Our old A/C unit died in the middle of a heat wave. My daughter recommended these guys. They were here in a couple hours with a new unit. They installed a new unit without issue, and it's still sitting on the roof working great. We've had them service that unity a number of times. If I could give this review zero stars, I would. I first had this company put in a brand new air conditioner unit in 2009 and every year, I would have them come out and check it to make sure it was still in great condition. My experience with this company had been great up until this year. I called to schedule a routine service like I had been annually and when I called, the person who answered had asked if he could call me back in five minutes as he was driving. He never returned my call. I called the following day and scheduled an appointment for the following week. This company never showed up or called. I called the following day and had asked what had happened and they had no response, but agreed to come out that same day for service. At this point I had turned on my air conditioner for two weeks without issues. Two men came out and stated that they needed to replace a part and add three pounds of coolant, which I was more than happy to pay for and totaled $367; however, two days later, my house remained at 86 degrees. I called and the phone was answered, "Hello?" I had to confirm that this was indeed Alvarez Air. They returned the following day and told me that two parts needed to be replaced and heard nothing more, so I called every two hours to get an update and they kept saying that they were on the phone with the manufacturer and that they would call me back. The owner called back and alerted me that it would take 5-7 business days to get one of the two parts. He also told me that they would only charge me $120 for the labor to perform the warranty repair. On the 6th business day, I called to get an update. Again, they stated that they would find out and get back to me. I waited three hours and called again and the receptionist handed the phone to the owner, who identified himself as Art Alvarez, and he immediately was upset. He told me that the part was in, but they couldn't come out for two more days because they were "busy with 32 service calls" and that none of these calls were "for air conditioners that were working." He yelled, "If I have to repeat myself, you can just call another company to fix it!" He then stated, "You know what? I'll mail you the $362 that you already paid and you can deal with it!" I was upset and frustrated because I do not know where this anger was coming from. I ended the call with agreeing to the date and scheduled time he proposed; however, it was unclear as to if he was going to perform the repair. My mom called the following day and the receptionist confirmed the appointment. Today was the day of the repair. After two visits, the air conditioner seems to be working; however, we were charged $300 and not the $120 that was discussed the previous week. Having been without an air conditioner the last 13 days, I was reluctant at asking any further questions. I am not sure if this company was taken over by someone else recently, but I have never experienced such poor customer service, especially from someone who identified himself as the owner on the telephone. This was an outstanding company that we did business with since the 1990s. We will no longer do business with Alvarez. In 2015 my dad bought a new air condtionr to replace one he bought from Alvarez 16 years prior. There was never a problem with the old unit or their customer service until 2018. I was told the coils had to be replaced as had the coils on almost every one of this brand they'd sold. The coils were warranteed, not the labor which was over $600. We were told the coils would take 3 to 6 weeks to arrive as they were back ordered. Winter came and went without a word about the coils. I called in April and was told they would order them and they'd be here in 3 weeks. They replaced the coils and I was told the problem was solved. A few weeks later, the fan would not shut off after the unit stopped. It was set on auto. They said someone would come that week. I called after three days and someone come the next day. He said the wiring harness was at fault and he'd fixed it. Days later we had the same problem except now it started blowing warm air. Again I had to call twice before someone came out. This time they put in coolant. A few days later, warm air again. They said the last guy put in too much coolant. A few days later, more warm air. This time they said it was a leaking valve. After several days of no ac, a guy came and spent hours installing a new valve. It was summer's end and the fan would not shut off again even with the AC off and set on auto. I called in April and the man said to shut it off at the breaker, I did. A few days later they came to fix it. He said it was fixed. The next day the fan would not shut off. I called and the man asked if the unit was running when they came. Furious, I reminded him that he had told me to turn it off at the breaker. He said someone would come that week. After spending way more than we should have, I found a new company to come out. An inspection revealed most of the soldering Alvarez had done was bad and there were leaks around the solder in many places. Worst of all, they had broken a pipe that regulates the pressure as the coolant gas turns back into a liquid. They left it broken and filled both holes with solder to plug them. Both were leaking. The new guy had no idea how the AC was working at all. He has replaced all the bad solder, reconnected the pipe, and fixed the wiring harness. We now have pictures of the mess Alvarez made and pictures of how repairs are supposed to be made. Thank you, Alvarez, for the stress of the many hot days and nights my 83 year old father suffered through because of your incompetence. read more

If you want to be charged for parts and labor that do absolutely nothing to fix your problem then I absolutely recommend using this company. They will tell you one thing and then a couple of weeks later when your AC unit is broken yet again they will basically force you into either using them for further repair service or you just lose out on your money. Their tech told us that all our AC unit needed was Freon and nothing else. 2 weeks later our AC is broken and the company tells us that it's obvious that we have a leak and that's why we needed Freon and should have fixed the leak in the first place or replaced the unit. That's fine but our problem is that they never told us there was a leak. If a tech says(and writes down) that all you need is Freon wouldn't you safely assume that all you need is Freon? We called 2 different companies out after this happened and they were very upfront about their recommendations. Why is it that Alvarez Air couldn't? They obviously have some serious communication issues. The owner says his tech told him there was a leak but apparently we were left out of this communication. Of course we would NEVER want to use this company again for any of our heating/cooling needs. The only choice we were left with was either lose out on the money we just handed over to Alvarez Air for no reason, or actually go with a reputable company with good customer service. We obviously opted for a reputable company as well as the more expensive solution which was purchasing a brand new AC unit. Had the owner been a lot nicer over the phone and not called us(in his words) "idiots", then we probably would have given them a second chance but the minute I spoke to him on the phone he was on the defensive, said that it was our fault we didn't understand the problem and that anybody would know there was a leak if Freon was missing, there is no need to verbalize or write it down. Interesting point of view considering that 2 other techs from 2 different companies were very clear in their description of the problem. read more
