I've been here about 3 times in the past two weeks and I would say it's top 3 donut places in Tucson. Absolutely delicious. I've tried the vanilla frosted, chocolate cake, apple filled, the breakfast bun and breakfast sandwich, fried chicken. All delicious. The bun is better than the sandwich imo. What makes it stand out as they have all sorts of other options available for breakfast such as bacon, egg, stuffed pastries, hotdog wrapped in pastry dough, jalapeño poppers, ham and cheese croissant sandwiches,etc. This is a very convenient location and they have a drive-through window available. If you are going to Reid park Zoo, and are looking for a donut shop, you can get something to eat and something to drink very easily by just pulling up and ordering, and then getting back on Alvernon. If you are central and headed to the freeway on South on Alvernon, this spot if just south of Broadway. The staff are patient. even when it's busy inside, they are friendly and don not seem rushed. This small shop is local family owned and run. I've never had a donut here that was stale or soggy. The crispy broaster chicken was perfect. Crispy and peppery skin with a moist and tender middle. Solid apple fritter, good old fashioned maple glazed & interesting glazed blueberry cake donut. I should've tried the crunchy blueberry cake donut, but 3 was my limit for today. Definitely the best donuts I've had in Tucson, friendly service, greeted me when I came in & said have a nice day when I left. Chatted with some friendly older customers who were talking politics & the weaponization of the govt against its citizens while opening the borders for people to illegally enter the country without repercussions. The coffee was nothing to write home about, but that's not why you come here anyways, not a bad cup though. Next time I'll try their maple bacon log donut. It was too early to get fried chicken, but was able to pick up a variety of donuts for my co-workers. I was very appreciative of the large and smaller sized versions of apple fritters and cinnamon roll. Besides those, I had bought some old fashions, jelly filled glaze, twists, and bacon maple bars. All of it was great. All were very soft, fresh, and not overly sweet. Sometimes, a lower quality donut will leave your mouth feeling greasy or leaves an odd feeling/taste and these didn't do that. Their yeast and cake donuts are really good and I like them a lot better than the competition in this area. Alvernon's isn't too close to my office and far away from home, but I am going to go back to try the fried chicken and any other savory items. read more

A very sweet (pun intended), family-owned donut shop in midtown Tucson. A great selection of fresh donuts (get there early for a larger selection of donuts), and the owners are super friendly. The yeast donuts are so soft! So soft that I was almost afraid of injuring the poor thing when I picked it up. And the shape of the filled donut is a little flatter and wider than what you might see other places. This means that the filling is spread across a wider area of the donut. And the fillings are great! And the frostings have specks of real fruit. These donuts just melt in your mouth. The apple fritters are the best I have found in Tucson. Fried to perfection but not greasy, fully flavorful. The bacon maple is just the right touch of salty and sweet on a soft delicious donut. Saturday was my sister in law and brother in law's wedding reception and instead of a traditional wedding cake they wanted donuts as their dessert. Such a great choice and it made it so easy for the guest to grab and enjoy with not having to wait or have it cut. The bride and groom were super happy and excited. Hands down the best donuts I have ever had in my life. They are so soft and airy, you don't even realize you are eating something that is deep fried. I am a big fan of the donut holes, but I also enjoy their cream filled donuts, the cinnamon sugar twist, and their cake donuts. Surprisingly enough, their fried chicken is also bomb. This is now officially my go-to donut shop. This is a small building right off of Alvernon with a big red sign. They have a drive through around the back of the lot if you prefer not to go inside. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the counter offered me free donut holes as samples. They were fresh, soft, perfectly sweet (not too much but well coated). After taking a few minutes to admire the display, I decided to go with a chocolate glazed donut and a large coffee. The whole order was a little less than $4, which may be slightly expensive for a donut but well worth it. Imagine a soft, pillowy, yeasty bite. Gently crusted and decadent chocolate glaze. The dough wasn't greasy and the donut was fairly large. What a lovely breakfast. They also make HUGE made-to-order donuts for special occasions. Just call a day in advance or try to catch them very, very early in the morning to place an order. I already know I'll be back for one on my birthday. read more
