What a DUMP! The place stunk of must and cigarette smoke. The couch had huge rips in it and the furniture looked like something they got off the sidewalk. After a fun day in Grafton, we returned to a warm fire pit. Deborah thought of all the small touches such as lighting torches and offering big spray. In the morning, we were served the most delicious breakfast! I honestly can't pick a favorite portion, as it was all fantastic. I would highly recommend the Maple Leaf Cottage Inn, and can't wait until I can make a return trip!

The Inn has the same warm and homey feel to it as it was with Connie and Gary. They have converted the "antique" room to a game room and filled it with board games ( or bring your own.) The breakfasts were fantastic (especially Megan's breakfast pizza with a puff pastry crust.) The afternoon treats are amazing (cinnamon pecan coffee cake and fresh raspberry cheesecake tarts..yumm!) The common area with the fireplace and the comfy couch and chairs is perfect after a day of hiking a Pere Maquette or exploring Grafton. The rooms are cozy and very clean. It is such a relaxing getaway ! I look forward to many more trips to the Green Tree Inn !

Breakfast was lovely, and hot and cold beverages were available in the common area along with Connie's delicious homemade treats -- she even insisted on packaging up brownies for us to take on the road when we departed! When visiting, do ask Connie and Gary for instructions on how to take a self-guided driving tour of nearby Principia College, which features many amazing buildings by architect Bernard Maybeck and stunning views from the bluffs of the Mississippi River. I'll be looking for an excuse to return to Elsah for another stay at Green Tree Inn... Highly recommended!

The day was incredibly hot and he acted like it was no big deal. They would not even take anything for there time and trouble. The property is actually on a farm, near a field which was currently mostly flooded. 10 minute drive from Edwardsville, IL, 20 minute drive from St. Louis. Room was very private and comfortable, with a full bed, small living/dining area and kitchenette (studio apartment style), and private bathroom with shower/tub. Many windows and charming quaint decor. The hosts are a retired woman and her adult son - we had a nice chat with the woman, who was super friendly, accommodating, and casual. Prices were reasonable/comparable to other options. They offer a homemade breakfast but we opted to go out instead. The heater in the room has a loud fan, and the house is within earshot of the freeway and railroad tracks so there is some ambient/background noise (but nothing beyond what would occur at usual hotels near freeway). The room has a lot of quaint religious items, such as a print of Jesus above the bed, and little knick-knacks with religious sayings. If this sort of thing bothers you, you won't want to stay here. Although we are not religious, it did not bother us - as I said, the owner was super nice, friendly, easy going, and I think would be easy to talk to regardless of your religious background/beliefs. Free wifi and a fridge stocked with waters and can sodas, plus coffee maker and tea bags. She even left us a snack when we arrived (bowl of fresh grapes, plate of crackers, bowl of spreadable cheese)! Overall a great experience.

I sent a message to hotel management to see about a 12-1pm check in if possible. They responded with an approval email for a 12-1pm check in but when I arrived the lady at the counter said 1). I can't check in before 4p because the system won't allow her to do it, plus the rooms were being cleaned but she will call me when the room is ready. 2). Around 1:40p and said the room was ready but when I tried to check in she said her system was down and that I'll have to fill out the paperwork. Fine. I gave her my ID and she says because I'm from Missouri I have to pay an additional $200 fee and it can only be cash. Now I'm on I've league scholar but I know when I'm being played because as soon as I walked out, a $253 transaction was attempted on my account from Best Western Plus. Now how is that possible if the systems were down as she said prior. Never going back to that hotel.

Around 9:30 o'clock in the evening, noise became worse as it almost seemed like they were purposely jumping and stomping around. Since they are kids and I wasn't sure if there was even any adults watching them. I've decided to come down and talk to the front desk agent to kindly ask if he can check or call that room to tell them to at least turn it down a little bit because they have been causing disturbances for hours --people are trying to sleep. But instead, the front desk clerk rudely told me to go to their room and tell them myself. While I was there, one of the kids came down to get popcorn. The clerk added "there you go, tell him" and laughed. Very unprofessional. I went back to our room and decided to book a different hotel and leave. We had to pack up and leave at 10pm with our toddler. The room cleanliness wasn't already there. Being treated bad was what made our family's whole experience worse. Would rate ZERO stars if I can!
