Salt therapy itself is phenomenal. We have used The Salt Retreat for over three years for our kids…read moreand for ourselves as a natural way to support sinus health, colds, and overall wellness. The treatment works. We believe in it and have referred many families over the years because of that. The issue is not the therapy. It is the ownership experience. James' demeanor, tone, and communication style are consistently passive aggressive and customer unfriendly. As long term paying members, we were repeatedly policed about start times, end times, and minor cleanup expectations in a way that felt adversarial rather than service oriented. To be clear, we never objected to following posted guidelines. We understand there are rules in a children's salt room. With an 18 month old and a four year old, some salt occasionally ends up outside the sandbox area. That is simply reality. If the business needs to charge a small cleaning fee when that happens, that is completely reasonable. We would gladly pay it. What is not reasonable is being treated like a problem instead of a customer. On more than one occasion, feedback was delivered through body language, abrupt door handling, and indirect comments, including waiting until I stepped out to address concerns with my 37 week pregnant wife. There was also a direct comparison that "this doesn't happen when the nanny comes," which felt personal and unnecessary. This was never about refusing to follow policies. It was about professionalism and basic respect. We have referred multiple families over the years who have independently shared similar feedback about James' tone and demeanor. His wife has always been warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, James' presence creates a very different experience. If you are considering The Salt Retreat, know that the therapy itself is excellent. Just understand that the customer experience may not match the quality of the treatment.

I have allergies/sinus issues and I could tell a difference with the first session. The group room had 4 chairs in it, they were reclining and also heated which was awesome. I would recommend bringing a small blanket or a jacket with you, it is a little chilly in the room. They also have private rooms if you'd prefer to be alone.

We had a little time today so we decided to try the salt cave at the new place in Roanoke - Zen…read moreHaven. We had tried a salt cave before at another location, but they closed quite some time back and this is the first I had heard of another place offering one locally. We had a little trouble scheduling online, so we decided to see if we could just walk in and see if there was availability. We could, and there was! Andrea, the owner, gave us a tour of the place and explained how each item/service benefitted the mind and/or body. The setup and colors are very relaxing and inviting, and boy, did it smell good in there! Their salt cave, called the "Zen Den" has 4 extremely soft and cushiony chairs available, and we were each given a heated neck wrap. Andrea started the salt, which I could taste on my lips once it got going. I concentrated on breathing and tried not to think about anything besides this time to relax. My eyes were heavy, and I occasionally opened them for a moment to see the pretty twinkling lights in the ceiling before closing them again. There was soothing music playing as well, and Andrea had told us that it was a certain frequency to enhance relaxation. The 45 minutes went by too fast, and Andrea came in and offered us citrus infused water, then told us to take our time coming out. I seriously don't remember the last time I was so relaxed! The hydro massage had interested me, so we figured I might as well try it while we were there. It was amazing! Absolutely wonderful! It is sort of like a massage chair at a spa, multiplied by about a million. The water can massage you head to toe, or you can set it to concentrate on a particular part of your body. I'm having some pretty intense lower back pain and haven't found anything that helps, so I targeted my lower back and turned up the intensity. The speed was also adjustable. My back pain hasn't been quite so intense today, so I am cautiously optimistic that I have found something that will provide at least some relief! I scheduled a reiki session for next week, along with another visit to the zen den. I will also be trying their "recovery" circuit, which includes a session in the "salt booth", time in the hydro massage bed and 45 minutes in the infrared sauna. I haven't scheduled that one yet, but am excited to try it all! There are varying levels of membership, but you can schedule sessions without having a membership. There wasn't a "hard sell" to purchase a membership, which I greatly appreciated! Please support this local business! They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday but have hours into the evening on other days, which I find convenient!

I booked a massage and I didn't get a massage…read more So why am I giving it 5 stars you ask? The service. Vivian the manager was great. Backstory: I am in town for my friends baby shower. She's 41, this is her first baby. It will probably be her ONLY baby. The women's body is crazy like that. Happy I'm able to decide what I want to do with my body. Tangent. I booked 2 massages. A maternity one and a regular Swedish massage. My friend goes in right before the appointment time. Perfect! My turn is coming right? Someone calls my name. Oops. She meant Catherine. Not Caroline. Idk that mistake happens often. I know because I have a sister whose name is Catherine. So I sit down. 20 minutes after my appointment time, the manager comes in and tells me the therapist didn't show up and they're fully committed today. (No wonder they confirmed the appointment a million times) she basically said "you ain't getting your massage today" but, nicer, wayyy nicer lol Am I annoyed? 100% Am I irritated? Totally I text my husband who is the rational one in the relationship and he said "give them some grace, it's not their fault someone didn't show up to work." He is right. They totally made up for it. I did the halotherapy which is this salt treatment thing and we got 2 pedicures. She even ended up comping my friends massage. The whole thing was comped. Honestly, she didn't have to do that. I could sense that she REALLY felt bad. Sometimes people apologize because they feel like they have to and it's not genuine. She was genuine. If I was a local, I'd come back just for the service. My friend loved her massage and really that's all that matters. (I have one scheduled in San Diego at the end of the month anyways) #firstworldproblems I hope my therapist is okay.

I love that ALWC offers various wellness treatments and continues to expand their wellness…read moretreatments. Throughout the past year I've been able to try their salt therapy room, vitamin shot, whole body vibration machine and foot detox. The salt therapy room was a cool experience and I loved that they had Bluetooth speakers inside the cubicle. I tried their whole body vibration machine today which was a wierd but cool experience. After a couple of minutes I tried a couple of the suggestive poses and became comfortable with the whole body vibration machine. Through the various treatments I've noticed my body feels better and soreness level is reduced as I tend to come here after a workout. The ladies at the front are sweet and friendly. I look forward to my next visit.

I scheduled a full body thermography, so there was a lot of prep involved. Or lack there of because you couldn't shower, brush your teeth, take vitamins and bunch of other items leading up to your appointment. They don't want anything to interfere with the results, which I totally get. My appointment went well, but there was some confusion as to my appointment to review the report. After a bunch of back and forth, I decided to just have my doctor (a certified smarty pants aka DO!) review it. All in all, I would still go back and try other services. I really want a detox foot bath!
