Al's has gotten way too expensive in my opinion. But, my main problem with this place is that the dining area smells like the restrooms. Sewage. I think if they'd fix the smell I could tolerate the high prices on occasion. read more

don't bother, it is TERRIBLE....went for lunch 3July09. you stand in a line, cafeteria-style and order your selection from the menuboards overheard or from the printed menu. brisket was dry and tough, ribs were average, thin BBQ sauce lacked depth/flavor. sides were the usual; however, the boiled vegetables (carrots, green beans, corn) looked particularly awful as the steam table displayed them in all their overcooked, watery gore. another negative: $$$, for the quality/quantity of food received. even a complimentary frozen dessert (glistening, ice cream-like) elicited a so-so response from our party: "well, it was cold..." aside from Mexican cuisine joints, BS, Texas is a dining backwater. so if you want real 'cue, go on down the interstate another 40 minutes or so to Midland and look for Sam's BBQ on Scharbauer Rd. not KD's Pit Barbeque or Johnny's, look for Sam's - well off the interstate, but lots more flavor and authenticity. read more

Friendly people, good food, and a nostalgic feel to the place. Had a large bbq platter with chicken, chopped beef and jalipeno cheddar sausage. The Sausage was the highlight of the platter. The sides were so, so, not bad by any means just not something that stood out. If you are in the area definately swing by and give the place a try! read more

Can't stop through big spring without getting a chopped beef sandwich from Al's. To this day it is the best bbq I have (and literally ever will) devour. -BONUS- if you eat inside they'll give you the best home-made vanilla ice cream you'll ever have. read more

Brisket had a good crust. Not much smoke. Jalapeño Sausage was bland. Ribs were tender but tight. Sauce was a bit sweet for our liking. Great sides. Cold corn medley was superb and refreshing. This is a religious stop for me whenever heading through West Texas-right there on the main road you can't miss it.Closed on Sunday and Monday-I've made that mistake a few times.Get you some brisket,pulled pork and here's the secret(get 2 sides of the potato salad).Best potato salad in the world-it even says that on side of cup.Then to top it all off they bring you for free a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream-sooooooo good!!! Cafeteria style serving with good food. Prices were a little higher than I'd like, but you get a fair amount of God in return. Brisket was a little dry and jalapeno cheese sausage was fair. The sides were the star of the show here. Potato salad, ranch beans, green beans, Cole slaw, pasta salad, and a complimentary scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Love, love, love Al's! The food was amazing, as usual, but the packaging of the food was super sloppy. (We ordered to-go.) They plopped the potato salad into a food serving boat, wrapped the sandwich, then put it in the same boat. There was also a spoon buried in the potato salad. Al's has been a staple in Big Spring for at least 40 years. They have an expanded menu beyond just BBQ, including fish baskets, and rib baskets that include home- cut fries and a whole pound of terriffic ribs. The smoked chicken salad with lemon basil dressing is the BOMB! Don't miss the ribs. And be sure to get your home-made ice cream after your meal. read more

Great Place for Texas BBQ and Texas Style Hamburgers Not sure about the other reviews. As a Texan who likes Slow Cooked Barbeque, Al's in Big Spring has some of the best Texas BBQ I have ever had. Note that Barbeque is regional and Texas Barbeque is not the same as the East Coast or up in Illinois. The ribs are great, brisket so tender it falls apart with a great smoke ring and I would drive from Dallas just for the Potato Salad. Prices are comparable throughout Texas as I have seen and servings are large. One of the kids had a burger, which I was told that Al's grinds the meat in house so it is real meat and fresh. The burger was big and my 12 yr. old could not finish it. The french frys were homemade and very good. Very Tasty - Old fashion Texas style Hamburgers - all the veggies that should be on a good burger. This was not your McDonald type of burger as those from north of the Red River might think of a burger. The Ice Cream is FREE and is a Texas homemade style and great. Reminds you of snow ice cream. (Non-Texans would not understand.) Well worth the stop in Big Spring, Texas If you are traveling on I-20 or coming down from the North on Hwy. 87. My Visit was in July 2011 read more

Al's is the best far Bar-B-Q bar none! We eat there at least once a week, everything is fresh and the meat, sausage, chicken etc. is so delicious, Tater salad is the best and the green bean salad my favorite. The ice cream and desert is very good, too! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The people on here saying it is average don't know good Bar-B-Q when they see it. read more

I am not and have never been in 45 years a fan of Al's Bar B Q but today someone bought me a catfish plate from Al's and I must say it is awesome. Possibly the best Catfish in Big Spring. I will return to Al's for the Catfish for sure! read more
