My favorite taco truck in West San Jose is hands down Tacos Santiaguito…read more I have been sending taco fiends here for about a decade now. Located right off of N Saratoga ave, between hwy280 and Stevens Creek blvd, on the east aide of the street. You will find this gem in the evenings. This place has all the meats that a down foo was raised on, but my go to is always the Al Pastor! Perfectly marinated, huge portions, and even with the pineapple and sautéed onions deliver an amazing plate experience. Now what puts these guys a league above! You get to put your own choice of up to 3 different salsa's. Green and flavorful, orange habanero heat, or spicy red pepper goodness. Ample extras of radish, jalapeño, or onions and habanero slices for the folks who just have guts of steel. This place has such a following, there have been times when I was 10 people deep waiting in line to order. They are quick, yet always tasty. Give your tastebuds a treat!

It turns out that's just a tactic to ambush you at checkout. I ended up paying an astronomical $27.50 for just one burrito and a single quesadilla. For that price, you would expect a feast, but the portions were incredibly small. The food itself was completely unappetizing, very little meat, and poor quality. To make matters worse, the customer service was downright miserable. The person taking the order acted like my business was a massive inconvenience to their day. On top of charging premium restaurant prices, they don't even provide a single table or chair. You are forced to stand on the pavement just to eat your overpriced, bite-sized meal. Save your hard-earned money and go somewhere else that actually values its customers and serves decent food.

The best of the bunch was the dahi batata puri, but it still didn't quite hit the spot. It was definitely on the sweeter side and I felt like the dahi/yogurt wasn't as creamy as I prefer. The chinese bhel was okay, but didn't have much flavor. Lastly the ragda pattice had so much potential. The flavor was there, but it was insanely spicy- even as someone with a med/high spice tolerance. You could feel the burn traveling down to your stomach. All of us found it unbearable and worse of all felt the affects for a day after. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes but after the all the discomfort of the meal- I don't feel inclined to return.

Yesterday, I ordered a Vada Pav, Shalimar Egg Mughlai (on their recommendation from their list of egg dishes), and a Veg Frankie -- and honestly, none of it lived up to the hype(5 stars currently) or price point. Vada Pav: It was okay. The "mirchi" served alongside was literally a raw Thai green chili. Really? At least pan-fry it with some salt and oil to enhance the flavor. For over $10 with taxes, this was already pricier than better Vada Pavs you can get at places like Elco Drive, and yet it offered nothing exceptional. Frankie: This one made me genuinely angry. It was a soggy maida roll stuffed with the same aloo masala from the Vada Pav, plus a few sad shreds of cabbage. That's it. And they had the audacity to charge $12 for it. ($1.50 for cheese, lol I am glad we didn't add)This isn't a Frankie -- it's a lazy repackaged Vada Pav with no flavor or creativity. They threw in some pickled jalapeños on the side, which only added confusion. If you're running a fusion menu(well partially), at least mention it upfront instead of misleading customers. Egg Shalimar Mughlai: At $13, it was passable but still not impressive. The bun on the side was not toasted or anything. Better than the Frankie, but nothing I'd recommend or return for. I was so excited for trying this place but, overall, this place is overpriced, underwhelming, and frankly disappointing. If your Vada Pav and Frankie are practically identical, maybe inform customers before they order both. I wouldn't recommend Maya Kitchen -- save your time, appetite and money and go somewhere else. Thank me later.

The menu offering is limited but has enough variety to please most palates including kids as they do offer hot chocolate. The lavender latte was delicious. The coffee beans had a deep flavor reminiscent of Vietnamese coffee. The lavender flavor was unlike any other. It didn't have that artificial syrup taste. It wasn't overly florally, instead it just enhances the coffee without overpowering. Even more so, the vanilla latte was even better because that Madagascar bean flavor really shines through. I recommend getting this one if you're unsure what to order. We got to chit chat with the owner and he makes all the syrups from scratch. Both the lavender and vanilla bean syrup are homemade which is why you can really taste and appreciate the difference. The owner was very personable, open to criticism and all around a pleasant person. He seemed very knowledgable about coffee and clearly passionate about what he does. One thing I really appreciated was the temperature of the coffee. The lattes were served nice and hot. They prioritize the coffee experience rather than latte art which I appreciated. Check them out at their next pop up!

As I watched my sandwich set to the right of the sandwich line person, I knew it was mine, so I leaned in to ask him. He then leaned toward the owner and asked him if the sandwich was, in fact, mine. That's when the owner looked at me and, in the most demeaning and aggressive way, loudly exclaimed, "Oh yeah, you ordered the sandwich and walked away, didn't ya!?" Even when I was originally ordering the sandwich, I was clear, concise, and kind, and could tell he was on a short fuse. I turned around to confront him and let him know I felt like he was being a jerk by speaking to me that way, to which he returned, "Oh yeah? What did I say?" and then told me, "Don't come back." I left sad and angry because it was so uncalled for and confusing. I am shocked that this happened, and I want to share my experience. In the end, this review isn't meant to harm the business or its owner, but rather to hold him to a higher standard. That or karma will.

Final Thoughts: 4.50/5…read more Truly the cutest little matcha truck. It's a tiny little green one that sits in front of the Saratoga Plaza. My friend introduced this shop to me and I've been wanting to try them for a while now, but the timing never worked out. We were finally able to go and see how it was. Looking at reviews alone, their color of matcha looked really good, which was why I wanted to go even more. Overall, will be a solid 5 star for me. Drinks: Usucha: 4.5/5 This is the matcha americano. Essentially what this is is just water and matcha. Typically this is something that I would make for work or just on a regular basis. I like tasting the strong flavor of matcha and this drink is just on the lighter side for me given that there's no milk included. They do sell their own matchas online, so I did want to try a drink that could really have that matcha shine. This drink had a really nice deep flavor. Their drinks are very concentrated, which is something I like. Of note, my friend did mention that they do seem to lean more on having a lot of ice. This is a hit or miss for some people. I personally don't mind the ice, however, the drink itself needs to be already concentrated. This means when the ice melts, it'll be a good balance. If it is already watered down *and* there's a lot of ice, that's when Ill have a problem. This is not the case here though because they use a nice quality and brand of matcha and they provide enough of it in the drink itself. Matcha Matcha: 4.5/5 This was my friend's drink and I tried it for review purposes. It is the matcha latte with matcha cream top. Their version of a double matcha it seems. Their cream alone tastes amazing. Love the flavor of the matcha. The base of their matcha is also really good. Nice balance of nuttiness, umami, and sweetness. I really like their ratio of matcha, to milk, to sweetener. Matcha was super creamy smooth, which I also really enjoyed. Menu: Small Menu Their menu is quite small. I'm not sure if they have plans to expand the menu, but with their current menu, there are 6 items under their lattes, 2 items under non-lattes, and 2 drinks on the kids menu for the little ones or for anyone that does not want the caffeinated drinks. They seem to make these items well. Honestly, if I had it my way, I would definitely order the menu just to make and try the flight of them. Note: Capping When your name is called, they put out the drinks on the tray, but the drinks are not capped. You cap them yourself. Caution to carefully cap it and properly snap on the lid, so it doesn't spill. --------- Quality: Delightful I really like the matcha powder that they're using. Highly likely that it is the one on their website, so I will be buying them sometime when I have depleted my current tins. The color is nice, bright, and rich. The flavor is nicely balanced. Not too umami, there's a slight nuttiness and sweetness, just how I like it. Price: Average Your average matcha cup is around $7-8 these days +/-1 for the additional toppings and substitutes. Matcha drinks were all $8 and then $3 for the kiddos drinks. Quite the appropriate price for these drinks these days. Service: Very nice They were super nice even with the small interactions. Perhaps others would have a shorter interaction because it's simply paying and then getting the drink and going. I stood there for a second for my Yelp picture and then proceeded to cap the cup. I was struggling to put it on (embarrassing) and the worker saw. He then helped me to cap my cups so I don't spill them. Very nice. Waiting time: Depends Our timeline is as stated below: 1134 Arrival 1217 Front of the line 1219 Ordered 1221 Received drinks For a Saturday afternoon, the wait time was around 40-50 minutes? Their process does take a while because they finish with one customer at a time. This means they take your order, make it, and then move onto the next customer versus one person taking multiple orders and then having people in the back work to make the drinks and finish the order. This process probably helps them manage mixing up orders within that confined space. I like that this process allows us that time to take pictures of the drinks before capping them and taking them away. Ambiance: Outdoor Vibes It was a nice sunny day outside and I probably needed the vitamin D. Note to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and maybe an umbrella if you need. I do kind of like the outdoors vibes like this. Nice time to talk, hang out outside, and stand underneath the sun while waiting for your nice cup of matcha. Location/Parking: Street Parking This truck is parked on the street right in front of Saratoga Plaza, so my thinking is either street parking or parking inside the plaza area. Of note, coming out of the plaza may be a little challenge because of your blind spot coming out on the left. The truck is right there are there are cars parked along the side, so you will have to carefully inch out before proceeding.

We visited on a Saturday around lunchtime and was met with a long line. Fortunately, the line moves fairly quickly and we probably only stood for about 15 minutes tops. Note - it's super hot over the summer, and there's not a ton of shade either! I ordered the strawberry matcha while my BF had the hojicha. I think I was expecting the matcha quality to be a bit more "intense" -- I think the cream top ended up taking over the flavor and the drink felt more milky than matcha-y lol. The hojicha on the other hand had a ton of depth; it was rich but texture-wise, it tasted a little too thick for my liking. Everything is whisked by hand which I appreciated (and they also sell their tins!). It looks like they're planning on opening a storefront in the same area where their trailer is. I'd encourage looking at their IG for their current trailer hours though!

They take card, but there's an up-charge for it. The order: Super Burrito (asada) $12: I'm not playing on the price, check the photos. Delicious burrito that was a nice size and excellent price point. The tortilla tasted so nicely toasted and had a crisp at the edges. Along with your choice of meat, the burrito has Spanish rice, avocado, onions, salsa, beans. What else do you need? The length was almost my entire forearm, might have been actually. I was also given two sauces: a cilantro green sauce and (chipotle maybe) a red sauce. I did not receive the orange sauce mentioned in other reviews. Remember to request what you'd like. The second time I went, they gave me red sauce and orange sauce. Minus 1 star because of slightly inconsistent quality. When I went the second time, the fillings were still great, but ratio was different than the first time. It made the burrito taste different, no crispiness. Still good, but seemed more like a mid burrito I wouldn't have been raving about. BUT I did go right before closing compared to right after opening, which I can understand could make a difference.
