Maria was awful. I went in needing a hem on my wedding dress and besides her place being filthy, she has no manners. I put on my wedding dress and when I asked her to zip me up (I was really proud because I ordered my dress 2 sizes smaller and lost weight and it fits perfectly), she told me I "needed to lay off the French fries". I called in when I tried on my bridesmaid dress two days before the wedding (hahaa!) and there was a terrible bone support thing on the one side of the bust, from the top to the bottom. It stuck out from under the fabric and looked so rediculous. She said to bring it right in and I live close so I was there in 10 minutes. She quickly removed the plastic piece for me, had me try it on, adjusted an awkward seam, re-sewed up the bust from the removal, and even cleaned up the little pieces of string getting in the way of the zipper working smoothly! I told her the dress was from David's Bridal and we had a little laugh about how sloppy they were in making the dress and how much I had to pay for it! It was done in about a half hour and my dress is perfect now! She only charged $20, but I didn't know it was cash only, so I had to run to an ATM, which was inconvenient. Like many others I found Maria on Yelp and have nothing but good things to say. I had some beautiful high waisted tweed shorts that were just way too big for me. They were a lot of work as the zipper was on the side and they had double lining so they could not use a simple stitch in the waist. She practically created new shorts for me and did an inseam down the middle. They fit perfectly and you can't even tell they had work done. She did exact measurements. I was dying to bring them to paris with me but had less than a weeks time. But I brought them to her on a Thursday evening and she had them ready for me by Tuesday! Came in with two vintage suits that needed repairs made to them and was fully ready and willing to pay for the repairs needed. As soon as I brought them in and showed them to her, she knew everything there was to know about the material, condition, trend era, etc. of both suits I brought in. After showing the holes to her, she told me she would make the repairs but that they likely would not hold up due to the condition both suits were in. When we asked her to fix them, she charged us to fix her mistake. She didn't take criticism well and didn't care if we were unhappy with her work. Not impressed. I went in to have two pairs of pants hemmed. My wife (who DOES know how to sew but is too busy working to sew these for me) pinned the pants at the correct length. The lady at Ale Maria's basically refused to sew them because she didn't want to chance that the hem would be wrong. I agreed that I would even sign a waiver so she could get started, but no. So, now I have to find another tailor/alteration shop to do my work. Update: I took my pants to Kim's Custom Tailor Etc 7023 N Litchfield Rd Glendale, AZ 85307. I found Maria on the Yelp site and I am so, so happy I did (thanks to all the reviewers!). I've been in AZ two years and had yet to find a seamstress, and Maria is wonderful. I have a floor length black gown for a black tie wedding in Newport, RI next month and being 5 feet tall (on a good day!), nothing ever fits properly in the dress department. I got lucky ordering it online but it needed inches off of the bottom and the top straps fitted. I found Maria on here and called to make an appointment. She told me to come in during business hours and she would take care of me. So I made no official appointment. I had gotten a rough estimate of what alterations would be elsewhere, and the prices were up there. I went in and met Maria, and felt comfortable right away. Very warm and welcoming. She measured quickly, but very precisely. I could tell this woman takes great pride in her work. The prices aren't "cheap", but they were nowhere near what I would've paid elsewhere, and her work is flawless. I got more than what I paid for. My dress fits like a glove-- better than my own wedding dress or any bridesmaid dress I've ever had. I cannot recommend this shop enough and will be back within the week with pants, a suit, etc! PS- I needed my dress a month out and I was worried about that timeframe! I saw she had many things in there to do, and when she asked when I needed it, I told her to take a few weeks no rush. She had it done within days, and it probably would've been sooner had I asked.
