This place has the worst customer service. Two unpleasant women at the front desk, don't care about any of their customers. They have a stove in the room with no protection to children. One of our kids came close to the stove (not knowing it's hot - the sign was very high) and burnt her arm off of her jacket. No apologies. No compensation. We only got "as a mother you should watch were your kids are going". This happened in a matter of seconds. In addition, they charged us double for our trip and we had to call back to ask for a refund. Let me start off by saying that we are major dog people and I can tell you these dogs are extremely well taken care of and healthy. Every dog can't wait to be petted and they love people and that's a sign of a happy healthy dog. The Alpine team was so nice and sweet and we loved Bleu our guide. Communication is the biggest downfall. We purchased a groupon at Christmas, for which we wanted to reserve a spot ahead of time. When I first called, the front desk person said I could not make a reservation yet because "they didn't know how to make reservation for a Groupon yet." It took me a few dedicated calls to finally find someone who could help me. Once arriving to the ranch, you go into the "office" to sign in. We came 30 minutes early as instructed and had to wait inside listening to the front desk ladies have unprofessional personal conversations about "Facebook","hitting the liquor store", and talking rudely about customers while they had them on hold. Maybe phone calls need to be taken in private? Where they can be candid without guests hearing them. When we got with our guide things got a whole lot better. The dogs are well loved and love what they do. It's a cool experience. We would recommend it, however, we think the guest communication piece needs a lot of work. read more

If you end up cancelling the reservation, regardless of how fast you do it (in my case it was less than 24 hours since I made the booking) and how far away the reservation date is from the day you cancel (in my case 2+ weeks) they still charge you a service fee. For me this fee was in excess of $40. Not acceptable considering I gave more than reasonable notice. read more

Justin was an awesome guide for our group dog sledding activity. Even though we were grouped with another larger group with kids, he was very accommodating and thorough with safety & having a good time. We also enjoyed playing with and feeding the dogs near their kennels. Highly recommend for families and couples. Dress warm and bring shades because there's literally nothing out there for miles, and winds can get nasty. When you drive out there, be careful of any sudden snow patches on the road on flat spots - snow can blow onto the road from the sides in the plains... I almost crashed :P read more

It was an awesome experience! The transportation was convenient. It was very cold. I had two leggings, snow pants, long sleeve, fleece, jacket, two pairs of socks, and waterproof boots on. My feet got very, very cold! I would recommend wearing warmer boots or more socks. They were able to squeeze in a one person ride with just a couple days notice. Took a trip close to Christmas for myself and my parents, arrived a little early to some complementary hot cocoa, which was greatly appreciated. We had a fantastic guide and got to meet each of our 12 sled dogs. We learned about each dogs role in the team and how to tune their positions to benefit the team! We took turns leading the team and bundling up on our trip around a huge area. Once we returned we got to love on the dogs of our team and all the other ones that had the day off thanks to their open kennel policy! This was a once in a lifetime bucket list trip my parents always had and look forward to the next trip! read more

She booked it a few weeks in advance, at which point they redeemed the Groupon, then the tour got cancelled and a very rude woman on the phone wasn't able to help her reschedule. Wow! Mush!!!!!' We had a fabulous experience here. I have never been dog sledding and Alpine Adventures was a great place to start. We came in from Vail and arrived a bit early. We were able to make final adjustments to our gear and use Alpines snow pants and boots if needed. We met our guide and lead dog Denali. Zach was a vet Marine and a true outdoors man. He took us to our team of 12 dogs; all waiting and howling to get a move on. We met each of them and proceeded to help hook them up. A cacophony of barks and howls filled the crisp sunny afternoon air. We reserved the private tour with two sleds hooked together. We we're all allowed to (drive,lead,mush) the dogs or sit tucked Into the sleds in blankets and cushions. Zach was a fabulous guide and filled us in on all things canine and Colorado. He loved those dogs, as do we. We fed them treats, lunch and put them away at the end. We we're asked to vote for our favorite dog who would get steak on NY eve. The dogs were smaller than I expected but were specially bred for the sleds. We saw the retirement dogs (adoption) nursing dogs and new puppies. We went an average of 10 mph which did not scare the snow pants off of me. Loved it, recommend it, try it. Tip-bring sunscreen. read more

Let me start off by saying our tour guide was awesome. He was personable and knowledgeable. If it weren't for him, this review would be accompanied by 1 star or less if possible. The woman working the front desk was unfriendly given how expensive this outing was. Our group of two was about 7 minutes late (trip started at 11:45 AM and we were supposed to have been there at 11:15 AM). We got there at about 11:22 AM and she made a very snide comment about how the guide had been waiting on us. I get it, we were a few minutes late but when you are paying over $400 (this included two sandwiches to take home and a tip for the guide) for about 45 minutes of dog sledding, I'd expect the people running the business to be less rude and more accommodating. We chose the Tagsled (1-3 people, no snowmobile, all dog-powered) tour as we wanted privacy and were celebrating a birthday withing the group. The tour consisted of a figure 8-type route in an open field with views of Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. It is a pretty scene, generally, and we got some good pictures. That being said, I could not imagine spending that much money ever again to do what we did. I wouldn't recommend this outfit if you're looking into dog sledding with a group or with one other person.. You should find something that takes you through the woods, stops for the packed lunch, etc... It was overpriced. I have no problem spending this much money for a great activity, but this was grossly underwhelming. Again, the guide was great and the dogs seemed to be enjoying themselves. read more

A great way to spend some time if you're in the area. The dogs are super happy to run and well taken care of. I grew up on a farm and know when animals are mistreated. This is an authentic experience in the lower 48 and if you're expecting resort facilities, you're re not going to get that. It's a rustic adventure in cloud city. Highest elevation so be prepared. Folks are knowledgeable and we loved the complimentary pick in Vail by Fiona and Joey her sweetest ever dog! This was a truly terrible experience. I tried to contact the business owners directly after our truly awful experience but they refused to respond. My friend and i decided to take our two little kids dog sledding. She had been before in Keystone and had had a great experience as you would imagine with a guided dog sled through the woods with healthy, happy dogs. We tried to book them but they were full so we found Alpine. This was not that. Upon arrival, the place looks like Deliverance with a rotting shed and full porta potties that haven't been emptied in a while. You sign a waiver in said shed and then our 'guide' brought us out to the sled. Now if you are picturing something like the horse drawn carriages by Central Park but smaller, think again. These were more like a canoe on rails with a sack wrapped around it. And the poor dogs! They were skinny and matted sitting out in the open cold. Then we were told that one of us would have to drive the sled while the other of us sat in the sack with the two littles. Our 'guide' would be driving ahead of us on a vehicle. We were told to be alert to the bowel movements and urination of the animals and to adjust the driving instructions accordingly. Upon taking off, our guide kept turning around and berating us because we weren't paying attention fast enough to slow down when the dogs were pooping and peeing. He then chastised us saying that he needed to be looking ahead not making sure we weren't noticing the dog's bowl movements. So we felt like we couldn't look around and needed to be staring at the dogs rear ends. Fun! Did I mention it was $270? Not to mention that it is no scenic run. We basically drove around a flat field with zero change of scenery forced to look at dog's a**holes. It was so uncomfortable that one of our kids stood up and started sobbing. Once we decided we couldn't continue, we needed to be rescued but instead of just turning us around on the flat field to get back to the shed, they needed to radio for someone to come get us. Our guide was very sweet about trying to keep our girl cold - I will say that. I emailed the owners afterwards to discuss the experience and give them a chance to respond but was stonewalled. It was such a bad experience. I only take to Yelp to write 5* experiences unless I think something is so bad as to be abusive. read more

We had a great experience dog-sledding at Alpine Adventures! My husband and I enjoyed a private tagsled tour and switched between riding in the first sled and driving the second sled halfway through. It was a fairly cold day with some pretty big gusts of wind and snow, but we were adequately dressed for the conditions and stayed very warm the entire time. We loved that we were introduced to all of the dogs on our team before our tour and that we got to help unhook and feed them after our tour was over. We even got to tour the kennel and play with the new puppies at the ranch. The tour was very personal and we were surprised at how much we learned about sledding/racing and each of the individual dogs on our team. It was very apparent that the guides take great care of their teams and know each of the dogs' personalities and traits inside and out. The shuttle pick up was really convenient for us as we were on vacation with a larger group and did not have use to our vehicle for the day. The drive between Vail and Leadville is breathtaking, but be aware it is a slow drive through winding mountain passes. It was not an issue for us, but some riders on our shuttle did not realize how long of ride it was going to be. Overall it was an amazing time and a trip we'll never forget! read more

I very rarely leave bad reviews...Go elsewhere and Stay away... the dogs and guide were wonderful but unfortunately the office staff was so incredibly cold. As I was paying with my back to the room, my 7 year old daughter leaned on the wood burning stove that had no protection around it (and it needed it) and it burned the arm off her coat. Thank God it was a thick coat and she was not burned! When I told them about it, it didn't phase them one little bit. This stove is used to heat the place and there is no gate around it. When I explained what a danger this was to others and Especially children coming in from the cold - they pointed to a sign way up on the wall. So congratulations on being legally covered but a child/family could be devastated by this. There was also MUCH confusion over what was covered in the package - I had an idea but they said since we had 8 people they made an adjustment and they told me they only really explain how it works if someone asks that I should have figured it out on their website. Then got home and realized they charged my credit card two times. When I called to get the refund they did do it but no apologies and said "no problem". When I offered constructive advice about the stove she told me that I should have been watching her...I'm a bad mother. When they have a very dangerous environment and don't take responsibility for anything- it was all excuses and it was all my fault. This is terrible customer service. The dogs and guide were wonderful. I hope they get employed somewhere that cares about its customers. Be warned. read more

I was very impressed by this company. We went up on Christmas with a large group. Everyone had a great time. We had 4 of their guides for our large group and the guides were able to change the adventure to fit the desires of each person. Some wanted speed, some needed more guidance, and some just wanted to ride. They went above and beyond to be sure we were all comfortable and safe. They gave lots of background on the dogs and the area. We are looking forward to going again. The experience and fun is worth the drive and cold. We had kids from age 9 and up and several adults on our trip. read more

When I expressed how unhappy I was about this and said I wasn't going to use or recommend them the lady on the phone said "That's fine, Goodbye."
