This compounding pharmacy is a joke. I needed a compounded prescription filled and told my doctor to send it to Alvarado Pharmacy since it's the closest compounding pharmacy to my house. I called the only number I could find for them and received a recorded message saying "thank you for contacting "Richmond" pharmacy. Umm who the hell is Richmond Pharmacy? Any I hung up and decided to try again later. Oh and my first call was on a Monday. So I called again the next day, Tuesday, and wow someone answered the phone! They answered as Alvarado Pharmacy, which was pretty confusing since it was still the same number that auto-answers as Richmond (still have no idea what the whole Richmond thing is about), so I asked if they have my prescription. The answer was, "Oh I couldn't tell you because nobody is at the pharmacy right now we'll be compounding again on Friday". Now I'm really confused lol. Anyway, I wasn't in the mood to figure out who the hell these idiots are or what's going on with them I kinda needed my prescription! I simply hung up and called my doctor and had the prescription re-routed to a normal compounding pharmacy. The new pharmacy received my prescription that same day and filled it within three hours. Oh the story continues lol... FF to the following Monday, yes a week later, and I get a message from Alvarado Pharmacy that they've received my order and are working on it lol. I just ignored and deleted the message and blocked the number. I'm still confused lol! This clown show is highly NOT recommended. read more

Average experience I'd say. The first time I tried to pick something up, they were randomly closed during the week, despite the door hours saying otherwise. I showed up and there was a paper sign in the door. Staff was friendly, but not overly peppy or excited to be there. The stars are for the excellent service and affordable pricing but I probably will not be back. The compounded liquid I got for my furmonster is oily and tastes like mediciney chicken (yes I tasted it after my cat made the funniest face and shook his head when I gave it to him). God forbid you spill this stuff on anything because you will smell like medicine chicken hours later despite washing yourself with soap and water. Can't say enough great things about my experience here. I had to get an antibiotic here for our house rabbit, Ziggy. Peter took great care and concern in seeing that Ziggy got the proper dosage and care to help resolve his injury quickly. Peter also found out that one of the other antibiotics he was taking would also adversely react with the new one. So he saved us a ton of potential heart ache and complications by being so diligent. Extremely rude! Highly NOT recommended! I called this pharmacy because I was late for my second Covid vaccine shot. I assumed this was the Alvarado Pharmacy at Alvarado Ct but apparently this was the Reservoir Drive location. Regardless of my oversight , the man who picked up the phone didn't have to be so rude! Once I explained I was calling about my second shot he rudely answered me "Why are you calling me?!". I reiterated the reason and he scoffed and said "I don't give vaccine shots I don't know why you're calling me". Really sir???! It would cost you nothing to kindly refer me to the right location less than two miles away which I'm very sure you know about. The world is hurting enough already! Do better please! read more

I am giving 3 stars because it averages out. On the one hand, something this pharmacy did deserves 1 star (or negative stars, if that were possible), and on the other, I have used them for coming up on 3 years now and other than this one horrendous incident, they have been very good. They even (sometimes) call when my prescriptions are running low to see if I need a refill. Onto the horrible incident: They are a compounding pharmacy, of which there are very few around. I get several compounded medications, so when I moved to California, I was pleased to see that there was a compounding pharmacy right around the corner. But soon after I started using them, one of my symptoms began to worsen until it was the worst it had been in years. This went on for months, and I had no idea what was going on. Then, towards the end of the semester, I got a call from my doctor saying, "So...I just heard from the pharmacy and...they messed up their calculations. Instead of 50 mg of one of your drugs, you've been getting 15 mg since August." WHAT?!?! No wonder I was having such a miserable time! I think most people would probably have switched pharmacies at that point, but there are so few compounding pharmacies and this one was so convenient to where I was living that I stayed. They've been fine ever since, but that incident with the wrong calculation caused some issues that I am still far from getting over, and I still have a bitter taste in my mouth about it. read more

Wonderful staff and excellent prices! First time client yesterday and couldn't I be more pleased. My cat needed a prescription that called for "compounding" and Alvarado Pharmacy is one of the few in San Diego that will do this. All of my contacts with them were very positive including when I picked up Jasper's prescription last night. They took extra time to explain to me Jasper's medication even though it was close to closing for them. This is best pharmacy.It reopened near the end of 2017 with a new owner who is the nicest man! Not only are prices the best and cheapest you will find, but service is incredible as well. They reopened about a year ago and i couldn't be more pleased with the new owner. They fill both human and canine/feline scripts at lowest prices . I found out that my ped meds were way cheaper here than the vet so you must ask about their pet prices when you are there. read more

If you want a fair price and great service from great people, Alvarado Pharmacy Services is really the way to go. I get a compounded medication every month that insurance doesn't cover. I pay between $42 and $47 per refill. At University Compounding Pharmacy, they wanted over $120 for the same prescription. Go figure. In any case, Alvarado Pharmacy and the pharmacist, Dr. Brower, are always consistent, personable and helpful. read more

My prescriptions are always filled correctly and quickly, the service is much better than at larger facilities like CVS, and it's super convenient if you are seeing one of the doctors/providers in the area of Alvarado Hospital. Just got my prescription filled and I must say I'm pleased with their service. The people I spoke with to get my prescription filled were super nice and they even got my precription filled quickly and I paid $12 less than my other pharmacy. I did not realize I was so low on my medication and I had no more refills and I moved 45 minutes away from my other pharmacy. They got my prescription filled with in a few hours and did their best to get it done before the holiday weekend because I would of been out of my medication by Monday and their office and other pharmacies were closed also. One thing I did not like was thwy are not open on weekends but they make it up with their great customer service. read more

I was going to this place for many months. Sometimes they don't answer their phone. They never updated my phone no. to the correct no., or the security code on the back of my credit card. Then the Flexible Spending Account credit card would not work with their system so I asked them to keep only my Discover credit card. They did not update it after asking them after 2 calls saying your card was declined. The pharmacist May laughed twice when I was telling her about these situations. I told her customers don't like people laughing at them. She just didn't get it. I told The owner, Bill about this and he didn't apologize or say I will talk to her. Very unprofessional. The reason this place doesn't get fewer than three stars is that I've been going for over a year every month or two with no problems at all. In fact, I was there 2 days ago and everything was great. Today; however, my wife went to pickup another prescription and was told they don't have a contract with my insurance company. I asked if something had changed since two days ago (different pharmacist) when they last filled a prescription for me with the same insurance, and the only response she could muster was that they don't have a contract with my insurance company. I then repeated, that I've been going to this pharmacy for well over a year with no problems and most recently two days ago with no complaints about my insurance, are you sure you don't have a contract with my insurance company?. Her response was repeated word for word. She was unwilling to even double-check, or state the only other possibility which is they stopped taking my insurance just yesterday. I've also always gotten my explanation of benefits statements showing payments to the pharmacy from my insurance. So, I don't know what happened, but I guess I won't be back as they don't have a contract with my insurance company. read more

I am sorry to say, but I recieved sub par service and was very disappointed in the pharmacist's lack of knowledge of how certain medications interact. I wont bore you with the details, but a medication I was perscribed is contraindicated, when in capsule form, with another medication I must take daily. It is a given that the medication I needed to be filled had to be administered transdermal in order for me to take both meds at the same time. The pharmacist proceeded to talk crazy and refused to even look up the fact that I'm right, not to mention that I am published in a reputable endocrinology journal that covers this specific information. The WORST part was that they would not take the medication back (I had not left the pharmacy with the meds so they should have taken it back) and then charged me $60 for pills that I cannot take. HORRIBLE customer service, and lack of knowledge. Don't go here! read more

I was a customer of Alvarado Compounding Pharmacy for about 4 years. Compounding pharmacies are few and far between, so it is inconvenient to stop using Alavarado, but their service is so bad that I have no choice. i had been using a particular prescription for three years without incident or interruption. When I recently called in to refill the prescription, I did not hear that it was ready. Finally, I went into the pharmacy and asked about this order. The pharmacist informed me that there had been a drastic increase in the price, which had previously been very modest on this generic prescription. When I asked if he would check to see if my insurance covered it, he looked at the system, said that it was not covered, but mentioned the name of a health plan to which I did not subscribe. i later verified that my plan did cover the prescription. The pharmacist then rudely told me that i would have to go to another pharmacy to get the prescription filled. Although I have spent significant money in this pharmacy over the years, my business was not important enough for this individual to be courteous or make the slightest effort to assist me. I will certainly never deal with Alvarado again. With that attitude, I would not trust them to fill any prescription. If they cannot treat customers with common courtesy, they should go out of business. The other bad reviews of this pharmacy are highly credible. read more

So I have been buying compounded meds for my cats for more than 10 yrs. This is the first time using multiple compounding pharmacies in AZ and CA that I have had an issue. They were quick to take payment and verified my address and then a couple days later my phone rang but I didn't pick up in time and they didn't leave a message, so I figure they misdialed. I probably shouldve called to see what they wanted, but I didn't. a week goes by my cat is still walking around the house crying in what the Vet thinks is pain... still no meds. so I call and their excuse is NOT that they wanted to verify my address or it got mislabled, but "I called there was no answer...." I have caller I.D. and voice mail... No answer? Then I ask what do you need? their response is I dont have any notes in front of me is your address...... Yup that is right. Okay we'll mail it out tomorrow. They didn't need anything and they didn't have the courtesy to call me and ask whatever they wanted, but didnt need. I am still confused and still getting woken up by a crying cat. avoid this incompetent pharmacy. I will order out of state from now on and be assured it will arrive quickly. read more
