Extremely unwelcoming & unprofessional lacks good leadership. We are part of the Pasadena community and were hoping to establish care for our dog at this clinic. Unfortunately, our experience left a very poor & unprofessional first impression. AFTER ALL WE ARE PAYING FOR A SERVICE!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon arrival, we encountered a sign at the front desk that was extremely condescending and immediately gave the impression of a business more interested in enforcing rules than treating patients with respect.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is a 10-minute grace period that is not clearly communicated beforehand, and if you are even slightly late, the clinic threatens to cancel your appointment and charge a late fee.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were only about five minutes late due to a long line and parking delays, yet we were told our appointment was canceled and a late fee would be applied. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff at the front desk were dismissive and RUDE AF!!!! , particularly one woman who seemed to enjoy asserting power over patients.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She even hung up abruptly on a caller saying, "I'll call you back, I'm busy." [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we requested to speak to the manager, the response was only slightly better, still condescending, and we were reprimanded for explaining the situation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It felt very much like being treated as children rather than valued clients. For a clinic that presumably cares for animals, this lack of empathy, patience, and basic courtesy was courtesy was shocking. If you're treating your HIGH PAYING CLIENTS THIS BAD!? HOW ARE YOU TREATING OUR BELOVED ANIMALS? YIKES. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The behavior at the front desk, combined with the aggressive sign, makes it very difficult to feel comfortable or welcome.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We hope the owners and doctor are made aware of this, as staff attitude can seriously affect a clinic's reputation and patient loyalty. We are reconsidering whether to continue using this clinic and strongly encourage owners particularly more than poor management to retrain front desk staff on professionalism and compassion. This veterinary hospital used to be good. I've been coming here since I adopted my dog back in 2016. Lately I have not been having a good experience and the last interaction really showed me they don't care about patient retention. I made an appointment on 2/2/2024 for a yearly physical and vaccination updates. The first available was in ONE MONTH on 3/1/2024. Which I accepted as it was non urgent even though it will take so long to make an appointment of this type. 2 days before the appointment I get an email to confirm the visit and I clicked Yes, I am still coming. On the day of the said appointment, the technician said that there was nothing in the system and that it was strange. She went inside the rooms and came back out about 10 minutes later saying nothing was in the system. I showed her the confirmation emails (see attached) and they asked me to forward these emails to the office so they can look into it. After 37 minutes of back and forth, the clinic agreed to receive my dog the next morning for a DROP OFF at 8am and then they will call me to pick him up. I said, 8am? I thought it was very early but still agreed as I've been waiting a month for this. They said yes, 8am. Frustrated that I requested the original day off work for nothing, I returned the next day, Saturday for drop off. The next day 3/2/24, I came to drop off my dog at exactly 8am for his physical and nobody opened the door. I called (no answer, just voicemail) and emailed them and even saw technicians go inside through the side door, but nobody came to talk to me. I left after 15 minutes of no response. It was in the afternoon that they finally returned my call to tell me they take drop offs at 8:30am instead but the technician had said 8am. This is when I realized that leadership has weakened and that the clinic was no longer the same. The lack of technician training and incorrect information provided to the client or patient is worrisome. I asked this technician who called me after 5 hours that I wanted all of my dog's profile/medical history emailed to me and she said okay. This was on 3/2/24. I didn't get the emails with his medical history until 3/15/24. Two weeks later. I also never got a response from the clinic for forwarding the confirmation emails for the appointments as they requested because they were gonna "look into why the appointment wasn't in their system". They didn't care after the fact and that spoke volumes to me. I also noticed that there was a couple with an older dark gray dog who was walking around sluggishly because the dog approached my dog for a sniff. I heard the technician telling the couple that nobody can see the dog and that they can come back when he is more sluggish and the couple said MORE THAN THAT? And they were rejected even though it sounded like they were recently there and had immediate concerns. It broke my heart to hear that and was confirmation that this clinic was no longer the right fit for my dog and me. I hope they're ok. Today is officially 30 days since the said appointment and I never got word from the clinic leadership. Ps. My experience with the doctors were good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This review is about the receptionists (Vicki) and manager (Rosie).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All this happened, over 4 days. I called early in the week to get my dogs prescriptions emailed to me so I could get them filled at Costco. My dog needs to be on meds the rest of his life so I wanted a more affordable price. They said Costco doesn't fill the prescription unless I give them a signed copy. I called Costco and asked if a prescription printed from an email could be filled. Costco said they could take it and they would call the vet as a courtesy to verify it. So, great, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called the vet and they said they would send it by the end of the day. I got nothing. The next day was the same. I called again and asked to be emailed the prescription. They said, by the end of the day and I got nothing. The day after was the same. I called and they said end of the day and I got nothing[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Today I called again and complained that I was being blown off. They said they would mark it urgent and send it. I got the prescription in my email soon after and went to print it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But my printer wasn't working! She said let me see and put me on hold. They tell me the pharmacist tech isn't there and they would be the one to call Costco so they can't do it. (They didn't tell me any of this in the previous phone call) I need to come in. So I say ok. Before I leave to pick them up, I check the prescriptions that are in my email to make sure they're correct. On the bottle I have it says 10 mg. And on the script it says 5 mg. So I call back. This time after putting me on hold,Rosie who identifies herself to me as the manager, answers. It turns out they don't carry 10 mg pills at the vet so instead of one 10mg pill, the script calls for 2, 5 mg pills. I say I'm sorry, I didn't read that part. [[HIGHLIGHT]]But since she's the manager I tell her about what was going on, that I've been blown off and now, lied to.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She says they've been understaffed and the doctor that my dog saw wasn't in yesterday so they had another vet who was busy, take the time to write my dogs script. She said the vet was there past closing hours and stayed till 7pm working. I had called yesterday at 6:15 before closing time to remind them about sending my scripts after not getting them and the voice message said they were closed. Rosie also said there was an emergency going on at the moment and because of the emergency, they'd be turning their phones off. It feels like excuses and lies. I'm a reasonable person. If they told me, we don't call in prescriptions, then I'd say, ok I'll come pick it up. Instead they lied and said the Costco manager told them Costco doesn't do that. If they said, "look, we're really understaffed and couldn't get to you today, we're so sorry" I'd be like, ok maybe I need to go and pick them up. Just say, I'm sorry, and tell me the truth and not all these excuses and lies. Most people are reasonable and understanding! Don't give me the run around and make me feel like I'm being unreasonable and in the wrong and then lie to me about it! Also, they told me their phone calls are recorded. Now, I don't understand why anyone would want to go to this absolutely dog water experience of a vet. It's more akin to going to a shady mechanic. Will they overcharge? Yep. TLDR: This hospital gave us incorrect information about spaying, and withheld the estimate for the operation ($1000-1700 for a 6 month kitten with no health issues) until one week before the operation, probably so I would say 'just get it over with.' Now they have my $100 deposit and I must wait several more weeks for a low cost spay appointment. My cat has been spraying around the apartment nonstop. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone here seems quite friendly, however, our vet's 'professional' advice has cost us considerable time and stress.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We brought in a four month old kitten for a checkup and also asked that we schedule a spay appointment. We were told that our cat was too young to spay (our later research has indicated that this is false). We then decided to wait, but before our kitten had turned 5 months old, her heat cycle began. When we attempted to schedule a spay appointment, we were told that they could not spay her while she's in heat (this is not strictly true, as several spay centers indicate an additional fee if the cat is in heat due to the increased risk of bleeding). Consequently, they had us reschedule for a month later. We paid an initial deposit of $100 and waited for the spay estimate. Three weeks afterward, the spay estimate came out to be between $1000-1700. This is drastically higher than other centers, which charge between $100-500. I now understand that low-cost centers are cheaper because they primarily do spays and neuters, but I would expect an honest hospital to tell me this upfront, as it seems to be very common information (we are very new cat owners). I also don't understand why this estimate could not be sent until 3 weeks after the spay appointment was booked, and after my initial deposit of $100 (which would've covered about 60% of the total cost of a spay elsewhere). When they took my deposit, they said they couldn't tell me what the estimate would be yet, so I assumed the $100 would end up being 30-50% of the total operation cost, not 5-10%. There was no new information gathered during the three weeks we waited, so I can only assume that this vet delays the estimate so that when the spay appointment comes the following week, the customer will feel like they want to 'just get it over with'. I do not want to spent nearly $2000 for what can be done for about $500 maximum at dozens of other centers, and I do not appreciate not being told about this very common option. I do not appreciate the timing with which the estimate was sent. Spay centers, as I now realize, are extremely busy and must be booked weeks in advance. I have now lived with a cat that is constantly spraying during her heat cycle, for nearly two months, and will likely wait several weeks longer for a spay appointment elsewhere, because this vet was not upfront with the cost, and as I stated earlier in my review, it simply does not seem true according to internet sources that cats cannot be spayed under 6 months. I would've been fine coming back to this vet even if I decided to do the spay elsewhere, but I am certainly switching vets after I use the $100 deposit they have taken from me. Both my senior cats see Dr. Christina Fan at Pasadena Pet Veterinary Hospital for their medical care. Veterinarian care is expensive, even with pet insurance. The level of care and professionalism that Dr. Fan provide is absolutely worth it. After losing my Rocky due to the lack of care from VCA on Foothill, we swore to do a better job and find the right vet for our dogs. Well, we found Dr. Stan. Dr. Stan and his staff are amazing. Our Lola had so many health issues and Dr. Stan did everything he could to help her and us. He was very patient with our numerous emails, calls and sometimes I would barge in without an appointment and he was so nice and compassionate. Yesterday we had to say goodbye and I'm crying as I'm writing this but Dr. Stan was so sweet, he asked us all individually if we were on board with this decision and gave us all the time we needed, explained the process and let us be with her as long as we needed and promised to take good care of her even after they took her away. We never felt that he was extending her life to make a buck...we trusted him and when we felt there were no other options, he said it was time. He could have dragged it out and we would have continued to pay but he didn't do that at all. This review is long overdue considering how many years I've been taking my dogs here to see Doctors Stan and Christina. Today, my dog came in for his annual vaccines, bloodwork, and exam. The doctors are very compassionate and thorough. They always address all of my concerns. The doctors personally either call or email me with my lab results when it comes back, which is nice. The staff are also very experienced. I never have any worries leaving my dogs with them, when I need to. The exam rooms, waiting area, and restrooms are always kept very clean. I can tell that they take a lot of pride and put a lot of love into their hospital. They are usually very busy, so if it's not an emergency, you want to schedule your appointments ahead of time, especially for annual vaccines and examinations. If you plan to do a walk-in, it's best to call ahead to see what times their walk-ins are for the day, or the wait may be a while, if they're super busy already. Usually, I use my petdesk app to schedule my appointments now, which is super convenient. They have a decent sized parking lot shared with a few other businesses, but I've never had trouble finding a parking spot. read more

My review is regarding the front desk... my pet has been a patient of Dr.Christina for many years and I think she's absolutely great and very knowledgeable. I recently called the office because I had a question regarding a medication and was immediately put on hold which is fine because I'm sure they get a lot of calls daily. After 15 minutes of holding, someone picked up the phone and I proceeded to ask my question which she then tells me that she'll check and was put on hold again... 35 minutes later, the "I'm sorry we missed your call, please leave a message" automatic message kicks in. Today I took my dog in for his 9am teeth cleaning and upon arrival, they told me they had to cancel because no vet was there today (both had called in sick). Kind, compassionate, empathetic and sympathetic. They gave me all the time I needed to make the heartbreaking decision and then ultimately saying goodbye to her. I held her until she took her last breath and then for a while afterwards. I was never rushed. In hindsight, they made this horrific, heartbreaking day easier because of their love for their patients. Great reviews, would love to try them out, but phone reception is understaffed. When my dog was ill I tried to get through several times over two days. Phone just rings and rings. Recently tried again, phone ring and rings, then an exasperated voice ask me to hold, and then I am on hold for a very long time. I am a very patient person, but it was just too long, ha e one more try today, and decided that I would let them know via yelp. I would have loved to try them, but customer quality care starts at the front office. I hope they fix this. read more

Their website offers a wellness plan that we thought was reasonable and used last year. interaction was good and I'd give it 5 stars. However this year we made a follow up requesting the same thing and were told okay on the phone. After the visit they charged us for each service individually and told us the plan us no longer offered ( even though the offer is clearly still on the website) and, when it returns in the future will cost significantly more. I pointed out what's advertised and the manager basically said there is nothing they can do. I get small businesses needing to raise prices, but this interaction felt dishonest. read more

Quite literally one of the best vet hospitals that I have been to. I've never had a primary vet for my cat because I struggled a lot with finding a proper vet that would provide my cat with proper and attentive care. I brought my cat here last weekend for a general checkup and was pleasantly surprised at how detailed and involved the vet had been. Because it was our first visit, he wanted to know all of my cat's medical history and every single detail about him. This may be normal protocol but in my previous experience, I've never seen a vet show this much care and interest in my cat. They paid or complained enough to Yelp to get my review taken down. Then private messaged me berating me because of my honest review. I ended up waiting on hold for 30 minutes before I gave up. I was told with sarcastic context, "Yelp is a way you can take our your frustrations" and then I noticed my review was taken down. Shady business practices and I'd be extremely worried about their vet ethics since their business ethics seem terrible. read more

UPDATE: After several years of patronizing this business, I left last year. Here's why... A "facade of kindness that was all fake" was recently mentioned in a review, and that's precisely it! Dr. Stan was "nice and caring" when his business had just started out. But as the business grew, he started getting sloppy, snippy and downright rude. During one visit, he said my dog (who has a lot of anxiety like many rescue dogs do) was "annoying" and that I'd "end up STUCK with a dog that's blind and deaf". Is that what you tell someone about their dearly beloved pet?! I was a fool to overlook it then (thinking he was just having a bad day). Service started getting much worse right before covid started. I mentioned this to the staff, and even they said things were bad, but that "Dr. Stan wouldn't listen to them" and I should notify him directly. My last straw was when I found out my dog had glaucoma (from another clinic, of course) when all along Dr. Stan said re: his cloudy eyes, that's what happens when they get old, they get "cloudy eyes". Give me a break! I even emailed Dr. Stan to express my disappointment and despair, and in true non-caring, non-compassionate fashion, he didn't even acknowledge me. What happened to you Dr. Stan? Do you even like animals or do you just care about the money? For those of you who truly love your pets, do not take them here. You can do much better elsewhere. read more

This vet was recommended by my local vet only because they were full and couldn't accept new patients. I've been to Pasadena Pets half a dozen times. The vets always seem caring in person but the follow up leaves me to believe it's a facade of true effort. I've been scheduled with different vets without notice. Only to be told they didn't get a chance to review records to properly advise me. My dog was diagnosed with cancer. My dog is family. How would you feel if you had to wait on pins and needles to find out if your family mbr has cancer? Well i did. I had to wait WAY beyond the timeframe they advised. I understand they get busy. I understand my dog is not the only urgent patient. But I had to call repeatedly and leave msgs until the vet called to confirm. Then, the vet i f/u with didn't know what kind of cancer nor had a chance to review chart before my f/u. Cold & callous. The staff (most appear to be teenagers) always seem lackadaisical about anything and everything. Im NOT one of those annoying privileged types. I just love my family. My dog is not just a pet to me and i would appreciate a vet office to be sensitive to that. Instead, I frequently encounter a desensitized facility running business like a pet store. Bottom line, they're hard to get a hold of, the app they ask you to use sucks, their staff is overworked and I would say the vets are the only good thing, but only if you're lucky to get a good one by pure luck. Money is no object when it comes to caring for my family. I wish this vet office would understand they could get more money out of folks like me if they just got more organized and pretended to care more efficiently. read more

So this is an overall review, not just based on Vet care. The care here is excellent, especially Dr Stan (the owner, I believe). But having been a client for 7 years it has become impossible to get an appointment for anything other than a routine exam 3-4 weeks out. I would think if an issue came up (as with my kitten now) I would be able to make an appointment within a few days, but that is not the case. Therefore, I am forced to go to another Vet. I'm sorry Dr Stan, you were fantastic, but I need to be able to get my pets to see the doctor far sooner than three weeks out. I am going back to Petsadena on Raymond. They're good, but they're parking is bad. I'd rather deal with parking issues than not being able to bring my pet in to see a doctor within a day or two. read more

One of the worst vet experiences for us thus far. So many appointment scheduling mishaps that we lost count. The last incident was unforgivable; our puppy (5 months old and only 9 lbs) was prescribed the wrong dose of antibiotics (doubled what it was supposed to be) it would have been fetal for our puppy. The doc gave useless excuses and even suggested we find another vet even though it's her mistake...so unprofessional. We would never come back here and jeopardize our pets' lives. read more
