Alta View has become our go-to for auto care. Services we've had so far are oil change and car registration renewal (emissions testing) and spark plug repair. For the spark plug situation, my husband called and was given a quote over the phone. When we dropped off the car the next day, the person there said the repair would be more, but they ended up honoring the original quote (it wasn't a huge difference in cost, but how often does a place charge you less when they don't have to?). As a woman and a person who doesn't know much about cars, it is invaluable to have mechanics you can trust since so many auto repair shops seem intent on taking advantage of people like me. read more

We were traveling through on a road trip when we had a rattling noise from the front end.  Looking up shops, I picked Alta Vista because of the location to my hotel.  They made an extra effort to fit the van into their existing schedule and did a safety check.   While I somewhat expected to be taken advantage of because I wasn't local, they didn't even charge me and they gave me good advice what to do next. "he stared down the street in incredulity" That about sums it up with my most recent encounter at this business. The first time was for a propane tank refill. I was treated like a piece of garbage at the filling station and nearly as bad inside at the register. Left a review about the experience here on Yelp! and I'll be damned if the owner, Tom Lund, didn't reach out and try to make it right. That went a long was and I edited my review. My car is up for registration and I needed an inspection and emissions. My brakes have about had it so I figured I'd kill three birds with one stone. Dropped the car off early this morning, left the keys in drop box. Didn't get back to them to approve the cost of the brakes but arranged to have them repaired tomorrow. Retrieved my car and paid for the inspection and emissions. Never knew what it was going to cost. Never asked. Didn't see the sign prominently displayed in the lobby as I dropped the car off before they were opened. But my jaw absolutely dropped at the $64.22 I was being asked to pay. Emissions and inspection is $19.95 down the street. The Jiffy Lubes practically give that service away and every Money Mailer or Hometown Values is full of coupons. I mentioned that Auto Savers (650 E Sego Lily Dr, Sandy, UT 84070 (801) 553-8808) was advertising $19.95. He told me that I should tell them what Alta charges." I asked, "Why?" He responded, "So that they can raise their prices." I asked, "What do the grease monkey places charge?" He responded, "How should I know, I work here, not there." The "He" was Eddie who happens to be the service manager and according to Tom has been there 19 years. Tom the owner was sitting on the other side of the counter. Tom attempted to explain why I wouldn't want to pay the very least for emissions and inspection to which I responded that requiring emissions and inspection on a four-year-old vehicle was racketeering to begin with. Eddie actually made a valid point - he didn't know and didn't care what others charged for the service. $64.22 was what Alta Canyon Tires and service charged. More than what I had to pay, I guess it was the snarky, pugnacious and impudent manner in which Eddie, Tom's service manager of 19 years, responded to my queries, right there in front of his boss and business owner. I wasn't being the least bit combative. Maybe a little whiny but we all knew that I was about to drop $350 tomorrow morning for new brakes. I know a thing or two about customer service. I how to respect a customer, even if that customer is a total jerk. I'm incredulous that Eddie would interact with me the way he did today but not nearly as much as I am that the business owner would sit there and stand idly by. Told myself I wouldn't be back after my silly propane tank fiasco. Decided to give them another try because of a seemingly sincere email from the business owner. Not going to happen again. Tom, don't make any effort to contact me. You've got four Yelp! reviews. Two 5-star and two 1-star. I guess your future customers should toss a coin when deciding whether to patronize you or not. read more

I can't afford $150 cost I wasnt informed of ahead of time for a suggestion of repair along with the cost of the oil change I needed. It doesn't make any sense. I asked for oil change and if they'd mind taking a look for anything wrong since I had some recent performance issues and sorely overdue for the oil change. Next time, say you're going to charge a fortune to take a look when the customer asks. You think people are just made of money if they drive a car over 20 years old? I don't think so read more

Eddie, a true professional, gave me a quick, concise evaluation and incredibly reasonable set of estimates on recommended fixes and concerns for my car. I have been proceeding with the repairs and maintenance, and have been elated with their efficiency and price. It can be so dicey when you search for a new shop, and makes one relieved and comforted when you discover a group you can wholeheartedly trust and depend on to do an excellent job. My husband was rotating his tires the evening before a big road trip when 2 studs failed - didn't break but were spinning. I called the first service station that came up (had no previous relationship with them) and told them our problem and our urgency. Joe said to bring it in but he wasn't sure if they'd be able to get to it before morning until they had a chance to look at it. I backed our car over some brush and possibly a tree stump at a campsite. After that, the car was making a scary noise. I took it in to Alta View Tires and Service expecting an expensive repair. It turns out one of the calipers came off of a brake. The entire diagnosis and repair took a half an hour and only cost $30. The man I dealt with at the counter was friendly and polite.
