This past time, when the Vet (April Woods) was sharing updates for our dog's annual check up, she stated in a serious manner to my significant other: "Are you ok? Do you think it's funny what I said? This is literally discrimination based on his appearance. We are disgusted and disappointed at the ableist treatment he received, having been longterm customers here for our dog. If you get Dr. April Woods, run the other way. I brought in a rescue for a check up and had detailed questions. I figured I would try this place because I had a voucher. He was having diarrhea, had a torn paw pad, a chipped canine, but not much else. So April Woods comes in looking like she just stepped in poop. Informs me he needs this battery of tests. I mention that I've been giving chicken and rice for diarrhea (although now I know that turkey and pumpkin is way better) and she casts me a look of disgust like I'd just skinned her pet cat. "WHYYY would you do that?" she said. Couldn't even bother explaining why this was not a good choice. Also said definitively, "yup and that canine needs to be pulled." I ended up taking him to our regular vet after for a cleaning and was informed that perhaps it could be fixed with a root canal. Interesting analysis, April, thanks for the shortcuts. Did you even look if the pulp was exposed? My guess is, no. The whole time she was giving her assessment she looked like she would rather be elsewhere. Of course, she recommended a Hill's diet of dry extruded kibble--I don't expect most vets to be integrative, but wow, way to reduce your workload here. She told me that when they tried to examine his paw (and they ended up asking me at least 3 times which foot it was--vet tech couldn't keep it straight), they said they had to muzzle him because he yelped when they PULLED his paw. Aren't you supposed to be gentle? And especially if you know it's a rescue? When I got the bill it was something like 600 dollars for a sh*t exam and tons and tons and TONS of medications and antibiotics (I never brought a stool sample so there was nothing conclusive about parasites). I ended up buying a $25 bottle of gentamycin to help clean and soothe the torn paw pad and left QUICKLY. What kind of place is this? This place needs a makeover, but please PLEASE PASS SO HARD ON THIS PLACE. The front desk has very nice individuals, this is the only saving grace. read more

We recently switched to Altadena pet hospital for our two dogs and two cats and we really love it. We used to go to a vet in echo park that while they had so many five star reviews, it felt like everytime we went we were seeing new doctors and having to re-explain our pets medical history. It also always felt like they cared more about the money than the well being of our pets. Dr. Sahi is very knowledgeable and friendly. Our cat has some chronic health issues and he has been very attentive with him - researching alternative treatment routes and finding the right path for him. He also will only recommend something if it's truly worth doing for your pet, rather than trying to upsell you unnecessary or risky treatment. They are a small town vet, so the waiting room is small, parking lot is small, and sometimes there is a longer wait to see the doctor - but I've always experienced great customer service and a super friendly staff. Anytime I call I am on hold for no more than a few minutes if at all - which is very rare for vets in this area. One of our dogs is also very nervous and dog reactive. They said he can wait in the car until his appointment time and then use the side entrance to avoid seeing other pups which we love. I talked to a few folks in the waiting room and one couple had been coming there for 13 years, and the other couple 10 years. That was a huge selling point for us! read more

After waiting 2 weeks to get an appointment for shots and potential fixing for my 2 dogs, I showed up early to the appointment, then proceeded to wait for over an hour, with no one ever giving me any status update. When I finally asked the receptionist how long I should be expected to wait, she said 1-2 hours, because they are "short staffed." Then why book so many people that they have to wait for 1-2 hours? Then, any potential fixing surgery was at least 2 months away. That's the wait time at Pasadena Humane Society where they will do the surgery for much less money. You guys had total disregard for my time. I then got back on Yelp to find another Veterinarian, found and called the Pasadena Pets Hospital, who could see my 2 dogs the same day. I just saw the actual doctor, a real vet, not a tech which is all they had at the Altadena spot. I hate to leave this bad review but the practice of having no regard for my time is unacceptable. Then, another doctor advised me to get a biopsy for my dog, but they still didn't change the prescription based on the results. He is back on the original medication I had him on before coming here after thousands of dollars and countless shots & meds. An absolutely unfortunate place. His staff have been caring and always treat my pets with love and dignity. Altadena Pet Hospital is a cornerstone of our foothill community. I discovered them when my daughter's Girl Scout troop wanted to learn about animal care. Although Dr. Sahi and his staff were busy, he scheduled time to give the troop a very detailed and thorough tour of his pet hospital. He and his staff took time to answer the girls' questions, and carefully explained how all the various medical devices worked to care for and save animal lives. It left a lasting impression on those first graders who will be entering high school this fall. Dr. Sahi and his staff have sacrificed a lot during the last year. Covid restrictions have made it tough for small businesses. But Altadena Pet Hospital never cuts corners. They put safety first and follow all protocols above and beyond what I've seen others do. I have been coming to Dr. Sahi for more than 15 years with 3 former dogs and now with two 11 year-old dogs and had always had a good experience as he is very knowledgeable. I have also called him on a Sunday once and he was able to help me with directions on what to do with my dog. The reason I'm writing this review and giving a 3 star is concerning another veterinarian, a female doctor that attended my dogs on Monday 4/1. I had asked her to check one of my dog's paw because the dog was having some pain when we tried to touch it and she said she checked my dog and came back to me telling me that the dog is a senior dog and has arthritis and that we should put her on medication for pain (a shot each month). I refused the medication as there were no test performed to back up her claim and I know these kind of medication always have side effects, which she said there were none for this medication. I didn't believe her. I also asked them to provide my dogs with their past due vaccines and they refused to do it because my dogs had "symptoms" which was the pain in the paw that had made her to stay in her bed all day on Friday without eating but by Saturday she was eating normally. I check my dog's paw today after seeing her licking her paw again and I see a cut/abrasion on her paw between the pads. What the doctor said it's arthritis, it was actually a cut! I don't think she actually checked her! It is very disappointing since I paid $75 dollars just for the examination for each pet expecting a throughly physical check! I will go back to this vet clinic, but from now on I will be sure to request Dr. Sahi, at the end of the day I go to this hospital because of his great service but I don't trust his vet helpers now. read more

If you really love your pet, do not go here. I took my senior cat here a year ago, they ran bloodwork and tests, and I was told that she had kidney disease. I was told to put her on a prescription kidney food diet, so I did. She lost her appetite, stopped eating and lost a ton of weight. When I brought her back in last month for a check up I was told that they needed to screen for cancer because of her weight loss. About $800 later I decided to see another vet for a second opinion. My new vet looked at her kidney levels, said they were super mild and advised me to put her back on regular food. Only then did I learn that only 50% of cats will even eat prescription kidney food, exactly what the content of that food is and why cats don't like it. I was also told that screening her for cancer was a huge leap. I put her back on high quality wet food and the difference has been instantaneous. Whilst the care Altadena Pet Hospital provided was sufficient, it was lacking so much information and compassion that I cannot recommend this place. Also, the receptionists were either dismissive or downright rude. I had to call three separate times to beg them to send an authorization for a prescription cat food that they prescribed! I don't normally write negative reviews, but when it comes to the care and health of your pet -- especially a senior one -- everyone deserves compassion and transparency. This vet gave neither - I spent half of my appointments crying in my car. Please do not take your pet here. read more

I've been a client of Altadena pet hospital for a number of years with four of my pets. The last time I went with Piri the service was very poor very late and after three hours I was told they couldn't do the procedure (draining fluids out of my dogs abdomen) and send me away with some recommendations. I called all of these recommendations and nobody would take my dog as standard procedure is to transfer the patient directly to another facility. I called them and I was told they do not do that. Dr Sahi has always been extremely caring and good but the stuff that is working there have much to learn. It seems he's running the hospital much too thin and could definitely use some professional help. I will never go back to them with any of my pets or future pets Very disappointed read more

This animal hospital has been around for quite some time, though growing up I never had a pet to bring in lol when I got my first dog, a friend did me a favor and was taking him to get his shots. The place he took him to ended up being in the Eagle Rock/Highland Park area. I didn't know much about veterinarians, so I kept taking my dog there for the next few years. What started off as a place I liked, suddenly changed. The long waits, overcrowding, and super short visits once you actually got in to see the vet we're starting to anger me because I never felt like my pet was getting the attention he deserved. I knew at the prices were very cheap compared to any other vets in the area hence the overcrowding, but was it really worth my pets health? That's when I decided to visit Altadena Pet Hospital on a hunch. It's five minutes from my house, the prices are completely fair, and I don't feel like I am sacrificing my pets health to save a few dollars. The doctor here is totally honest! I took in a chihuahua mix puppy with a broken leg once & he did an x-ray then proceeded to tell us that it was a fractured femur. I asked him if I was going to have to get a cast next, he said no because it was super expensive and he could completely heal with just a splint. With this recommendation he literally saved me hundreds of dollars because once they open the materials for the cast even if you don't use the entire roll for the cast making, it's the same base price no matter what and it's pretty pricey! He was right nonetheless, this man knows what he is doing! The puppy healed in no time and is a healthy adult now. I now take my dog Killer, I fostered a husky puppy not long ago and took him in for his first set of shots, now I have a second dog, Benji and he goes there too. The wait time here is very short, the staff is super attentive and so gentle and sweet with all the pets that are taken here, and the doctor is again, amazing! I can't believe I didn't come here sooner! I absolutely love this place and trust my pets and their care 100%. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE FOR EAR CROPPING. If I could rate 0 stars I would. My poor puppy Doberman got her ears cropped here and it was a nightmare. She was in terrible pain and was extremely uncomfortable and the doctor proceeded to tell me she was fine. They gave her the wrong type of cone for these procedures and cut her ears short and uneven when I wanted them long. I had to take her to dr.butchko in riverside and he is amazing. He rewrapped her ears and sent her home with some medicine on top of what Altadena gave her because it wasn't enough. I called several times in a row to talk to the doctor and let them know that her ears were bleeding too much and her cone had come off and they refused to help me until a later date. The staff is very unprofessional and rude and hung up in my face. I would definitely like a refund. At Dr.butchko's office they charge 400$ for ear cropping and they look stunning! Here at Altadena they charged me 900$ plus 57$ for a consultation visit. And they didn't crop the ears or care for my dog as they should. DO NOT come here. Save your money. I have been bringing my dogs to Dr. Sahi since about 1993 and I have had nothing but positive experiences. I have accepted the fact the dog ownership can be expensive, specially when they get sick and have to go to the vet for medical treatment. I have seen some reviews here accusing Dr. Sahi of trying to rip them off and nothing could be further from the truth. He is very honest and a kind person. Last year I noticed a small bump on my dog's back that I assumed was a bug bite. I took my dog to Dr. Sahi and he described what it was. He told me that the majority of the time that they drained away by themselves and suggested that we just monitor it for a month. Within two week that bump grew to the size of a twenty five cent coin. I took my dog in and had Dr. Sahi remove it. I then recalled that one of my other dogs that I had in the past had a similar thing on several occasion and Dr. Sahi made the same recommendations. those bumps on that dog did drain away. If Dr. Sahi was greedy or dishonest as some people would have suggested then he would have recommended surgery right away. This week my dog bit his own tongue and caused a laceration on the top and bottom of it which was bleeding badly. I called Dr. Sahi who was all booked up with procedures. He told me to drop off my dog and that he would take care of it between his scheduled procedures. I did so and Dr. Sahi took good care of my precious dog. Bottom line, I want the best care for my dog and that is exactly what I get from Dr. Sahi and his staff. I am not going to go shopping around to save a few bucks when I know that I always get quality care for my pet at Altadena Animal Hospital and Dr. Sahi. read more

First of all I made an appointment for the 23, and even got an email confirming that day. Then without my knowledge they changed it to the 21 and wanted me to believe that it had been the 21st all along. Mind you I wrote it down on my calendar AND most important I received a confirmation email. Next the receptionist kept talking over me, and was extremely condescending!
