It was Saturday evening when we pulled into the gas station where this auto repair shop is located. Alex is the mechanic we met, and he was super nice. Told us how much it would cost to check the tire, then patch it if needed. So he checked, found a nail, did a patch, and we were done within 20 minutes or so. Now, being men, we had to keep it together to calm the women and children and act like everything was alright ("no, I'm sure it's fine, it's probably a standard light that comes on at exactly 174,396 miles, the dealerships do it on purpose"). Mortally afraid and running on pure adrenaline, I did the unthinkable. I simply opened my yelp app and found A1 repair by filtering hours open and proximity to our location. Even now as I recall the event, I am shocked at how rational I was behaving under such extenuating circumstances. But I digress. The time was was 7:55 pm on a Friday night. We were 13 minutes away. Yelp indicated A1 closed at 8 PM. We weren't gonna make it. We were going to be stranded on a desert highway with nothing but sasquatch and axe murdered to keep us company at night. While us men were busy occupying ourselves with how we were going to fight off mythical creatures at night, suddenly, our female in the car did the impossible: she called Jasen, the friendly service technician, to see if he wouldn't mind staying open for another ten minutes, due to our obviously dire needs. Generously and professionally, he agreed and promptly help us to diagnose our check engine light, which turned out to be only a minor thing and nothing that couldn't wait til the next service appointment at the dealership. He even offered to guide me through the insurance process to keep them from low-balling me on the repair cost. After getting estimates from maybe 6 shops, these guys seemed just a little more engaged and/or honest than the others--for a fair price. Throughout the entire process, I spoke with several employees who were all patient, professional, and kind. During the repair, I was sent several updates--with pictures--and the communication was excellent. Ice storms caused a short delay (delayed parts arrival, etc), but I was kept updated through texts, emails, and phone calls. My fender was damaged in a hit-and-run, but it now looks as good as new with perfectly blended paint too. Plus, the interior of my car came back cleaner than when I brought it in (the cupholders were even cleaned), with a plastic mat placed over my driver's side floor mat. Definitely my new go-to auto repair.

When I called with questions Stephanie seemed irritated that I was asking for clarification and was very short with me. I was simply trying to understand the process. I also had an unpleasant interaction with Amber at the front desk, who came across as rude and dismissive. When I later visited the shop and asked to speak with the owner about my concerns, I was told I could not speak with him because he was busy. When I attempted to explain the issues I had experienced, Stephanie became defensive and eventually walked away from the conversation without addressing my concerns. I understand that body shops are busy and stressful environments, but customers deserve to be treated with respect when asking reasonable questions about their vehicle and insurance claim. The quality of the repair may be fine, but the customer service I received was disappointing enough that I would not choose this shop again.

It started to get dark and was very cold and rainy. No one local responded to a roadside assistance bidding call. These people drove quite a distance to get to me, and were 100% kind and gracious. They were professional and knowledgeable, but more than that, they clearly viewed me as a person more than just a job. They were down-to-earth, warm, calm, and capable, and they tried various things until the situation was resolved. Then at the end, they didn't rush away instantly but followed through and ensured I was safely on my way. Highly recommended.
