Han and Quan are amazingly service-oriented and technically adept technicians. I began with an older Dell Dimension 4550 tower that I wanted cleaned up for better performance and to transfer some files from a laptop to that tower. At the same time, Staples was running an incredible sale on a Lenovo mini tower that made it senseless to upgrade the Dell with a larger hard drive and a dvd optical drive -- the ram had already been maxed out at 2gb. Lo and behold, I took the new Lenovo to the guys at Alphaurax and they transferred all files over to the new Lenovo for me without tacking on any extra service fees. They were so courteous in addressing the added task and in answering my very tech-unsophisticated questions. I used the yelp $10-for-$20 offer and my total expenditure totalled less than $100.00. : ) This is the kicker on how kind these guys are: once I arrived in Los Angeles, I downloaded IE8 on my laptop and it stopped connecting to the internet. With some concern, I called Alphaurax and reached Han. He patiently walked me through the process of restoring the laptop to a prior point in time when the computer was connecting to the internet -- at no charge. Amazing customer service. These guys were amazing!!! I needed to get my laptop fixed after it crapped out on me again after I had taken it somewhere else. My laptop would frequently overheat and I destroyed by video card. i took it to someplace in jackson heights. They fixed it and threemonths later my laptop was giving the same problem. I brought my laptop to Alphaurax and they not only replace my video card but also installed apps to my laptop to help me avoid it from happening again. I now have an app that tell me the temperature of my laptop and I can control the fan speed on my laptop. Alphaurax were true professionals. They were extremely nice, friendly, and communicative of what they were doing with my laptop. If I EVER have any problem with any electronic I'll call these guys first before anyone. This suited my needs perfectly. I had spilled water on my PC laptop and it turned out I needed my hard drive recovered. I have no idea what I would have done if it weren't for Han's and Quan's help with my computer. After many years of being ripped off by Best Buy's Geek Squad, I decided to find a place that would be better worth my money. I discovered Alphaurax Computer through Yelp, and after seeing how happy customers were with their experiences here, I decided to give it a try. I'm so happy that I did! When I came here for the first time, I was a little surprised that it's located in the back of a hardware store, so naturally I had thought I was at the wrong place. But there's a sign in the front saying "computer repair," so I knew I wasn't completely lost. I believe Han was the one who worked on my laptop, and he was quick and efficient. After performing a diagnostic scan (which is free!), he contacted me the following day and let me know what I needed to do. He was honest and I knew that he wasn't trying to rip me off. I got my computer back 3 days after I turned it in. Normally, I would have to wait an entire week for Geek Squad to contact me. Less than a month later, my computer started having problems again, so I went back to Han and Quan. They have a one month warranty policy which basically says that they won't charge you if you bring your computer back within a month after repair and the computer has the same problem as before. My problem turned out to be a bad hard drive that needed to be replaced, so they changed my hard drive and put in a new one. True to their word, I didn't have to pay a penny! Now my computer is faster than before! If you are looking for someone who is honest and trustworthy, and won't try to rip you off, definitely come here. Not to be redundant, but I LOVE this place. I had two computers with issues-- they gave me advice on how to fix one myself, then they took the other one, evaulated it, and fixed it quickly and well. It cost much less than it would at a chain place. Now I almost wish something else would break just so I could go to them again. Just a heads-up: They work out of space in the back of a hardware store. So when you find the address, you'll think you're in the wrong place, but you just have to walk to the back of the store to find them. read more

My computer was a piece of crap from the day I bought it, truth be told. So when it deteriorated further I just figured it was getting old, but finally it got to the point where it was unusable and rather than get a new one I figured I'd give these guys a shot. Turns out my computer had a virus. They were going to remove the virus, but my friend had told me to ask them about changing the operating system since I had Vista (not something they themselves had suggested). I ended up doing just that. The guy I picked my computer up from also took the time to explain to me why I should be using certain programs over others and gave me a little advice on keeping my computer happy. The price came out to a very cool and breezy $96 and my computer is now running fast and problem free. Not too bad! They did say they would call me but I always ended up calling them. At one point they actually told me they would call me when the computer was ready for pickup. I called the day it was supposed to be ready and they said I could come pick it up at anytime. If it was ready I'm not sure why they didn't call, but they don't seem too fond of using the phone. The only other issue I have is that I had to get all my data backed up, including my bookmarks. Hundreds of bookmarks from one specific folder were simply gone, and I used them pretty frequently so that's been a major inconvenience. Overall I'm pleased with the end result, and it was far cheaper than getting a new laptop or even getting a new OS installed elsewhere (hence the 4 stars), but I'd be wary of letting them back up my data in the future. read more

My Dell laptop wouldn't start-up and did a 7 beep. Researched it and was not up to all the You Tube recommendations and attempting to buy parts and do it myself. I didn't want to go to Geek Squad as they are the only service I've used before. I found these guys searching "laptop repair, Sunnyside." They didn't free diagnostic and gave their thoughts about what the problem could be and the pricing. They called me when they figured it out (graphics card went bad) and confirmed the cost to repair $180+ tx. They are very knowledgable, set the proper expeditions of turn around time, etc and followed through as they promised. This place is fantastic! Highly Recommended. We had an external HD that started failing, and Alphaurax was able to recover everything for a very reasonable cost. What can I say that hasn't been said??? I called these guys up at 9:55 am on the dot (even though they open at 10:00 am---perhaps they're dilly dallying around until opening....) No answer. I hang up. Exactly at 10:00 I receive a call on my cell and I'm thinking, "Is this the number i just called?" Yep. They were calling me back even though I didn't leave a message. From there everything was smooth sailing. Needed a memory upgrade for my 13" MacBook Pro which was purchased in 2011. They took the time to explain EVERYTHING to me. I almost wanted to say, "I don't care!!! Just make it happen!!!!!" I dropped my laptop off in the morning and it was ready by the end of the day. You can't beat that with a bat!! This is simple... they have now fixed 3 laptops for me, all Mac's. One Mac book pro for work, and two older white mac books. My work Mac book pro needed the connection wires from the hard drive to the motherboard. They could have just changed my hard drive first but they actually tested the connection and that was all it needed. I ended up upgrading my hard drive and it was all a fair price($379.97). Even if I did it myself I would not have saved that much I looked up everything on line totally fair prices. The other two White mac books needed hard drives. The last one was upgraded from an 80GB to a 500GB(not solid state) for $239.53. They transferred all the data and it was like a new laptop. They are also pretty quick, my work laptop took 3 days since they did not have the connection wire, the other two done in 24 hours. read more

The hard drive on my laptop had crashed, before I was even sure that I had fully & completely backed up the contents to an external hard drive. I figured even if I had lost everything, it would still be worth it to try and get it fixed by someone rather than buy a new computer, or worse, send it back to HP. Not only were they able to restore all my data (!!!), but they installed a new hard drive as well as the Windows software back onto the computer for what I considered to be a reasonable price. I had a macbook pro with a cracked glass thanks to my lovely 3yr old messing with it without me knowing. Anyways, i was given a fair quote and went with them to fix. Was told it could take 5-7 days but i needed the laptop back for use at my job tuesday. They gave me a loaner macbook air until mine was fixed. They very next day it was fixed and fixed properly ! I went to these guys after I spilled lemonade on my computer a few weeks ago. I was really upset, as it is a 5 month old MacBook Air. They were able to fix this computer for me and give it back in less than a week. When I got it back, I realized I had a problem with my "S" key that I didn't have before. I brought the computer back to them and they were able to fix it on the spot without charging me. If I ever have another problem with my computer, I will definitely go back to them to get it fixed! I knocked off one star despite the excellent service, because right after I first dropped it off, I was not contacted regarding the status of the repair. I dropped off the computer on a Tuesday evening and was told that I would receive a phone call on Wednesday for an explanation of services. I spent the whole day Wednesday waiting for a phone call that never came, so I contacted them that night. I was also told it would take two days for them to fix, but on Friday evening, I still had not heard about my computer. As soon as I contacted them again, though, I received a response. The repair was awesome, and they answered all my questions, but I just wish they would have kept me in the loop about the laptop repair process. read more

Went back to these guys. They seem to be getting busier as Yelpers do like them. I have to say I felt the prices this time were a little more steep but I have to look past that as they are running a business and aren't your buddy coming over to tweak your system. I did get my pc back quickly (power supply replacment) and when I turn it on now it beeps that my fan is having an error. When I called them back up he tried to explain (unclearly and rushing) how to adjust my fan speed in the BIOS to possible correct the issue. I tried his unclear instructions and it didn't work. Now I have an annoying fan error beep on start up that I have to press F1 to ignore. My presenting problem was something commonly known as the Blue Screen of Death AKA BSOD. Anyone who is at least somewhat PC savvy knows that BSOD is an incredibly annoying and often difficult problem to diagnose and treat... specifically if there is file corruption. So I drove my custom built PC down to Sunnyside after reading positive reviews. I sort of felt like I was taking my sick child to the hospital. I was really worried that my very expensive high-end machine was going to die a young (less than 1 year old). I explained to the guys what was wrong with my PC. I also showed them some photos I took with my phone of the errors. This saved them some time. They promised to run diagnostic tests. They were also super friendly and chatted a bit with me about my build. Really friendly guys! They told me that the diagnostic tests would be free of charge and my PC should be ready within 1-2 days. I returned to pick up my PC and was given wonderful news that issue with my PC was just faulty RAM. A cheap fix that would only cost around $50. My particular RAM has a lifetime warranty which means the manufacturer will just replace it free. Not only were the owners able to tell me that my RAM was causing the issue but they were able to isolate which RAM stick was faulty. An extra step they did not have to take and certainly took up more of their time. I greatly appreciated everything these guys did for me. I asked them if I could offer them money just for their time but they insisted the diagnostic tests were free of charge. They even carried my PC out to my car for me. Could not thank them enough. They picked up my (heavy ass mofo) gaming PC from my home, spent 3 days diagnosing it (calling me every day with updates and telling me what they did), and then returned it to my house. They helped me identify a problem with a fan controller with shoddy wiring that was causing crashes and hangs on my system. They did all this, and charged me nothing (zip!) for the diagnosis, and $30 for the pickup/return of my 35 lb PC. I feel blessed that I live just 7 blocks away from these computer angels. Very positive experience! I came in after my spouse and I's attempt at re-assembling my iPhone 6 went poorly. After replacing the antenna flex cable, we inadvertently put the logicboard in wrong and couldn't figure out why the phone wasn't working properly. After a quick phone call with someone at Alphaurax, we brought the iPhone in and the person at Alphaurax quickly diagnosed the problem. 30 minutes later the phone was fixed. I can't recommend these guys highly enough. Quan runs the operation and he is as helpful as is humanly possible. Before I ever gave him any real busines I called several times and it was like getting expert tech support over the phone! After the 3rd call I practically begged him to charge me for his time! The issue was that he doesn't make house calls, despite my quite close proximity to his shop. I ended up lugging the tower into his office for some repair and a cleaning. My old-ish laptop pooped out. This was my only laptop. I've had it for 5 years, and have never backed up a single file. My IT-guy friend told me, the hard drive was probably shot and my files were gone. FML... Thankfully, I didn't listen to him, and dragged my big, old laptop to Alphaurax. The guys were very positive. He agreed it was probably a hard-drive problem, but said there's no reason he couldn't restore the files. SCORE!
