Though I tend to have a DIY approach to most of my own tech problems, I still get tripped up from time to time. After exhausting all of my options for a faulty operating system and failing motherboard, a quick Yelp search lead me to Alphax Computer and they really came through in a big way. The reviews were so true: these guys really know their stuff. It all starts with an online order. Go to their website, fill out some forms and describe the issue as thoroughly as possible. They'll eventually confirm through email correspondence and mention the best time to come by. When they first opened, they were situated in the back of a hardware store along Greenpoint Ave. Run by a couple of Chinese guys, tt wasn't exactly obvious on where to start since the operation felt so informal and dare I say, amateur. But alas after confirming my order I left my setup with them and they mentioned everything I needed (replacement mobo, reinstallation of vintage Windows OS) would take up to 48 hours. They managed to call me back the next day. Machine was ready and I couldn't be happier. Of course, they won't charge if they can't fix the issue and will breakdown the pricing options ahead of time. Usually it's not too pricey, but the more complicated the issue, the more they'll charge. It's still fair pricing compared to services elsewhere, which is another positive aspect of their service. They've since moved onto a better space along Greenpoint and I've become a repeat customer. Whenever I'm strapped for time and unwilling to attempt the fix, I turn to these guys instead. They were great. Internet kept cutting out and I thought it was bc of the used 2017 MacBooks we got on Amazon. So we got new laptops and still had the problem. I work in medical and we need internet for patient charting so good internet is very important. So we contacted these guys. Very reasonable price. We contacted a few others on yelp w good reviews and these guys seemed to be a good balance when it came to price/reviews. They also offered a free consult w an on site visit which is something I really wanted. So we went with them and since then, internet has been pretty close to perfect. Before it was dropping every day, multiple times a day. But I can't really remember losing connection since they fixed it. It's been about 2 months now and I don't remember the last time when I was sitting there absolutely frustrated that the stupid internet wasn't working again. I'm a little hesitant to say it's perfect, but we haven't had an issue since then, and it's been pretty smooth sailing as far the internet goes. I gotta say. Hinge broke on my sister's HP laptop. HP quoted me over $400 for the repair after taxes (though I suspect it could have actually been much more since they never even saw the actual damage.) I brought in an iPad 8th gen. with a completely shattered screen, that my daughter had dropped something on. mid center. I tried to remove and replace the digitizer myself, but quickly realized it was beyond my abilities to remove the screen after countless youtube videos, as glass was starting to shatter everywhere. The guy was able to use a replacement screen I had bought on Amazon and was even able to re-use the existing home button with touch ID with this replacement screen. They are lifesavers. I highly recommend AlphaX Tech. I was experiencing issues with my PC and I was very fortunate that Quan was available same day to take a look at my computer. He arrived in about an hour and I was also fortunate that the computer started to "fail" within 15 minutes of his poking around. (Tip: take a video of whatever is going on so he can diagnose it easily). I needed a new graphics card. While he was poking around, he told me that my SSD hard drive was degrading and so I had him upgrade that too since he was opening the unit. This was on Saturday. I got the PC back on Monday (whew!) And I was able to turn the PC on and start working where I had left off! So happy!! (They were able to clone the hard drive). Quan also taught me how to open the unit so that I could vacuum the dust and he recommended that I do so every six months so that the fans can work and the components don't overheat (yeah I am a relative newbie wrt computer maintenance). Ok, in case your still not sure about hiring these two guys, Today is the third time I have had them do work on my PC.

After an extremely unsuccessful hour-long phone call with Dell, in which I was told I'd have to ship my laptop to them to have the battery replaced, & told they would hold it hostage for 2 weeks, with various ransom prices depending on what shipping speed and warrantee levels I would pay for, I then had a similar experience with Best Buy (who couldn't even supply the replacement battery). A search into local computer repair brought me to AlphaX Computer and Qwan. He was extremely knowledgeable, reassuring & calming by phone, so I brought my laptop in with the battery I had ordered on Amazon, and he proceeded to back up my data and replace the battery, which took a little under an hour. The office is on the second floor and you have to buzz what appears to be an apartment building's call box to get in and access the elevator. BUT once I got past the moderately confusing entrance, I was very happy with the service! He replaced my screen with a genuine Apple iPhone screen in 30 minutes(!) and while the price was a little higher than some other local stores (I believe I paid $130?), it was a perfect repair. Sent my laptop in for change of battery and I got it back with a crack on shell on one side (sign of being dropped) but worse...the brightness function does not work. The only way for me to use the laptop and the monitor be bright is to have it plugged in... which in turn will burn out the newly installed battery...kinda defeats the purpose of getting a replacement battery in the first place.
