I can't say enough about all the work Beteena did on my wedding gown. Her attention to detail and experience was just what I needed for the transformation of my gown! I was originally told the inside liner on the sides could be easily removed because it was a different version of the same dress I originally wanted. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case but Beteena made sure we got the lining out anyway to match the other dress as best as we could. Not only did it have to be altered tremendously because of my height, it also had to be taken in several dress sizes and you would never know how big it was to begin with after all her alterations! I found Beteena on a random google search one day, and I consider myself to be SOOO lucky that I found her. I called for an appointment for two bridesmaid dresses to be altered in July, and had my first appointment on August 3. Both weddings were in September. One dress (maroon) needed to be slightly hemmed, but the second dress (navy) was the tricky one. It was about 4 sizes too big and needed some serious work (shoulders taken in, cups, hemmed, etc). Beteena got it done within my time frame, and made sure it was perfect each and every time. The best part about working with her, was that she made me feel so comfortable. She is so incredibly sweet. In 1992 she did bridesmaids gowns for 4 women, only 1 of home was local and served as the model for the final creation Beteena designed. All other dresses were made for out of state bridesmaids who measured themselves and provided that info to Beteena. Beteena MADE the buttons which were on the jackets for these floor length dresses and then made earrings to match. Unique and beautiful. The evening before the wedding when they all arrived, only 1 bridesmaid needed a slight hem adjustment which Beteena completed immediately and swiftly. It's hard to just write a formal glowing review about Beteena and her talent of bridal alterations. She played such a larger role in my whole wedding planning and how I felt on my big day! Below I'd love to share with you a few of the reasons why Beteena is the best of all time. Initially I was concerned when I had ordered a gown size that I knew would almost certainly be way too large. I trusted the professionals and when it came in 10 months later it was definitely too big and falling right off my body (I could literally see from my top to my toes inside my dress). I was so worried; worried that this dress would never fit me like a glove and worried how much work and cost would have to go into it and if anyone would want to take on such a large project. Beteena came highly recommeneded by both the bridal salon and a friend of mine who had just recently been fit by Beteena. So when I called she so kindly booked me and was easy to communicate with both by phone and by text. When my dress didn't come in on time she had no issue with pushing it back a few weeks again. Within our first meeting I could tell how much Beteena cared about her work. She quietly analyzed the work that would be required. She pulled in different directions, reviewed the seams and material and asked me how I ultimately wanted the dress to fit and my vision for the wedding. Beteena and her shop offered a safe, quiet space away from the crazy world outside which I mentioned to her more than once. It was peaceful to be away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the stressfulness that is "wedding planning". It was such a wonderful experience every time my mom and I went to see Beteena because her calm and peaceful demeanor meant more to us than she knows. We hit a little snag during the weeks leading up to my big day when I broke my ankle unexpectedly. It caused me to lose quite a bit of weight. Going into my next appointment I was so worried that Beteena would be bothered to readjust my dress over and over again as my weight fluctuated up and down in different places until the day before the wedding. Beteena also unexpectedly had a burst pipe in her shop over the cold winter days and even then she was only concerned that her brides were taken care of. She worked tirelessly to manage the shop and her work and she did it with such grace when others may have been angry, overwhelmed or upset. When picking up my dress the day before my wedding it's hard to describe the emotions that I felt that day. Beteena had become a friend not just because she was a part of all of my mom and my wedding convos (lucky her lol) but because she genuinely cared so much that my dress and my day was perfect. She helped me choose a heel...and a sneaker (lol the broken ankle), a wrap, jewelry and makeup. She worked my bustle over and over again to make sure it was nothing short of amazing. I was feeling nervous to make sure I completed everything on my checklist before the big day and she truly made me feel confident and comfortable and reminded me just to enjoy the day. Beteena is more than just an amazing and talented seamstress she is a kind hearted, gentle and genuine woman who loves what she does and if you have the opportunity to meet her and have her work on your dress you are in the best hands of them all. I called Beteena 8 DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING to see if she would be able to help me, I couldn't be more thankful that she answered the phone. She fixed my dress in 5 days which is remarkable since she had to undo what the previous seamstress had done and then she beautifully altered my wedding dress to fit my body perfectly. Now that my wedding is over I can finally post this review I've been wanting to post. Words can't express how amazing Beteena is. She took my dress, which was one size too big, and made it look like it was created for me. She took each layer in meticulously and hand sewed the lace back on so that you'd never know a whole dress size was taken from the bodice. This is a very late review- since my wedding was back November 1, 2018. I went to Beteena due to the dress photos and reviews here and figured I should add my own. I absolutely loved the work she did on my dress. It was very large on me when I first bought it and it had to have a lot taken in and shortened. Since this was two years ago my memory is a bit spotty on the price but it was somewhere between $1,000-1,200. With all the work and layers of the dress she had to deal with, I believe this was a fair price. I had about four visits with her and she listened to everything I wanted and even gave suggestions (such as adding cups into my dress to hold my breast up better and pulling my train into a bustle.) She was straightforward with information and was focused during all of the visits which I very much liked. Overall I had an amazing experience with her. Some people may think her services are expensive (which in a way, they are) but it was worth every penny knowing I was going to have a flawless dress that fit me perfect. Beteena is an excellent seamstress and so easy to work with! I needed a lot done to my wedding dress: shortened by ~3 inches, shoulders pulled up, bust taken in, sleeves shortened. The dress was also heavily beaded at the bottom, which made me very nervous to get it altered. I went to Beteena with just six weeks until my wedding and she was a miracle worker. The dress had to be shortened from the bottom up, so Beteena removed all the beadwork by hand to ensure it looked the same when it was done. And it did! Words cannot describe how happy I was with the outcome of working with Beteena. I found her shop while I was looking for alterations for my wedding dress, and came across multiple raving recommendations for her on the Pittsburgh Bridal Community Facebook page. In terms of alterations, I was looking for my dress to be hemmed, add a bustle, as well as to have straps created for my existing strapless wedding gown. I have long debated on how to write this review for Beteena because all of her other reviews are so good. I went to Beteena BECAUSE of all of the amazing reviews I found online. However, my experience could not have been further from what other women experienced and I felt it was important to write an honest review. My wedding was Oct. 19th and I took my dress to Beteena mid August. At my first meeting with her, after she stared me up and down for a few minutes she said to me, "You need to lose 5 pounds, 8 would be better." (as an aside, I am a usual size 8-10 and my wedding dress was a size 16). She also went on to tell me that the material of my dress was practically impossible to work on and asked me how much it was because she also took that into consideration when deciding her pricing. In addition to losing weight she told me that "it was such a shame that I spent so much money on a dress that didn't have the seams tacked down and wasn't complete", (side note - the dress was finished and didn't have the seams tacked down intentionally). After her assessment, she told me she was going to have to take the straps in, create the bustle, and hem it - all for $750. Not really knowing what seamstresses usually charge, I assumed that was normal. Price aside, I left her store in tears, feeling pretty shitty about my self and actually hating my dress because of what she said. Fast forward 5 weeks, I lose 10 pounds, and I am back at Beteena's store excited to see how the dress fits after following her instructions. I put on the dress and walk out to show Beteena and she says (in her extremely cold tone) "Yes, looks much better, but it's still not right. Loosing weight didn't help much." So she pinned the dress where it needed to be pinned - all the while complaining about the material and how hard it was going to be to sew and not sure if she could complete it. After she finished pinning, I walked into the dressing room to change. When I walked out Beteena comes back over and tells me that since there is SO much more work to be done since I lost weight (which she told me to do) the new cost to alter the dress was going to be $1,170. It is important to point out here that there is not a stitch of lace or one bead on my dress. I now have less than a month to my wedding and I start crying in the middle of her store and say, "no, I am not paying that." She then tries to explain why it costs so much and tells me that "yes, I am much more expensive than everyone else because I pay such close attention to detail." She then continues to tell me there was nothing that could be done based on the material of my dress and she wasn't even sure she would be able to complete it even if I did pay her and she wasn't sure if anyone would be able to alter the dress (not something you want to hear 3 weeks from your wedding after already spending $2000+ on a gown). I leave Beteena's store in tears for the second time, absolutely hating my dress and panicked. Which, yes, seems dramatic, but if you are planning a wedding you will understand why I was crying when you get to 3 weeks out. I start asking friends for recommendations for other seamstresses and someone gives me the name and number of Peggy. To wrap up this long review, I went to see Peggy (who laughed out loud when I told her what Beteena was charging me) and she saved my dress. I will forever be grateful to her. Peggy met with me three days after I left Beteena's store in tears. After I tried the dress on for her she said, "Okay, this should be easy. I'll have it done in a week and it will be $125." Peggy did a PERFECT job for $1,000+ less than what Beteena was going to charge. To say the least, my experience with Beteena was not great. To Beteena's credit, when I went to pick up my dress after I stormed out of her store in tears she did ask how she could have handled the situation better and was remorseful when I explained how offended I was by her and how terrible she made me feel. I do not think that Beteena is a bad person or a bad seamstress but I would not recommend her based on my experience. read more

There are absolutely no words to describe my experience with Beteena. I ordered my wedding dress from BHLDN, which I was obsessed with ever since I got engaged. I took it to Beteena and left her business in tears after she told me that she did not feel comfortable altering my dress (which had happened maybe twice in her career...this dress was made for a giant ). While I appreciated her honesty, I found myself bawling in my car after, not knowing what to do!!!! Minutes later, my phone rings and Beteena has come up with a plan to fix my dress!!!!! I had an appointment with Beteena today and felt absolutely defeated upon leaving. I blame myself mostly for waiting too long- but when I scheduled the appointment Beteena knew my timeline and still chose to take the appointment. Without getting into too much detail-I believe Beteena did not agree to do my alterations because of my size. She lacked compassion and professionalism throughout the whole appointment experience. Beteena's made me feel so much calmer the instant we began discussing the dress. So, when I go engaged last year, there was no question that I would use her for my wedding gown alterations. As usual, her work was simply perfect! Her attention to detail and professionalism are beyond comparison and it was obvious that she truly cared about making me look my best on my wedding day. I ended up making significant alterations to my gown - removing layers of the skirt, removing the train, taking in the bodice, and hemming several inches. So happy to have found Beteena- She is a miracle worker who saved my dress and my wedding just two weeks before our ceremony! MB bride's alterations department left me with a mess of a dress two weeks before my wedding day. I was devastated, but Beteena got me in the next day and had my dress done in 1.5 weeks. I had to have everything redone, besides the bustle and hem- including new side seams, a front seam, adjustments of the straps, new cups sewn in and a complete rework of my lace overlay. I had paid MB Bride $300 to have all this done from apparently a VERY inexperienced seamstress. What a nightmare when you are talking about a $1600+ dress. Beteena brought me in, calmed me down and worked with my schedule to plan several fittings and correct the botched job. I found Beteena to alter my off the rack wedding dress at the last minute. She was able to get my dress completed within a few weeks and it looks wonderful. I had beaded sleeves that had to be taken in and the bead work had to be completely redone on top of the shoulders. It looks excellent.
