Cafe Alyce is phenomenal! I love their fresh ingredients and cozy comfortable atmosphere! It has a beautiful view of the city skyline and The Owner & Staff is super sweet! If you want to experience kindness & great quality food, check it out!

Oh, I like this Wonderland. I mean, they show Turner Classic Movies on one wall. Did you know Ava Gardner was in a King Arthur movie? I didn't. That is just awesome knowledge. Also, the food is American deliciousness. The Hash Brown Fries were perfectly thick slabs of crispy starchiness. The Blackened Catfish was big and tender, like a Luther Vandross ballad. Mmmm, ballad seasoning. Served with a side of hearty grits. As hearty as being serenaded by Luther Vandross. Definitely worth a return visit.

House-Made Hash Browns

My friend and I went during lunchtime it was steady but not too busy for a holiday weekend. Our server gave us just enough attention without being overbearing. The ambiance is laid back, causal. The food was good. My friend really enjoyed the hash browns. My house salad with shrimp was, you know, a salad you can't really mess that up. The shrimp however were jumbo and cooked perfectly. I did have the homemade biscuit (not pictured) on the side which was good. The menu is limiting for me because of my dietary restrictions of no pork, beef or dark meat. Because of this, their options are limited for me but I would definitely recommend to others.

NJ Farmers

Food was bland. Like, no salt bland. Not to mention both the indoor and outdoor dining environment can only be described as hostile. We got an NJ Farmer ($24) with eggs, sausage and hashbrown. The hashbrown tasted like boiled potatos, there was not even a hint of flavor or salt. My boyfriend had to add a whole bottle of green hot sauce and ketchup to compensate for the lack of flavor. The Shakshuka ($21) with sourdough was edible because it at least had some spices to it. But half the Shakshuka was filled with Grit and also came with a side of Grit that tasted like bland congee that had been left out overnight. We were first seated at the counter right next to the kitchen, but I could not stand the smell of oil and smoke. Also, the lack of ventilation and aircon was suffocating. We requested to move to a different table and were seated outdoors, but we were instead baked outdoors by the blinding sun. Our table had no umbrella and we sat in the 90 degree heat and sun for 30 mins eating our bland hashbrowns and grit. The only decent thing about the restaurant was the server. He was kind enough to check up on us and apologized for the seating environment and the food. I don't get why it got such high praise from ratings and reviews.

Went with my family of 4 for brunch after a walk in Central Park!Son & daughter are teenagers & both loved it! Pros : Good food large portions & all food freshly made! Slow service when busy but sitting outside on a nice day it was great not to be rushed! Servers all very friendly Owner also friendly and working to help out! Place inside and out is Very clean Side note: they Have a nice side coffee/beer bar next door, so was able to have mimosa and hot chocolates while I wait to be seated! Cons Fried Chicken sandwich a bit dry Needs more mayo or dressing Chicken sandwich very large can feed 2 All Items ordered didn't have any salt . Need salt & ketchup on tables. Ketchup is house made. Poached egg overcooked Pls note these con comments are from husband and kids. I personally enjoyed everything! Had the rest of my sandwich for dinner! lol

4.5 stars Alyce had been on my list for quite some time, but I am not typically a big brunch person, and I knew that that was their specialty. However, we recently had a free afternoon and were willing to take a trip to have a meal, so I decided to find a Jersey City spot in which to dine. I remembered the cafe and decided to make a reservation. Despite having several open tables online, the place was completely packed when we arrived. The friendly host offered us the options of waiting for a table, grabbing seats at the lunch counter, or sitting in their beer and coffeeshop next door. We decided to grab seats at the counter, though, thankfully, a table opened up before we even placed our order. It was just very hot at the counter, since it was an open kitchen; the table was much more comfortable. I had not known what to expect from the restaurant, besides the good food that I had seen referenced in the reviews. Plus, when we walked into the place, it looked like a random, "greasy-spoon" diner, but it wound up being the complete opposite! The food and ingredients were all top-notch, and the service was very amiable. Initially, I was going to order a coffee instead of a cocktail, but the drinks were intriguing, and I was not sure when I would make the trip out there again, so I indulged with a Mezcal Mary, a tequila and mezcal-infused bloody Mary using house-made mix. It was spicy, zesty, smoky, and certainly boozy! My companion's cocktail was similarly potent. For food, we shared a homemade Buttermilk Biscuit, and I ordered the Yuppie Toast with salmon for my main dish. The fluffy, doughy biscuit was served with butter and a berry jam. The buttermilk pastry was delicious, but the jam was a tad watery. My appropriately-named "Yuppie Toast" was essentially avocado toast on nutty, toasted nine-grain bread. The ripe, green spread was very fresh and flavorful. I had asked to replace the poached eggs with well-done scrambled egg whites, and the kitchen graciously indulged my desire, providing a generous portion of the requested eggs. The already hefty and customized toast slice might have been the reason that the kitchen had forgotten to include the requested salmon on it. I made one of the food runners aware, and he brought over a side plate of the house-cured salmon, which was excellent! It was tender, tasty, and not overly salted, as was usually the case with lox. My Yuppie plate also included a small mixed greens salad with grape tomatoes, raw red onion, and a light vinaigrette, as well as a tiny bowl of fruit salad. It was a filling and complete dish. My companion enjoyed his burger, which contained a thick patty on a sweet bakery roll. It came with the restaurant's own potato chips, which were a little greasy, but delicious. Alyce might not have looked like anything fancy, but their elevated brunch options told a deeper story. We were very impressed with the place!

On Friday evening, my friend Luis and I went to Alyce's at 641 Montgomery Street in Jersey City. We had such an excellent experience there. The meals we had--salmon, the blue plate chicken special and cheese tidbits as an appetizer and the vanilla ice cream and brownie dessert were all amazing. The server Anass was personable and attentive and kudos as well to chef Tory and Raul. We are definitely coming back real soon.

I have delayed trying Café Alyce because I could just tell it wasn't my cup of tea, but after recently ordering delivery and enjoying the food, I decided to try it out in person, so both of my experiences with Café Alyce were for breakfast. The biggest pro-tip I can give for this place is to make a reservation in advance, because without a reservation you have the choice of two tables in between the front door (cold) and the kitchen door (busy). This alone is probably too big a barrier of entry for me to return. The other barrier would be the price, by my estimation Café Alyce is a third more expensive then comparable restaurants (minus a star for this review). Service was friendly but they are very busy so I could not say its was attentive. Negative points out of the way, I did really like my food. I had the NJ Farmers ($24, 3 eggs, toast, hash brown, mushrooms, grits) and loved the hash brown, grits, and mushrooms. I also really liked how every thing is customizable if you are ordering takeout. If prices were lower this would be a 4 star review.

Excited to try this place but was disappointed in the food and service. The place was not busy but we were struggling to catch the worker's attention. No water refills despite them seeing it empty, the grits were watery, avocado toast flavorless, and my friend's bread was moldy, but they claimed it was from the pan and they'd get her a new one. Waited like 20 minutes and her new bread was no where to be seen, despite the worker walking around like nothing happened. It was clearly mold, and not from the pan due to the greenish color. But we would've been okay if they just got the new bread but they just ignored us. They were only quick when it came to the check. My friends and I are very polite and try to be nice to the workers so we try not to ask for much but the service just made it very difficult.

20 oz Ribeye steak

Great food and service . We ordered the ribeye steak and the French onion cheesesteak. Our server checked in on us regularly, and provided everything we had requested. We chose hash brown fries as sides to our order and were very good and different from other fries at restaurants.: They're menu is innovative and has a variety of options. Great local restaurant to frequent if you live in Jersey City.

Tried this popular brunch spot recently. Everything was okay, but nothing really stood out flavor-wise. Prices were on the higher side considering the food was just average. You also have to wait for a table, which adds to the overall cost in time. The open kitchen made the whole place smell like grease -- not ideal.

Sometimes it's hard to find a seat because it gets crowded, but that's just me, because you can meet new people or run into old friends.

I have been frequenting this place for years, & the food & service is good, but the amount of…read morepeople that sit at tables for an extended amount of time has gotten completely out of control. Monticello Ave has turned into a ghost town in regard to food choices. Customers are buying one coffee here & taking up a table for four using their laptops for hours on end working. I love their whitefish salad & have had to walk out several times before ordering because there is literally not one seat available on 2 floors!! I spend an average of $30 every time I go in, & someone who purchased a tea 3 hours ago is taking up 4 seats. What caused me to write this review today was the actual "Cuddle Puddle" that was taking place on the couch this afternoon right in front of the register. Three people with no food or drinks were snuggling & playing on their phones without one crumb of food or even an empty drink cup in front of them. There was also a woman holding up a table for 4 while going outside to take business calls on her phone. Is this WeWork or a coffeeshop? Put a time limit on the tables, & no one should be treating this place like their parents living room to take a nap in the free air conditioning. Oh & to the staff member that called me "Sir" today- I am a woman. This whole experience was so uncomfortable I will get my whitefish from Wonder Bagel moving forward.
