Came here for a weekend brunch meal. We tried their city location in the past which was pretty good and wanted to give this spot a shot. Service was generally speaking friendly though the day we went was super busy as there was a running race and it was super packed so the folks working definitely seemed a touch flustered but kudos to them for handling the crowd well. We got the bulgogi sandwich and the tuna sandwich both of which were good though bulgogi would be the one i choose over the other. Nice flavors though and the coffee we got was nice. I've been to Semicolon's Midtown East location for coffee before, but had been wanting to try their loosely Korean-inspired brioche sandwiches for quite some time. I finally had the occasion to at their Jersey City outpost, which is much brighter and more inviting. The S.O.S. sandwich isn't overtly Korean, other than for the inclusion of corn, which you wouldn't typically see in an American egg sandwich. Great Korean-style sandwiches at a casual coffee shop. The second floor doubles as a local store selling knickknacks and plants - the hanging pots that line the window are really cute. Whenever I have extra time before catching a lightrail or ferry, I'll stop by for a coffee. The sandwiches are made-to-order, so usually there is a 20 minute wait - so relax and take a break! I enjoy the Chicken - big chunks of tender chicken, a scrambled egg, and spicy mayo... it's sort of everything I love in a toasty sandwich. The coffees are also pretty reasonable. I came to Semicolon Cafe after consulting a local who has lived in the area for a long time. She said it was one of her favorite cafes in JC so I'm so glad I listened to her. It's now one of my favorites in the area as well. The inside is very cutely decorated with plants and they have free wifi. The downstairs section is meant for those working and the upstairs is a no laptop zone. I'm big on strawberry matchas and was so excited to see that Semicolon had one on the menu. I loved the cute twist with the edible strawberry straw and strawberry popcorn. Also, the egg and lox sandwich was incredible! I had zero expectations on the food here and had just grabbed it when I saw it on the menu as a last minute decision. It was absolutely mind blowing and honestly, I would come back here just to eat their sandwiches. Make sure you try it. Additionally, the service here is incredible. 20 mins after ordering, I realized I forgot to tell the staff to make my drink dairy free. I ran over to the counter and saw my drink was already made. I explained the situation to them and was even ready to pay for another drink, and they just made me another one with almond milk on the spot. Tons of greenery and you can buy some plants. Upstairs has this ghibli esque tight space that is just really cute and it's filled with a TON of tiny knick knacks. Only issue I have read about is that it gets packed sometimes. When I heard about this sandwich place opening I was pretty excited - I had the chance of trying fluffy Korean sandwiches in Amsterdam called CHUN so I was hoping for a similar experience. This is one of my new favorite places ever since moving into Jersey City. I love Korean inspired toast sandwiches with the fluffy bread, eggs, and mayo sauces and Semicolon helped bring that close to me! The sandwiches are without fail always delicious, and I like to order the iced matcha, iced dirty matcha, and sometimes an iced oatmilk latte with simple syrup and all 3 drinks are very yummy from here. Their kitchen is only open until 4pm so keep that in mind if you want to visit for the sandwiches. Otherwise, you can always visit for the drinks, and for the bingsu desserts or pastries any other time. They have special ade drinks as well which are very refreshing during the summer. Service is very friendly but can be a bit slow at times when there are lots of people ordering sandwiches. The interior is very cute, with some seating on the first floor, and a few tables on the second floor where a plant shop resides. There are 2 or 3 outlets on the first floor you could use to plug in your laptop or devices as well. I love to stop here for lunch or a drink, and then take a walk along the Exchange Place waterfront. Definitely a place to hit up regularly if you're in the area! read more

They have a variety of pastries, too, if you feelin' sweet. Came here on a Sunday morning and yes, the rain was pouring. It was pretty busy here and the vibe was chill. Upon entering you'll notice all the greenery displayed throughout the shop. Plants...plants everywhere. Seating for the most part is limited. They do have an upstairs but it was closed off at the time I went. I had to wait for a few minutes until a spot opened up. I sat next to the window where it's a long table with stools and plants hanging up above. I ordered the bulgogi sandwich, recommended by the employee guy and an iced matcha latte. My drink came out in a timely manner and the sandwich took a bit longer for it to be ready. You'll have to wait at the pick up corner on the side next to the bathroom. My sammich was nicely presented in their special semicolon paper box on a wooden tray. The sandwich contained folded eggs with corn, crunchy water aka lettuce, tomatoes and their sweet bulgogz. It was a perfect breakfast sandwich and quite a unique one. The toasted brioche bread was soft and buttery with their umami sawwce. I like how the paper box kept all the contains together. I hate when I'm eating a sandwich and things start to fall out. The iced matcha was lightly sweetened and had good matcha flavaflav. The sandwich was $11+ and the matcha was $5+ and tip. So it was a bit expensive for just two items. I wanted to try their pastries but that would've been an addtional $4+. Overall, I enjoyed my sandwich and drink and the employees were nice. However, some tables needed some wiping and there's not too much seating. I liked the relax vibe and the interior of the place. It would seem like a good place to chat with friends and study. Drinks and sandwiches are priced a bit high imo, $9 and up, but I guess that's reasonable for the area. If I come across another Semicolon I'll be sure to check them out. A beautiful spot, lots of plants everywhere because I believe it doubles as a plant nursery. I had the pistachio latte which was a seasonal item and it was a little weird. It kind of tasted like I was drinking a sauce? But I guess it is pistachio with frothy milk so I got what I asked for. I also had a lavender macaroon which was spectacular. The macaroons are a great size but my complaint there is that there are so many and the workers don't know and can't tell you all of the flavors. You're kind of just guessing and that feels unnecessary. Lastly, I don't believe there is really any dedicated parking which is frustrating. This is a Jersey City problem overall but still, they may be limiting themselves to servicing whoever lives in the area because it was a hassle that I'm not sure I would put myself through again. read more

The bulgogi breakfast sandwich is one of the most interesting breakfast sandwiches I have ever had, mainly because I have never had bulgogi for breakfast before! I can't decide which component I liked the best: the sweet bulgogi, the soft eggs, the buttery brioche bread, or the umami sauce. The packaging is very thoughtful: the outer box protects the sandwich from getting smushed, with a small paper that pulls out the sandwich as you eat. The Tiramisu Latte really does taste like tiramisu. Right now, they also have a Lady Matcha Latte, which is strawberry milk with matcha. I have tried both drinks and liked both. read more

Came down for brunch and ordered the ham sandwich. The estimated wait for the sandwich was 40 minutes, which is honestly way too long for a cafe. The cafe itself is cute with an upstairs seating area decorated with leafy plants. They also do allow pets but only in the downstairs dining area! The sandwich itself was actually quite good with the savory ham and egg filling complemented by the fluffy brioche bed and tangy gochujang sauce. I've been eyeing this place for a while and finally remembered to check it out. I got an iced tiramisu latte and my bf had an iced chai. We also got a BELT sandwich, chicken sandwich and matcha shaved iced. The sandwiches would take about 30 minutes so we started with the lattes and shaved ice. Both drinks really good but u really enjoyed mine. The shaved iced was good but didn't have a strong matcha flavor. More matcha would've made it even better. After our sandwiches were ready we ate them by the waterfront. Both sandwiches were really good and surprisingly filling. The staff is very nice. There's a decent amount of seating downstairs, some upstairs and some outside. Semicolon Cafe is slightly on the pricier side but we'll worth the pricing. Yum! I just said to my husband the other day that I haven't been wowed by a restaurant in a while. Not true any longer. I had the chicken breakfast sandwich and my husband had the bulgogi. Located 2 blocks away from the Exchange place HBLR station, this local Asian coffee shop close to the riverfront is a vibrant place to spend weekend mornings! I went for their signature Tiramisu latte, chose the iced one whereas you also have an option to go for the hot one. The Tiramisu latte felt out of this world, as it had the right amount of oat milk, coffee powder and I guess a bit of vanilla ice cream while topped with a wafer stick which I mistook for cinnamon stick! Their sandwiches are a must try too as they make it fresh with the bread baked in-house, that's what I felt! I went for the mushroom sandwich, the bread was really soft and it was toasted in the right amount. It had an omelette, aragula, tomato along with mozzarella cheese in it and everything was fresh!
