind at all. It took the 15 minutes he said and he brought my car to me. It passed. Phew! I had a few questions and he was happy to answer! Just a nice guy! Thank you Axel!!! Also, the coupon they provide made it really reasonable. I have an suv and most places up charge for that, they don't. I believe all cars cost the same except diesels.
