I've been wanting to check this place out for quite a while! I was running errands and happened to drive past Alquisiras Paleteria so of course I had to stop! It was a warm day so I decided to get a large agua Fresca (cucumber and lime flavor) and a mango popsicle. They have so many great popsicle flavors that it made it hard to choose. The service was great! They have a few tables outside so I sat outside while enjoying my goodies. A few weeks later, I stopped back in to try some tacos. I tried a carnitas taco and a Lengua taco. Both were delicious. They are served with cilantro, onion, lime, and two of their house sauces. I definitely will be back because they have some fun menu items that I want to try! read more

This place was fire! Super good, fresh, and tasty. It wasn't overly seasoned, or overtly americanized. Just awesome food, and their hibiscus agua frescas were SO GOOD!!! My friends and I came here because we heard it was good, and it definitely met that expectation. Fantastic birria tacos! They had an excellent cheese crust and the consome paired so well (though the filling was juicy enough that not really needed). Their aguas frescas were also very refreshing, and while on the sweeter side I easily finished one of their large sizes of the horchata. Saw a review of it from a friend and was intrigued to stop by. The prices were higher than I expected but still fair. Three tacos and a soup for $17. Tacos were amazing. The meat makes it some of the best tacos I've had. I like how the carnitas have a bit of skin and fat in it, makes the meat more juicy and tender. Soup was a bit on the salty side but it had a lot of beef in it, making it very filling. The corn on cob was wonderful. Highly recommended. Personally thought it was the best part of the meal. They have a selection of Mexican beverages and ice pops as well. I came specifically to try the mango with chili powder, as it reminds me of 酸嘢, which is pickled and spicy fruit that was a specialty of where I grew up. It tasted almost just like that so I was pleasantly surprised. Food was fast and service was fantastic. The reviews say they don't speak English but I felt that they spoke fairly good English. Lucky for me, they recently also added taco options with meats unheard of around here, exactly what I am missing in my life and what I was used to when living in Tejas. In short: Soups: Menudo!! Pozole!! Consume'!! Caldo de Rez! I never thought I would ever hear these words again or eat it unless I go back down South! Comes with all the toppings you need: Chiles, onions, ciliantro, salsa, tortillas, oregano, etc! So so good. Tacos: got a taste of the lengua and barbacoa and quite impressed. On a scale of documentaries to novels, Alquisiras Paleteria reminds me of The House of Broken Angels by Luis Alberto Urrea. Story and food transport consumers, and Alquisiras Paleteria did exactly that. Walking into this restaurant feels like you were just transported to another country -- from the décor to the menu. While the restaurant does show some wear and tear, it is clearly a community staple, and the food blew my mind. We ordered a quesadilla, enchiladas, a tostada, and two cups of corn as well as horchata. And I'm already dreaming of returning for another serving of quesadilla, tostadas, and the horchata! WOW, this meal was astoundingly delicious, and I'm excited to return to try the tacos! If you love a meal that feels wholly authentic, Alquisiras Paleteria is a must. read more

Wow! Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Food was excellent and served piping hot. And made to order. I had been working outside of the area the last few years and this was my first visit. What a semi-hidden gem. I had the horchata which I could have drank by the gallon and the enchiladas verdes. Both outstanding! I also got the corn in a cup. It was good but not the highlight of the meal. I was too full to order ice cream or one of the dessert bars but next time I will. The dining area is small and can get loud, but don't let that stop you. Also, the menu is small but that's usually a good sign that what they offer is good and it's delicious here. read more

This place has been on my list to try for about a year so I was so hype to finally make it out here! When you first walk in there's a few tables and you order at the counter. The place isn't fancy so I knew the food would hit! We got some tacos, tostadas & soles. We also got some fruit agua Fresca and horchata. This ain't taco bell so it's going to take some time for your food to be prepared. So keep that in mind! But everything was great. We were too full to finish but definitely had room for a popsicle. I had the mango flavor and it was delicious. So refreshing and there were little bits of mango all throughout the popsicle. I bought a bunch more to take home! A very no-frills but solid food destination. We ordered the Birria tacos with the soup, the quesadilla dorda (fried quesadilla), elote, and horchata. The birria tacos were very filling and homely. They were not spicy as expected, but still very good. It came with a side of cilantro, hot sauce, limes, and onions. The quesadilla felt like a more traditional feel made with what I assumed is Oaxaca cheese. It had incredible cheese pull and the portions were gracious. I would not recommend coming into this restaurant with American expectations of Mexican food. For my partner, their favorite was the birria tacos. My shining star was the horchata--I ordered two for myself! It was delicious, less cinnamon than at other places with a great creamy sweet vanilla taste. Best horchata I've had ever! read more

Delicious. I came here for lunch today and had no clue what I wanted. As soon as I saw pozole on the menu though, I knew I had to have it! I also knew for sure I wanted horchata. I almost got a carne asada taco on top of this, but then the wonderful young girl at the register (daughter of the owners) notified me the soup came with a tostada, so I axed the taco. Food did not come out right away, but that's likely because everything is made fresh and because of the time of the day. The pozole was huge, and the tostada that accompanied it was well-stacked. Everything tasted amazing and authentic. Hands down the best Mexican food I've had so far in Pittsburgh, and it reminds me of the great food I could find back home in Cali. It's always difficult to find good Mexican food in the area. I would say the focus seems to be higher on the desserts such as ice cream and popsicles. This place is definitely authentic Mexican. I stopped by for a torta. I ordered the Cubana Torta. The bread was huge and the amount of fillings were adequate. I've seen them stuffed higher with more meats, but that's ok it wasn't as they can be too large. The portion was still a big lunch, but I was able to finish it. My husband and I stopped over here after reading about their homemade Popsicle. They have outdoor seating here and inside is a small cafe with seating area. The entire menu is in Spanish so you have to ask the counter lady to interpret everything for you. They do serve lunch items here including tacos all for a reasonable price. BTW some of the prices aren't listed on the board I was looking at so you have to ask. The is a listing of prices for food items. Their specialty is both their homemade popsicles and homemade Mexican ice cream. I did ask about vegan options. Some of the popsicles are made using water instead of milk and I was told they would be in the first row of the freezer I was looking at. They carry standard flavors but also unusual ones such as chili with mango Popsicle or strawberry and creme Popsicle. I decided to go with the latter. Popsicles sell for $2.50 each. My husband got a lime one. We sat down to eat them and man they were nearly frozen solid! But I must admit they were delicious!! These are real strawberries in there so that would be my recommendation if you like them. My husband was also pleased with his lime Popsicle. I had learned from talking with her that the ice cream is made differently than the Popsicle so wanting to further taste out their products I ordered 2 scoops of peaches and cream-real peaches to boot. Again, she does serve one vegan ice cream but did not exactly find out which one it was. My husband did the same and when we went to eat them nearly broke our plastic spoons! Nevertheless we were able to work through that and had one of the most enjoyable homemade ice cream we ever tasted. Ice cream for 2 scoops also sells for $2.50. In addition to a refrigerator with drinks she has homemade pineapple drink, another fruit based and the third I couldn't recall. Needless to say shortly after we started eating our ice cream this place was packed! I saw a waitress bring out some tacos to a family and they did look good. I like the authentic Mexican feel to this place but having English definitions on the menu board as well as pricing on all boards would help a great deal since I expect this newly opened small business will be a big draw. For the sake of the food we enjoyed I bumped up this rating because we were so pleased with our treats.
