we have been there a number of times for the salad and regular buffet, which has always been good. The last time we were there about a month ago we were hungry for supper, club fair, and ordered off the menu. Unfortunately, disappointing really do not appreciate hollandaise sauce on my tenderloin, which I asked for on the side and was not served that way. The rest of our parties meals were OK at best. So stick to their regular daily lunch and dinner buffets. They are wonderful, especially the shrimp. read more

The last stop on our weekend tour was the Altona brunch buffet on Sunday. We arrived around 9:30 and were told we could choose a table anywhere. When we left, they were starting to have people wait to be seated. The brunch buffet is only 14.99 and you get an amazing spread of soups, rolls, salad bar, a breakfast section and a lunch section, as well as a dessert table that also has an ice cream machine! Their dining area goes on FOREVER! There is the main room where the buffet tables are, but then there I am entire banquet hall full of tables behind it. The breakfast options were: eggs, hashbrowns, hashbrown patty, sausage links, waffle bites, breakfast pizza, an omlette/skillet The lunch options were: mashed potatoes, gravy, ham, broasted chicken, BBQ ribs, deep fried shrimp, corn and bacon was over there as well. The salad bar was a deluxe option, with everything along with the salads like Mac salad. In this area, I do wish they would have some labels, as I took a salad that looked delicious, but had tuna in it. I HATE tuna. But I just kept thinking if anyone had issues with tuna and took that. Big oops. But their bow tie Mac salad was amazing. All the food was delicious. My only food disappointment was the dessert I tried. We came here for the brunch buffet in Sunday. The place was busy but not full. We got a table immediately. They have 3 tables full of goodies. Two hot tables and a soup and salad bar. I did not have everything that was offered, but what I did have was very good. The BBQ ribs were a little dry and tough the first time I tried them, but after they brought out a new pan, those ribs were juicy and falling off the bone tender. The hashbrowns, eggs, and ham were good. The fried chicken was excellent. The salad bar was stocked with fresh greens and toppings. The only thing that was not to my liking was the chicken dumpling soup. The soup had little flavor. It could have used some seasoning. The staff there were very accommodating. My husband and I came here for their brunch buffet on a Sunday. The dining room was busy but not packed. There is ample seating, and it's not crowded. The decor was typical supper club decor. They had 3 tables fiull of hot and cold choices. The salad bar was full of fresh veggies and toppings. I loaded up my plate with salad and chose a cup of chicken dumpling soup. I went on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. Big restaurant and bar. Decorated ok. The drinks were good and nice pour, 5 stars. I was debating between the Friday night seafood buffet or ordering off the menu. Either comes with the salad bar. The salad bar has all the standards and was good. I give it 4 stars. The seafood buffet was ok. A lot of fried foods. The gilled haddock and fried coconut shrimp were good. I give it 3 stars. All the food was ok or good, nothing wow or delicious. The buffets were constantly being stocked and the food was hot. For the price, I guess you can't expect amazing. I'll go back but I think I'll order off the menu. read more

This is a great supper club! We came here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to find $5 bloody Mary's and a full glass of beer as a chaser. They had a wonderful buffet! It has been a while since we visited Altona SupperClub in New Holstein. We have always enjoyed our past visits and decided to let them cook for us for New Years Eve 2023. We saw online they were hosting a marvelous buffet and decided it would be perfect for our party of four. We arrived and were seated right away. Service was fantastic. We opted for the buffet (altho they did permit menu ordering which was so versatile for a holiday meal.) The buffet was fantastic. There was a huge salad and soup bar which was superlative. All the entrees were delicious (among the four of us we managed to sample the variety of the buffet items.) Especially tasty were the medallions of beef, the roasted chicken, and the barbecue ribs. The variety of potato sides, corn, fish, shrimp (breaded and boiled!) were all perfect. In addition to cocktails, we also enjoyed brandy Alexanders for dessert. A wonderful time, and a special shout to Michael our server who kept everything running smoothly--his attention to detail and his speedy service for drinks, clearing plates in between courses, and friendly demeanor are a testament to the wait staff at Altonas. We will be back next weekend for the breakfast brunch for more fun! read more

First, I wish people would refrain from negative reviews during Covid and short staffing, lack of available food items etc... That said, WOWOWOW! Ate here last night, got twin lobster tails ! Came with potatoes, I chose twice baked, hubby got the seafood buffet. The BEST flavorful potato EVER. Even the fried chicken must be marinated before frying, the actual meat was loaded with flavor and tender! The coconut shrimp, as good as it gets. The salad bar leaves nothing to be desired, fresh eggs, grated cheese, somehow even the cottage cheese tasted better:) The prices are EXCELLENT for everything you get including the lobster prices. They're smart, they buy in mass bulk, refusing to run out of anything, if possible. The staff and owners are SUPER, super nice and accommodating. It's about a 45 minute drive for us, but that's ok. They sell food here and have a bar, and that's about it. In fact it's basically a banquet hall with a bar and a little arcade. It definitely seems like the hangout for the surrounding communities, as it was busy when we went there. The service was really good, our waiters and waitresses were always attentive. The food just didn't seem as fresh as could be though; but for a price of $12 for the buffet, I guess that would be asking too much. To be fair I think the food was fairly priced and wasn't the worst that I could've had, but it could've been better. Overall, I think this is a good option if you want to try something other than the McDonalds or other pubs and bars in the area. read more

We had the pleasure of eating here this past Thursday. It's very bright and clean looking with nice decor. The old fashions are great. They have a nice salad bar with a soup also. Not what I was expecting from a "supper club" - it's actually a buffet. Decent salad bar, the house dressing was really good. Chicken and dumplings soup was really brothy although had a lot of veggies and chicken chunks. Certain things on the buffet could have benefited from being more simple - most notably a green bean and broccoli mess that would have been better as either steamed broccoli or plain sautéed green beans, and the only other option for a veg was corn (other than salad bar). They had some good looking steak chunks that were pretty flavorless. Disappointing. Liver and onions were okay as was the chicken. Everything was just okay. The pricing and quality of the food from Altona makes it the best restaurant in New Holstein. The food is pretty great. I will note that I have not actually been to The Altona, we ordered tenderloin and a french dip to go -- and then another time tenderloin and a cheeseburger. My husband remarked that the other customers were keen on staring and didn't seem very welcoming, so I knocked off a star (not that that's the place's fault -- but the atmosphere is created by who's in there). Regardless, I would definitely go in sometime soon. The au jus is delicious, the protein is always cooked right, and I was a happy camper with our selections. read more

The first thing in all of the ads that I have seen, is "crab legs" and in my latest visit - I saw approx. 15 legs (total). I am talking about total, not what I or any of my party had. I don't believe any of us had the pleasure of enjoying one and I overheard many asking where they were. The rest of the food was good and other then the fact that they seated others in place of us, with our reservation - they did seat us right away once they realized what they had done . We have been coming here for over 20 years and I've seen better times and I have seen it worse. We do have to travel about an hour to dine here, so I think I will be passing on coming back for a bit. I hope this is a wake up call for them and they start serving crab legs for their customers again. read more

Came to this restaurant for a funeral reception, neither my husband or myself had ever eaten here before although having passed by it many times as a result of shopping regularly at Honeymoon Acres. The restaurant was very bright, well kept and staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The buffet was a very pleasant surprise, food was excellent from the salad bar, soup and the hot food was excellent. The staff were very attentive to making certain the food was being refilled as needed and nothing ever was left empty. We definitely will be back to try this again, maybe for their weekend buffets. We went there Sunday about 1 pm thinking we could get that Supper Club experience for lunch. We found out that they were serving a brunch buffet which some Supper Clubs do and do very well. That was not the case with the Altona Supper Club on our visit. First off, many of the items were on the cooler side. I know it can be tough to keep it all hot but there were enough people there that it should have been hotter. The fried breaded shrimp looked terrific but it tasted a little greasy and the cocktail sauce was basically ketchup. No real bite to it. The chicken was good but it was cold. The eggs benedict was also cold and seemed like a fried egg rather than a poached egg. Bacon was good but the tiny biscuits were hard and the sausage gravy was tasteless. For $12 per person though it's cheap enough. Problem is even at that price we would not go back there for Brunch. We would try it out for dinner though. read more
