Today I drove an elderly family member to this shop and waited in the car. They went in with their two items. When I saw that they were being waited on I called to say - the item is cleaned, becuase I had cleaned it. I provided the elderly person my credit card and said that if they needed to they could just pay the additional fee. But we did not get that far because the elderly person said to the desk people - "she said it's cleaned" and the response to their old and frail person was, "you lied." So they left shaking and I went in. I was immediatley told that we are barred and can never return. From my career I consistently hear negative comments about the rudeness of the staff. Seeing an elderly person shake at being called a liar was not okay. I am sharing so that the staff either take ownership of their anger or to warn others. read more

Their prices are SO reasonable. My brand new $500 king size comforter tore the first time I put it in the washer and I was so upset. I thought I'd have to get rid of it but took it to Alterations Express before trying to fix it myself/donating it. They repaired it beautifully for $8. I also had a satin dress with multiple snags after it kept getting caught on my beaded purse at a wedding. I had it dry cleaned and showed them the snags - not expecting much to be able to be done. I stopped over here since I had a worship dance skirt that needed hemmed. Having read they do hemming while you wait I thought I could take advantage of this opportunity. The lady led me to a changing room where I tried it on and let her know I was ready to be measuring. She watched my gait and after me going back and forth with it told me that unless I was mandated to a certain length then I could get away without having it hemmed. I was grateful for her honesty and thanked her since the job would have cost me close to $15.00. I will keep this place in mind for future quick alterations when the need arises. Best place for quick alterations. I had several pairs of suit pants with issues one of which I was in an urgent rush to get fixed as I had an event requiring one of my suits and they had all 3 done and ready for pickup the next day. All of the stitching was good and feels strong, the zipper replacement looks flawless, can't even tell it wasn't the one that came on the pants! Friendly employees and very convenient. I got two pairs of jeans tailored here--one needed to be taken in at the waist considerably, and the other I wanted to have the legs tapered to be less boxy on my body. Both pairs came out perfect! Don't use for Suites. Brought two new suites to have the coat sleeves shortened and a full break put into one pair of pants. Had to bring all three pieces back. The sleeve ticket notes when i brought them back were "let us as much as possible" and they couldn't let the pants out to accomplish a full break because material was cut out. The employee gave me a lesson on units of measure and how length works. Mentioned it could have been because my legs were different lengths or one hip sat higher than the other? Not sure how it was applicable since they measure each sleeve, leg individually? So basically I paid to have them destroy my suites. read more

I went to the one at Bridgeville to alter the sleeves for four sport coats and hem a pair of jeans. The girl who took the order had so much of an attitude I decided to just do two of the coats and the jeans. This will be $123 and the customer service was unbelievably bad but it's Easter and I figured my son's coat will be ready. When I came back to pick up the order, another girl who I think went by Katie was so rude, she won't even get my stuff and said I had to wait for the original girl that did my order. So as I wait by the counter, she rudely told me to "back off the counter and give her some space" I was on the other side of the counter so I didn't even know what she was talking about but here we go again! So I took a couple of steps away from the counter but it wasn't enough for her. She then told me to "go take a seat over there" I heard enough at that point. The original girl finally showed up and was getting my stuff but this girl Katie wasn't done. She kept yelling something about if I don't like the service I can call their cooperate office! She pulled a business card from the stack and slammed it on the counter and in a very derogatory way said "Here you go..." I was in disbelief! Sicken by the experience and that I was paying $123 to support this business. I had even decided that if the job they did was good that I would leave the other two coats but realized that I made the right decision to not leave them initially. This place actually did a good job but they are so rude and the customer service is so terrible I will never go there again. I'm sure the folks who own this business did not intend for that type of service. It's a same too because I have a few more sport coats that could be altered so I will have to find a new place! I will NEVER NEVER NEVER take anything to this place again. The woman had an attitude from the moment I walked in (maybe a bad day for her?). She was short with me and made snarky comments about my garments and a comment I made about a hemming ruler that my late mother used to have. Anyway, I had 2 simple A-line above-the-knee dresses to be shortened. I asked that the hem be made deeper than the original ones. She wrote it down on the tickets, but when I picked them up they both had a 3/4" cheap looking hem @ $15 each. They offered me a 10% discount which I disgustedly accepted only because I was so agitated and didn't want to create a scene. Too bad for me if I had ever wanted to lengthen them. read more

(In regards to the comment, I'd like to make it clear that I didn't leave them with the impression that I was pleased.) So this was my second experience at Alterations Express. First time, I had brought in a pair of linen pants to be hemmed. Take them in, girl pins them up, says when I can pick them up, and off I go. When I picked them up, I didn't have time to look at them or try them on, so I just took them. Well, one leg was entirely a different length than the other. So I took them back. This time after I picked them up, both legs were too short, and since they were wide legged, I couldn't palm off an ankle length look, so they went to the goodwill, and I vowed I'd never return. Fast forward a couple years, and here we are again. I thought I'd give them another shot because my friend had a very intricate alteration done on a dress, and it was done perfectly. This was supposed to be easy, I thought. All they had to do was take it in. One of the seamstresses fitted me in it the first time I went in with this dress because it was too complex for the girl at the front to do, which I totally understand. Both ladies were very nice, and explained how they'd do it. The seamstress also told me that there was a chance there'd be a bubble at the bottom of the zipper because of excess fabric. She tapered the fabric with pins around the base of the zipper, and it looked pretty flat. I gave the ok, paid, left, and came back a couple days later. Tried it on, it fit really nicely, but yes, there was a GIANT bubble around the base of the zipper. I tell the girl I need an adjustment, so she goes and gets Barb F. who has done the work so she can see what needs to be changed. Barb F. was not nearly as nice as the woman who fitted me in the dress, and frankly seemed like she was jacked to have to come out and deal with someone. She didn't ask how I liked it, saw the bubble, pinned it, said she'd shorten the zipper, and raced out of the room. Whatever. Take it off, leave it, come back a few days later. I tried it on, and the bubble was mostly gone, but there was still too much fabric around the zipper, which is now about two inches shorter. Now the original seamstress comes in to see it. She's so nice -- super apologetic, explains why sometimes zipper work is tricky, and repins it. With her pinning, it is COMPLETELY FLAT. THERE IS NO BUBBLE. I SAY PERFECT AND THANK YOU. She tells me she's so sorry and that she'll have it for me the next day, which is today. So I go back this afternoon, try it on, and the bubble is still fucking there, and now my lining is bunchy underneath the outer shell of the dress, and when I move, you can see the lining coming down from under the dress. So the girl goes to get Barb F. again. And shockingly again, Barb F. is none too pleased to come out and look at the issue. I tell her about the bubble. Again. And then I mention the lining. Her response? "I didn't touch the lining." My response? "Well, I had it on literally yesterday, and it didn't sit like this." Like, I don't give a shit if she touched it or not. Maybe, since the lining is attached to the zipper and the rest of the dress, you have to pay attention to what you're doing?... She said, "I can take the lining in a little more if you want," but was obviously not going to show me how she'd do it, explain it, not even go over to the pins, or me, for that matter. I was like, "I'm not a seamstress. I don't know how to fix it. If you think it's not going to do anything, I'm just taking it." No response, out the door she goes. So at this point, I'd had it. This is now time number FOUR that I've had this dress on in front of these people. And the woman working on my dress clearly did not care about making me happy, or doing the right thing. Her unwillingness to admit that maybe she fucked it up while she was rushing through it made me completely unwilling to give any of them another chance to fix it and make it right. Got dressed, packed up, told the boyfriend we had to leave before I killed someone, and I left without any apology or goodbye from anyone there. When I got home, I turned it inside out. Everything she did is uneven and was clearly rushed. Not even her cuts of the fabric were cleaned up. No fucking the wonder it's bunchy underneath. Fortunately, it's wearable for New Year's as is. I'm focusing on details, but sorry, details are what make perfection happen. I am not in any way pleased with what I paid for, and I feel like I should have just worn it a size too big. I'm pissed. This was my feature Christmas gift from my boyfriend. He took me shopping where I wanted to go, was a good sport while I shopped and tried on, particularly loved this one, and paid a good amount of money for it. It's not ruined, but I hate myself for going against my gut for this alteration simply for the convenience of their location. Save your money, save your time, save your clothes. read more

I found this store initially when I needed a new zipper put on a jacket. The other 2 or 3 places I checked wanted double what Alterations Express charged; which would have been 1/2 the original price of this jacket. They were fast in fixing it so I thought I would give them another try. I recently took 2 suit jackets, 2 dresses (my 2 daughters' homecoming), my oldest daughters band jack and my youngest daughters pants to have altered. All of these came out to less than $25/item. I had 6 pairs of dress pants hemmed. The ladies working the counter were polite and prompt. The reason for the 1 star is that every single hem has since come out. I took 2 pairs of the pants back for restitching. Those also came out again. I suppose if you are altering something that will never get washed or is dry clean only this place will work for you. Otherwise save your money and the hassle and go somewhere else. read more

People make sure you check your stuff within the 10 days, if they do not do the work and you pay they do not help you they keep your money.....rip off I know I should have checked but when you don't do it and it is clear you didn't do the work you should be good to your word! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience. Earlier today I took a brand new pair of $130 Vince Camuto pants to Alterations Express in Bridgeville for a hem. I had already determined the level of the hem, placed hem binding on the raw edge, pressed the pants to where I wanted them hemmed and pinned the pants. All they had to do was hem the pants. When I went back to pick up the pants I immediately noticed that the hem tape was no longer on the pants and that the pants were hemmed 3/4 of an inch higher than where I had marked and pressed the pants (the original press line was still visible). When I questioned the counter person she went to the back room and returns stating that yes, MY PANTS WERE CUT and the HEM RAISED. REALLY!!! I have NEVER in my life had anything like this happen at any reputable alteration organization. IN ADDITION, they hemmed these dress pants using a straight hem instead of a blind hem. When I asked for a refund the counter person said this would have to be approved by the manager. She then went to the back to discuss the matter with the manager as I sat in the lobby for 30 MINUTES. I finally walked to the back and said this whole thing was absolutely ridiculous since they obviously made a huge mistake and were now hesitating refunding ELEVEN DOLLARS and FORTY-SEVEN cents. The female store manager then emerged and said she would not refund my money. If you read other reviews (that I unfortunately did not read before going there) you will see one bizarre story after another. I have yet to pick up my item from being altered, at which point I can add to this review or not, but the woman that I spoke to over the phone twice in the past week was beyond rude. I called last week just to ask a few questions about having something altered and she was extremely short and made no attempt to be helpful at all. I then decided it would be best to go in to the store itself to hopefully get some questions answered, and when I did it was an older woman who does the alterations who was super sweet and very helpful. They gave me a ticket for when I return to pick up my garment and I left. I called this morning just to check on my item and I got the same rude woman on the phone again. I asked if my item was done and she replied with "whatever your ticket says, that's when it's done, we don't finish things early" ok not a problem, but again, I just called to check, and she didn't even ask me what my ticket number was, what my last name is, nothing, so how would you know if my item was done or not? I'm not a complainer but her rude attitude was just uncalled for. read more
