2nd visit to Alton Cracker Factory (Lewis Suite) & another great home base for an extended weekend of activities with great river views. Able to house 4 adults and 2 kids, blow up mattresses. Mike (the owner) was very responsive and supportive. While the weather wasn't super, the suite was a great space for some family indoor activities. One recommendation would be to add some privacy blinds to the main windows so that guests on the shared deck space can't see into the main living spaces, especially after dark.

I was hosting a baby shower for some dear friends, but needed a bit more space to accommodate everyone. I reached out to The Cracker Factory and Mike promptly responded answering all my questions. I chose to stay two nights to (treat myself) have plenty of time for set-up and clean up. The Eagle's Nest was gorgeous and perfect for the shower. Even on a gloomy November weekend, the view of the riverfront is incredible. Everyone at the shower was very impressed with the space and I heard many people chatting about booking for a friends' weekend, NYE, 4th of July, etc. There is a bit of walking up stairs as they don't have an elevator but it's really not bad and I hauled *a lot* of stuff upstairs and downstairs. Can't wait to stay again - just for fun!

We had a beautiful, fun, 90th birthday celebration for Bonnie at the Cracker Factory. The Cracker Factory was absolutely perfect in every way!! The best owner and staff ever!! Stunning accommodations in a perfect location! The perfect size for our family event. Everything about this place goes above and beyond expectations!! We had the event in the Penthouse suite but also used a couple of the other suites for out of town family members. Everything was outstanding! We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed the Cracker Factory, everything was PERFECT!! If I could rate it a 20, I would!!

Awesome! We rented the penthouse for a bridal happy hour shower and it was the perfect event space for our thirty guest. Having a full kitchen, island and huge dining table gave us plenty of service space for all the booze and food. The large living room was roomy and allowed all the guest to gather around as the bride opened all her gifts. The penthouse also has two bedrooms each with its own bathroom and a laundry room. Everyone joked how they could live here. It truly is that homey and comfortable. A true highlight was huge and I do mean huge balcony with a view of the majestic Mississippi river. A gas grill and two dining tables on the balcony would be perfect for a 4th of July party to view the fireworks. After the BHHS, a select group of the ladies spent the night and loved it. This is a hidden gem in the Alton area. If you need a B &B in the Riverbend area, I highly recommend the Alton Cracker Factory. I'll be back? - If the opportunity arises & highly recommend. When: April 28, 2019 Why: Bridal Shower in Penthouse

The website for the Cracker Factory is spot on! Owner Mike hasn't been renting out these four units very long - because he has been putting a lot of time and thought into getting his project done right - but the units are available now and they are awesome!!! My small group stayed in the Lewis suite. Two beautiful bedrooms - two beautiful bathrooms and the highest quality of materials throughout. Just the windows and doors to the deck/balcony cost a zillion dollars. Ok, maybe I exaggerate a wee bit. This property is THE place to stay if you are hanging out in the St. Louis area for more than one night. If you are in the St. Louis area on business it appears Mike will give you a good rate for the week. However the regular daily price is no more than Hampton Inn. This property is located in Alton - about 30 minutes to St. Louis on a Sunday. There are some really interesting things in and around Alton (including Grafton down the river road a bit). Alton is undergoing a transition from a lot of antique stores to a decent amount of antique stores and a growing number of pretty good eateries. Stayed three days this visit. Planning on coming back in October to stay another three or four.

What a DUMP! The place stunk of must and cigarette smoke. The couch had huge rips in it and the furniture looked like something they got off the sidewalk. I turned on the water and a bunch of brown came put if the faucet. I asked if Jim if we could cancel our following nights stay and get a refund. Jim agreed and I told him what we found. A living room and sitting room each complement the rest of the home. The decor and furnishings are what I would call "farmhouse eclectic". Do not expect the plush antiques of the average B&B. The house is comfortable and cozy. The kitchen is roomy with a full sized refrigerator, range with a double oven, microwave and coffeepot. The master bedroom contains a queen sized bed and more then enough closet and drawer space, The second bedroom is smaller, but will easily accommodate two or three small children or a second couple willing to share a single bed. The living room has plenty of comfortable chairs and a very nice couch and table. The sitting room is an added sun-room area. The property is located on a small working farm with some friendly cattle and a fishing pond. There was even a mother robin nesting in a wreath on the front porch! The atmosphere is quiet and serene. The cellular and G3/G4 reception is nearly none existent and no WiFi is available. Ideal for those wanting to get "away from it all" The facility also has no land-line telephone. Good cell, mobile and data reception are available in nearby Alton, Il. for those who need it. There are some locally owned restaurants In Grafton including the "Mississippi Half-Step" which we really enjoyed. For those who prefer chain eating establishments, Alton offers the usual fast food and other casual dinning places. St. Louis Mo. is about 30 miles away, placing the big city attractions within a comfortable distance. The rental cost was very reasonable, about what you would pay per night at a lower end chain motel. This was for a small house, not a cramped guest-room. . The owner does not take debit/credit cards so a check or money-order is needed for the reservation deposit. The balance of the rent can be paid by check, money-order or cash. We found our time at the Homestead Retreat to be restful, refreshing and revitalizing. The lack of electronic disturbances made this guest-house a true retreat from the noise and hurry of the world. We strongly recommend the Grafton Homestead Retreat for any small group looking for a quiet time. It truly is a retreat and a treat!

The property is actually on a farm, near a field which was currently mostly flooded. 10 minute drive from Edwardsville, IL, 20 minute drive from St. Louis. Room was very private and comfortable, with a full bed, small living/dining area and kitchenette (studio apartment style), and private bathroom with shower/tub. Many windows and charming quaint decor. The hosts are a retired woman and her adult son - we had a nice chat with the woman, who was super friendly, accommodating, and casual. Prices were reasonable/comparable to other options. They offer a homemade breakfast but we opted to go out instead. The heater in the room has a loud fan, and the house is within earshot of the freeway and railroad tracks so there is some ambient/background noise (but nothing beyond what would occur at usual hotels near freeway). The room has a lot of quaint religious items, such as a print of Jesus above the bed, and little knick-knacks with religious sayings. If this sort of thing bothers you, you won't want to stay here. Although we are not religious, it did not bother us - as I said, the owner was super nice, friendly, easy going, and I think would be easy to talk to regardless of your religious background/beliefs. Free wifi and a fridge stocked with waters and can sodas, plus coffee maker and tea bags. She even left us a snack when we arrived (bowl of fresh grapes, plate of crackers, bowl of spreadable cheese)! Overall a great experience.
