the ice cream itself was honestly pretty mid. root beer float flavor was not bad but the ice cream wasn't creamy and smooth. it was oddly broken/in chunks and icy if that makes any sense lol BUT THE WAFFLE CONE!!! that was THE BEST waffle cone i've had in my life omg it tasted sooo fresh it was so crunchy and perfectly sweet read more

Millie's is superior ice cream. The quality and taste is as good as any creamery I've ever had. We got to try their Spring flavors: caramel cookie dough was my favorite but the vanilla coconut was surprisingly good (I don't like coconut, and this was non-dairy). Service was excellent and we found every reason to come back again, very soon. read more

Sometimes I find Millie's to be a it salty for my taste (it's flavor dependent). Today, I tried four flavors and only one had that salty taste. I enjoyed the root beer float flavor, and the lemon drop. And the chocolate was quite rich, the way I like it! read more

I have been to this Millie's location several times now at various times of the day. It has always been quick to get through the line. My daughter loves to try different samples! The shop is very clean and the staff are friendly. They also have pints available to bring home. Some of our favorites are the coffee flavor and chads vanilla. I think Millie's is pricey but isn't everything anymore? There is not a parking lot- street parking only. We will be back. read more

Favorite location to grab Millie's. They always have a nice selection and not a huge crowd. They're how we finish dinner at BB. Grab a couple pints to take home. Mint CC and Vanilla are amazing. My least favorite is probably the buckeye. It lacks. Service is excellent. All around great! read more

Parking was tricky but this location has more dairy free options than the others. We ordered my kid got vanilla with sprinkles and I ordered two of the seasonal dairy-free options (banana cream pie and something else) - I was not a fan of the dairy free ones because they are coconut milk based and I don't like coconut milk but I powered through because being able to have something outside of sorbet is such a rare treat! The servers were fast and kind. Prices are reasonable. We eat in the space they have and it was fine. There were a few kids in there hanging out and giving the employees a hard time but I was not bothered by them. They do have a bathroom. read more

Guess we're super spiked spending our summers in the cape because the ice cream was just so so. A bit creamy and Ben and Jerry's like. Never seen covered buns so you cant see the ice cream but they do give samples if you want to dissolve the mystery. Still, it's a nice atmosphere and good energy so in the end I'd come back. read more

Staff was SO kind! more than happy to let me try multiple flavors and ask all sorts of questions about how the ice creams are made. They went as far as to check the recipe book just cause I had questions as a professional baker myself about how they got a specific flavor! This was my go to dessert spot throughout my grad school days when craving a sugar high, it was only fair i came back to it on my trip back to town. The inside is somewhat oldschool with white rectangular tiles alongwith red exposed bricks. They had fun merchandise on sale too, but hey I aint looking else where when im in the mood for some ice cream. We wanted to to be sure we got the best flavors, so we asked for tasters and the server obliged. He helped us decide what we should get and we finally decided on lavendar and chocolate. The. We were confused if we should get a waffle cone or a cup, so he just gave us a crushed waffle cone in a cup. Shoutout to him for making it perfect for us. I love ice creams, so while we were in Pittsburg, I had to try Millie's ice creams. I love how cute it looks both outside and inside the store. The guy behind the counter was very sweet and helpful in picking out our flavours of choice. We ended up getting brownie batter and Lavender Lemon Ripple in a cup, with crushed waffle bits on top. The brownie batter was rich and creamy, and exactly what you'd want from a flavour like that. While the lavender lemon ripple tasted fresh and fruity in comparison. We liked to pair the two and eat them together. But the store also offers other amazing flavours, and I would definitely recommend. read more

I'm lactose intolerant and risked it all for Millie's- it was worth it. If you're lack toast and toddler aunts- you should totally risk it too. I actually got ice cream from their super cute ice cream truck- so I can't rate this exact establishment- but the ice cream tastes the same I'm sure, and I can't rate a food truck so this is what everyone gets! I tried their pumpkin pie flavor with the crushed waffle cone topping. It was very tasty. A. MUST. STOP. in Pittsburgh. I have only been to this particular location because of its proximity to Squirrel Hill, but they do have a few locations spread out in Pittsburgh. I had Millie's even when it was snowing. I stop by Millie's every time I visited Pittsburgh. Lactose intolerance never stopped me. I have my Lactaid pill ready to go, but Millie's has Lactaid pills ready for you near the register incase you forget. My favorite flavors are cookie dough and pistachio. I visited the location in Shadyside on November 22nd around 7:30PM. The customer service was out of this world. I wish I had gotten the names of both employees who were ever so patient with myself and my friend while we were there! We could not make up our minds, tried a few different samples, and took or time contemplating on an ice cream flavor. The patience of both employees a day before the holiday with two annoying & indecisive customers is the reason I'm giving this location five stars. I am a frequent customer at Millies. I enjoy their ice cream and seasonal flavors. I am a huge fan of their waffle cones. The aroma of spices from freshly made cones fills the establishment. They have plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. The Shadyside location always has a sign that advertises the seasonal flavors. read more

I got chocolate chip cookie dough & brownie batter ice cream with marshmallows, cone pieces, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. I always love cookie dough ice cream but the brownie batter ice cream was wayyy too rich and tasted more like dark chocolate. It was okay but not my favorite, I ended up having to ask my siblings to eat some of it. We sat on the back patio which was cute at night with all of the lights! read more

Love Millie's! Arguably a contender for the best dairy-free/vegan ice cream. The mint chocolate chip and brownie batter were both dairy free and were absolutely delicious. It tasted no different from typical ice creams and had that same creamy texture. My friend doesn't eat dairy free but also got the mint ice cream and loved it. The brownie batter is very rich and went really well with the mint. The ice cream in the back isn't dairy free, so I haven't tried it, but my boyfriend loved it. I also like that Millie's rotates their flavors so there's something new to try every now and then. I've loved their rocky road dairy free ice cream too. read more

Great ice cream spot! I know this is a chain in Pittsburgh, and we have a friend who lives in Shadyside so of course we had to stop in. It's a small store but there are some tables inside and picnic tables outside to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Service was friendly and let us sample a couple of flavors before we made our decision. I went with the non-dairy chocolate and mint chocolate chip and they were LEGIT. So creamy and delicious...my husband got the mint as well and had no idea it was non-dairy! Forgot totally to write a review on Millies. I was there in the summer with my family. I had cone with coffee ice cream. The service was fantastic and the staff super friendly. Millie's is one of my two favorite ice cream parlors. You can not go wrong with Millie's as it is by far better than most of the ice cream valors out there. I will defiantly be going again and again. If you like ice cream do not miss out on going to the best place in Pittsburgh. Millie's is defiantly worth the trip. read more

Any day is good for ice cream but in particular a hot sunny day. This ice cream shop is located in shady side area with some decent street parking options. Multiple places to sit inside or at front or back of building to enjoy your ice cream. I had mint chocolate chip with a waffle cone. Great flavor but the waffle cone was one of the best I've had!! I was originally planning to use my Elite perk at the downtown location, but I happened to be in Shadyside last night and have never been to the Shadyside location, so I figured, why not? So, to start, looking for parking in that area is fun (insert sarcasm here lol) but after I finally found a spot a few blocks away, I walked down to Millie's. It's a cute location and nestled in between two other business, but there is a big flag and signage so it's hard to miss. Note: there are steps to get inside this location, so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues. Once inside, i noticed the store was decked in Millie's traditional pink and white! There are added holiday decorations, which made the shop even cozier and cuter! For a cold Thursday night, the place was pretty busy, but not overly packed like I've seen sometimes in the summertime! I read other Yelpers reviews and saw that you can split two flavors for a single scoop. I confirmed with the lady working that I could do that, so I decided to try London Fog and Boozy Eggnog. I got mine in a cup and took it home with me. I've been to Millie's numerous times, but these two flavors were new to me. However, Millie's knocked it out of the park again. Their ice cream is just so creamy and smooth...definitely leaves you wanting more in a good way! I am forever a fan of Millie's! I also want to thank Yelp for the amazing Elite offer! read more

Food notes: Diary free brownie - Very indulgent and rich! S'mores - I love how it was not very sweet. This is one of the popular ones. For years, they've provided nothing but incredible flavors and textures with fun and inventive ingredients. One visit isn't enough to try all the delicious flavours! I've tried chad's vanilla, chocolate, mango and pistachio! It's tough to pick a favourite. They also do great shakes. I m planning to try the vanilla shake next. The location is perfect for a post dinner dessert or while you wait for Noodlehead next door! Stumbled upon Millie's while visiting Pittsburgh for an East Coast college tour, and we were in search of the best Ice Cream in Pittsburgh. We found Millie's based upon the Yelp reviews and we are thrilled we did! All around great experience - somewhere between a 4 to 5 star indulgence! Millie's is a cute little shop on a great street not far from Carnegie Mellon and Pitt and they serve up delicious ice cream in a fun, friendly, warm atmosphere ambiance. The staff were super friendly, and the whole setup is casual and charming, with some tables indoors and some outdoors. Our favorite flavors that we really enjoyed were: Dulce de leche, Coffee and Cookies and Cream. Overall a great stop for a cold sweet treat! read more

Grateful to Millie's for the free scoop of ice cream! It's so fun that they have so many different flavors. I opted for the peppermint brownie and maple bourbon pecan. I liked both flavors but found the brownie to be a little too sweet for my liking. It was perfect for my wife though. Only complaint is that the waffle irons where they were making the cones were too hot and the smoke and burning smell permeated everything--including the ice cream and our clothing. We tried the blueberry and mango sorbet from this shop after hearing it was the best ice cream shop in Pittsburgh but unfortunately I was not impressed :( The texture was slushy, sugary, and not creamy :( However, the colors were fun and the waffle cone was good! 2 stars because the staff were very helpful, eager and nice. But the ice cream might be a little hyped. The waffle cones are handmade and smell amazing when you walk in- for me the smell was almost a little overwhelming. I came in with my Fiancé because we had just finished eating Thai food next door and wanted something sweet. I tried the mango, couldn't even finish my spoonful. I was expecting it to be more fruity and it tasted much more creamy and the mango was an after-thought. Tried the Viet Coffee flavor and wondered where the flavor was. My Fiancé really liked their peanut butter flavor so he ended up getting that but I left without getting anything. They have maybe 10-12 flavors available and none of them sounded very appetizing to me after trying the first 2. Honestly have had better ice cream many other places. Okay I had to add another star because I just came in to try there coconut lime sorbet and it blew my mind. Honestly how could this be so good. My first thought after visiting was that I should have come here sooner, and my second thought was already deciding what I want to order next time. I am already planning to order the peanut butter soft serve with warm fudge and a warm cookie after being inspired by their chocolate chip cookie sundae advertisement and will need to ask about what the strawberry shortcake situation is all about as well. For years, I watched the long lines outside and wondered what all the hype was about. Sometimes you don't get it until you "get it" - and now I get it. Fortunately for us, there was barely any line when we arrived even though it was a hot summer day. Even better, it's only about a one-hour walk from my house. The service was also fast and friendly and the employee who helped us was pleasant the whole time which added to the overall experience. I was especially impressed by the peanut butter soft serve. The flavor was rich and pronounced without compromising the smooth, creamy texture of the soft serve. It was everything I would want peanut butter soft serve ice cream to be. I was also surprised by how many soft-serve flavors they offer. Most places have only a few options, but there was plenty to choose from here. That said, it's hard for me to order anything other than the peanut butter soft serve now that I know how much I love it. One thing to know is that they do not offer free samples because the flavors are made to order. Something else to know is that the small sized cone held noticeably more ice cream than the small cup despite being the same price - so if you can I suggest the cone over the cup if you want more ice cream for the same price. I originally chose the cup because my hands weren't clean, but I later realized the cones come with a plastic protector around them anyway. All in all, this is one of those places that lives up to its reputation, and I highly recommend coming here if you are an ice cream aficionado.
