They show up when they say they are, they call if they are going to be delayed or are running late, they give in-depth repair estimates and pay attention to detail. So sorry I did not write this review sooner! August 2024: After tropical storm (?Debby) caused 2 small leaks in my living room, I arranged for 3 estimates for the flat roof. The other part of the roof had been replaced by a horrific company & I was hesitant about the process. Of the 3, Alvarez was the moderate estimate. I chose Alvarez because he provided a detailed estimate and pictures of the area. The work started as promised, finished in an excellent time frame, clean up was complete and pictures of the completed roof provided. I also appreciate family owned & operated businesses. When the roof was completed a family member walked the perimeter with me to discuss any concerns. I had none.Then came the hurricanes ! Peace of mind is priceless - no leaks! Finally, last week I had a question about random pieces of wood in my yard and something looked not quite right on the roof. We hired Alvarez Home Repairs to replace our roof in 2019, shortly after moving in. They did a great job from beginning to end, and we were very happy with the work. I thought I wrote a review, but doesn't look like it. We noticed a water stain on the ceiling in one of our rooms, and called asking for a quick check up. Jay (Jesnie) came today, and looked around, found a tiny leak and fixed it. While he was up on the roof, he did an overall check as well. My roof has been in dire need to be redone. My main goal was to have the work done right by professionals who knew what they were doing and weren't going to cut corners. Heard about Alvarez reputation-after speaking to Omar I was very confident that these were the folks I wanted to take care of this project. With over 25 years of construction management experience I was committed to find a quality contractor to replace my Family's roof. I saw Alvarez Home Repairs installing a roof and watched their progress. Very efficient, and I could tell they cared. I requested a proposal, and they generated the proposal using online measurement. The quote was competitive however the quote included full peel & stick secondary water barrier. A far better system, while comparable in price to others without. When we got close to install, communication was very good to update on schedule. The date was confirmed and held. 9 guys showed up for day 1. Great crew of guys. They worked great together. Tear-off was well managed, with one guy on the ground, continually cleaning debris the whole day. Deck repairs were done within the contract allowance for wood replacement. The deck was re-nailed with ring shank nails and fully covered with peel & stick membrane and rolled right into shingles with over half done on day 1. This team has clearly worked a lot together. Day 2 was 5 guys, which was appropriate for the balance, which included the more detailed areas. The owner Otniel was on site both mornings and evenings with his guys and made sure I was happy. He addressed problem areas original to the house including installing detailed flashing at 2 blind valley conditions and using color coordinated modified bitumen sheet roofing. He also relocated a vent that the builder installed in the valley. This is the type of details that few address properly and all of this was taken as part of the contracted amount. Finally, I just had a wind mitigation credit inspection that received credit for secondary water barrier, plywood deck nailing pattern, and shingle nailing pattern. This will save hundreds every year on insurance. This Family operation is the real deal. They work to a higher ethic because they care. They are top notch roofers and I'm thankful I found them. The girl that answered said they don't do any interior work OR exterior work except on the roof. This is how Alvarez Roofing "finished" the new roof. They have yet to return my calls or emails after several days as to an explanation why they believe this is acceptable. They left cable and phone wires dangling from the roof, unfinished wood panels along the trim and left my satalite dish thrown against my fence! The new roof looks ten times worse than the old one! I ask your forgiveness in advance for the length of this review. I knew my roof on the Florida room needed to be redone. No leaks yet but I believe in preventative measures and I work 3 jobs so I was in a good financial position at the moment to pay for it. After reading reviews, I called Alvarez. I made an appointment for Omar to come out and check out the roof. It was immediate evident that Omar really knew his stuff and I trusted him. He took his time explaining things to me in detail, answered questions as appropriate and even provided some insight into the origins of the company, etc. He and I had a verbal understanding of the price. When I got the written estimate, it was $200 more than quoted and I was ticked but I understood that the price was for the permits. I got over that hiccup relatively quickly. I took time off my second job to drive to the company to get my signature notarized. I still do not grasp that step. Why I couldn't get the notarization done at work, fax in a facsimile and mail the original with delivery confirmation is beyond me but hey, I missed work and did it. I also requested that cleaning gutters be added to the contract because that is what Omar and I agreed upon verbally. This was added. The contract was in pretty simple language that even I could understand. At this point I'll take a break in the story to tell you about the only other roofing experience I've had and that was about 10 years ago in Dayton, Ohio. The workers showed up before I left for work, spoke little English and at night, the crew was (I kid you not) on their hands and knees crawling around with magnets cleaning up the debris. The ground, ladies and gents, was spotless. I had nothing but praise to tell their supervisor the next day. Those guys were great. Returning to the present, I assumed that the experience in Dayton, Ohio would be duplicated. So price and gutter work aside, a date is set and on that fateful morning, I take my dogs to my ex-husband's to babysit while the roofing on the Florida room is done. A cursory glance when I get home from job 1 to get ready to go to work at job 2 and I know they have been at the house and gone because the debris from the gutters is laying on the ground. I didn't mind this originally because I was going to burn it anyway. I go to Job 2 and I just can't stop the nagging feeling that the contract that I took time off work for to drive to their office because they just had to have the contract notarized did say that the area would be cleaned up. Again, I'm thinking it's just debris that I can burn so why this feeling? The following day in between jobs, I take a closer peek and find pieces of roofing, two nails, bits and pieces mirrored glass, I guess for lack of better words. I immediately get angry. The price and the wording was one thing but I knew there was no way I could have misunderstood what was clearly written in that notarized contract. The mess should have been cleaned up. I emailed the company and when I say that the owner wrote me back in less than 30 minutes time, I am seriously telling you the truth. I picked up on what Omar had told me on that first day.. that the owner really does care about this company of his. He referred to the owner as 'El Maestro'. It was obvious that this company is his pride and job. He offered a discount which really wasn't what I was looking for. I just wanted the job done and if the guys left a mess on the ground, what does that say about the job they performed on the roof? All I wanted was the owner to come out and look for himself. Yes, the work is guaranteed for seven years but I didn't care... I wanted the 'El Maestro's' opinion. He came out, checked out the work and assured me that the job was right. He was quite apologetic. I'm pretty confident that his workers thought I wouldn't say anything: they took a chance and lost. I'm 100% confident this isn't the first time they have pulled this stunt. The tough thing about having your own company is that you have to more or less babysit your workers because let's face it... those workers don't have the devotion to work that YOU do. I would gladly go back to this company because of how the owner treated me. He could have blown me off but it was obvious that he cared about my opinion. I think a periodic, surprise visit from the owner during the actual roofing process would cure the lack of cleaning up exhibited by the workers. And because of the owner's pride, I give this company five stars. read more

we got a few quotes via Angie's list, google plus, yahoo, and various online places. Alvarez Home Repairs was about the middle and the quotes were fairly similar. However, like other reviews said, they did not nickel and dime over things like replacing plywood sheets. Additionally, they were exceptionally good at returning my messages for an estimate. This was probably the deciding factor for them to get the job. It was quick and looks amazing. They use some of the best shingles Certainteed and the architectural ones were only a small amount more. They also followed up quickly after the city inspector asked to fix a couple areas after Hurricane Irma. The site was cleaned up very well. Made the 20+ yo house look great! I had requested 5 different estimates on my shingle roof and flat roof. Omar came out for an estimate and reviewed the job. I received a detailed e mail estimate the next morning. I had many questions regarding skylight replacements as I have 3. Omar gave me the owner Otneil's phone number directly as he honestly told me he didn't know the answers. Otneil spent over an hour on the phone with me on a Saturday explaining my options and the complete job and his specific process. He uses peel and stick roofing under his shingles and it's standard in all of his roofs. He gave me the velux skylight state wide representatives phone number to make sure I got the answers and information on the hurricane low e with built in solar blackout shades my wife researched and wanted. I called him and he told me exactly what to order. After 2 more calls to him with questions I was never pressured or up sold on any anything. Otneil ordered exactly what I needed from the manufacturer. I also went with solar roof attic fans after discussing my options with him. I contracted with his company after we decided what color they got started and the complete job went perfect. His employees came out and worked hard all day in the summer. They worked almost till dark and came out the following morning to finish up. They cleaned up perfectly and protected my shrubs and plants. I have dogs so I was concerned with nails and debris. When they left the place was spotless. Alvarez is my new roofer and I have now recommend his company to my friends and my family. He wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive but right n the middle. After my job was complete weeks later my mom called him for an estimate and he went out personally to her house to give her an estimate. While there he patched 2 little leaks in her roof from nails and told her she didn't need a new roof for a while. No charge at all. Who does that now a days. I couldn't even get some companies to return my calls for an estimate. I don't do a lot of recommendations but they have earned a customer in me for life.
